-CHARACTER INFO-
Name: Downfall
Age: mid/late 40
Gender: Mech (male)
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: Ammunition Specialist turned Explosive Ordnance Disposal mech, specialized in detecting, disarming and disposing unsafe explosives of all kinds. (EOD)
Occupation/Specialization: Bodyguard and Decepticon Aerial Frontliner, specialized in delaying and preventing enemy forces and supplies from reaching the battlefront. (Interdictor/Strike)
Appearance:
Physical built: Downfall is a large individual and stands a head taller than Shockwave. While large and bulky in design, he still tends to stand tall and proud. Multiple layers of metal and armor are overlapping each other to create a sort of 'onion-look', giving him the appearance of a well protected bodyguard in sleek riot armor. Downfall is, due to this massive amount of armor, everything but a lightweight. His chassis has more bulk to it than other parts of his frame, due to the jets cockpit being located there. He has overall sturdy limbs attached to his frame in order to support his mass and weight; from muscular arms that are covert with the same amount of overlapping metal plating, up to sturdy broad legs to balance his movements. His five digit clawed servos are formed proportional even, sharp and with a thin pointed tip at the end. His four wings are clipped and separated close to his back in order to prevent any collision with another object. They're folded upside down in a double 'V' shape and carry two explosive weapons on either side, visible attached at the underside of the airfoil structure. In between those aerial appendages nestles the main engine that powers his flight capability in vehicle-mode, attached at his back. Another apparent detail are his shoulders, or more the kibble located behind them, wide and large, they form the wind-tunnels of said jet, and also function as a cooling system, similar to that of vents.
Overall, Downfall sports a simple mossy/dark olive green paint job that has already began to fade into a gunmetal gray color on some portion of his frame. With little detail or fancy accessorizes he isn't the mech who takes great care in appearance. The Decepticon insignia is visible printed on the underside of his two main wings, which he wears proudly in a dark black.
Facial features: Well protected and with no fancy attachments, his face is simple and otherwise very plain. The most notable feature of his overall helm design would be the 'visor-like' metal bandage covering his upper front face. While it only aids him in a cosmetic way, it shields most of his face in a non-transparent manner and leaves him with a facial expression similar to that of an emotionless puppet. However, underneath said bandage lay two dark and deep black holes, molded together in an attempt to seal an injury away.
His chevron-like crest is attached at an angle to the front of his helm while supporting a single band of metal running from his forehead; all the way down over his helm to end at his upper neck, marked with a black and silly painted 'X' at the front. The sides of his face are made out of large circular vents, running along a thin metal cover that folds upwards over his helm.
Altmode:
Due to an injury, Downfall is not capable of simply scanning a new alt-mode and therefor sticks to his original design; a Cybertronian jet.
This vehicle is rather streamlined, with notable accents and bits of alien technology attached to it. While similar to a Panavia Tornado IDS in form and shape, it is still far from being recognizable as one of earthen aircraft designs. It is painted in a dull and mossy green and has little to no distinguishable color patterns, and only varies in its color placements; from one shade of said green to another, darker shade of said green. Downfall may appear boring and even dull when transformed into his alt-mode and can only make up for it with his sleek and individual form, at least on earth.
The jet itself has four pair of wings, two on either side and is therefor a 'four-winged' aircraft. One pair of said wings are the main stabilizer for his alt-mode; long, large and with a curved design. They aid him in his flight coordination. While the other smaller two are located just slightly behind the former are to stabilize his flight patterns. They are designed to be 'Variable-sweep-winged', meaning he's able to manipulate the position of his wings in order to allow him to select the correct wing configuration during flight.
History:
Downfall was constructed and brought online during the golden age, to a time where the Space-bridge project was in full swing. He received his programming shortly after and was quickly introduced to his new job as an ammunition specialist by his cohort unit.
He learned quickly and worked swiftly, but professional; helping with minor tasks such as maintaining equipment, aiding individuals with weapon organization and the categorizing of various chemical substances in an ammunition storage facility.
During this time, Cybertronian society was led by glory and newfound opportunities, the High Council, established by Sentinel Zeta Prime took full charge of the construction and development regarding their Spaceport. It was a shining era, at least for Downfall. He took great interest in his new life and found himself awed by their technology, wanting to be part of it. It was this dedication what led him to delve into the arts of highly explosive weaponry then, focusing on this kind of ammunition expertly. He then applied for a job as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal mech in the same region, wanting to help and assist their society by keeping them safe from terrorism while sharing his knowledge.
