Hey all, as well as the new forum changes, we are considering changing up how Activity Checks are managed here on site. This said, being that it is YOU who runs this place, and we merely organize and keep things chugging, we wanted to put the decision forward to see what style of checks you prefer and would be accommodating to everyone. Please vote above on one of the options listed, or if you have an idea of your own and wish to propose it? Select 'Other' and comment down below with your idea.
Private Activity List/Chart
This is what we are currently doing right now. Every Friday at midnight, I go through all of the week's posts, and mark who has posted and how many times. If someone misses a slot? I mark it in yellow. Too many bad marks or bad habits result in players getting PMed and prodded privately behind the scenes.
This method keeps everything contained and streamlined. Members do not have to look into anything, or manage anything other than making sure they post the required amount every one to two weeks depending on character type. This however means they are left in the dark if something is going wrong, and do not become aware of an issue unless I approach them directly to check in. This said, the lack of transparency means their private real world situations that may impair posting remain just that, private.
The cons to this however, is the fact it is very opaque. Others are not privy to the situations in other's lives, and may grow restless and upset at individuals that seem to be given 'favor' while others are getting warnings, unaware that EVERYONE is getting warnings or pokes at the same time as them. There is room for rumors to get stirred up when someone is riled.
To use this method you compromise keeping your private life private, with the fact other's will remain so as well.
Public Activity List/Chart
This would take our current chart, and publish it for everyone to see and know what is occurring with everyone. It provides ultimate transparency in which there is no hiding from what individuals are doing. However this transparency comes at a cost, and that is the cost of member's feeling their Real Life situations are public and not just between them and the mods.
While veteran members that have shown exceptional activity in the past may receive some leeway, this method would be mostly robotic and go by numbers and what is on the chart to the letter. To not do this, could result in unintentional discrepancies between veteran members being given some more slack, while new members get shived in the kidney. This also is due to the fact you cannot judge others personal plights that stop their ability to RP fairly against one another by ___ getting ___ time, and ___ being given ___.
If implemented, members can only miss a set amount of slots, before they are warned. If they are warned a certain number of times within a set time bracket? They will be asked to drop a character to accommodate their posting frequency.
Public Forum Posts
This takes the chart method up above, and puts the responsibility into the player's hands. You the members will need to track your own threads, and post said threads with a link, and how many times you have posted within the set time bracket of the Activity Check. This check will occur Monthly, or every other month.
This method means that posting activity will be judged not by weekly increments, but my monthly slots. The user can post at their leisure, and have a bit more wiggle room to skip a week if there is an event going on in their personal lives. However, if members are only hammer posting the last day or two before the Activity Check closes? Falling silent the rest of the time?... -smacks at wrist-
As with the other public option, everything would be judged robotically and with numbers. Situations that halt posting from users would be posted publicly as to not create the appearance of favoritism.
Plugin Mod
When researching Plugin's for the new site, I stumbled across one that is excessively cruel and brutal in the most fucked up way possible. I didn't apply it because I expected it to cause riots, and I 100% expect you all to go 'OH HELL NO' right now down below with the same thought I had. But what kind of horrible Mod would I be if I didn’t send you into a panic by having this as an option? ;D
This mod creates a bar underneath your character Avatar on every post you make, and has a slider that goes from red to green. Mods set what they consider to be 'active' for your character, and if you cannot meet said criteria your personal slider slowly and sadly starts to drop towards the red zone. It is all automatic, all out of the mod's hands, and all visible for everyone to see.
Cruel.
Activity Checks we will not be considering.
Role Call
Despite this being excessively popular on RP Directory debates on the subject, it does not work for our site.
For those who do not know, a Role Call Activity Check is when monthly or every other month, people post in the Activity check to say they are 'here'. There is no official thread counting, and members are expected only to make themselves known like role call in school. If they do not appear, to at least make this post, they are warned. If they miss two Roll Calls, they are moved to archives.