The training and education was hard and demanding, but once fully integrated, he became one of the best in this particular area. This dedication earned him an extra, private, educational upswing in that matter and over time, Downfall played a vital role in dangerous situations that required dedication, attention to detail and the ability to function under pressure. He supported the company in many ways now; from utilizing equipment and robotic systems, up to neutralizing hazardous explosives and chemicals that could occur during the development of new weaponry, but not limited to that alone as the demand to analyze unknown munition and explosives for intelligence agencies grew steadily.
He enjoyed his life and took full advantage of it! Until an unfortunate event changed it forever.
It was in the waning days of the golden age, where a new system was introduced to their society, the Caste System. And while Downfall paid little to no attention to it and accepted it as what it was, it was a system he never could find himself to like. With new implied rules and a new economical structure that lead Cybertrons society into this new era, he quickly had to follow while his life turned into a dull and repetitive environment; the shining architecture lost, the happiness of people masked and their government fake. This overall new life-style weighed heavy on Downfall's shoulders. His work now was everything but pleasant, nor was it anymore interesting. Yet, he spent a good amount of time working for this particular muted company, accepting their rules and new orders given to him with silent skepticism.
But when fate chose its victims, he was unfortunate enough to experience it first hand as an ordinary routine check ended in the complete destruction of the company. An explosion set off a chain reaction within the chemical storage facility and took him and everything, and everyone else with it.
While he survived the 'incident', the destruction caused to his frame and furthermore neural net was catastrophic. The little paychecks could only cover so much for the operations and surgeries needed to fix his frame and retouch any outward taken damage to him. But in the end, he could not afford the treatment that was needed to repair him fully; his vision was lost, the damage caused to his neural net and sensory components by toxic and radioactive substances was beyond affordable repair.
Now fully blind and with no where to go, he lost his value to their society and soon fled into the catacombs of a rotten city, struggling to survive by pleading and begging for any job available. Until he met a low-ranking group of Cybertronians, homeless and broken just like him. They introduced him to their idealism of a changing world, fanatics who thrived for change and followed a gladiatorial warrior named Megatronus. With no choice other than to follow their code in order to survive, Downfall accompanied his new friends and supported them in their rebellion, quickly earning their favors by becoming their personal bodyguard.
Brainwashed over time, Downfall became a fanatic himself, truly believing in any word that they spread. And when the towers finally fell and the Decepticons official became a faction, he followed his friends and joined them in their destructive manners, trying to accompany their idealism by any means necessary. But due to his disability he soon was shunned and declared cannon-fodder, being send to the front lines in the process. Yet he fought with the same dedication he had in the past and demonstrated enough loyalty to establish a position among the battlefields, quickly learning how to make himself useful. While this was not always easy, he succeeded with this task and dedicated his life fully to their cause by doing any work possible.
When actions spread through rumors and reached high command, he was offered rehabilitation in exchange for his service to a private yet small operation base located in enemy territory. Downfall accepted this offer and was quickly introduced to a medic which was responsible for an all promising 'curing' operation. He became a guinea-pig for unauthorized 'operations' then, and while this particular medic wasn't skilled, nor qualified enough to fulfill such a task, it still granted him a whole new technological advantage over their enemies. An alternative option for his optics was then integrated into his frame and connected to his visual-feedback mechanism, a so called SONAR-system.
With this new possibility to locate and detect those targets he despised, he grew agitated towards their steadily increasing threat, wanting to put it down once and for all. He pleaded and begged his superior to participate actively in their war as he felt stronger and more confident with this new opportunity they'd granted him. And as orders were given? Downfall obeyed and took full rage upon their enemy in order to please his commanding officer. Battle after battle was won, and lost, and over time he learned how to operate and exploit this new technology to call it his own.
But as soon as their home began to die, they abandoned it. Ship after ship fled the surface of Cybertron as it went dark, but their war still continued on other far away planets. Downfall followed his commanding officer and superior to seek new opportunities across the galaxy, hoping to turn favors into Decepticon hands while doing so. This work was hard and not always easy, yet, after enough time was spent on this quest, the Decepticon forces grew stronger and fortified their position in this war.
And then, orders were given to investigate a strange signal somewhere across the galaxy...
Personality:
Downfall is a strong individual with an undying loyalty towards the Decepticon cause. Calm, Cooperative and Respectful would be the best words to describe him in a positive way. He is not a mech of many words, yet makes up for it with his patience made from steel. He is a great listener and enjoys to support his comrades and partners whenever the situation calls for it. A team player, and a hardworking individual who has been through a lot, though, does not complain about any hard work or job given to him. He lives to serve, and will do anything in order to please his commanding officers. While he tends to be slow and apathetic, he still has a great sense for humor. Smiling on the other hand is a rarity, but despite this lack of emotional display Downfall is a very dedicated mech who only wishes to fortify and spread the will of the Decepticon cause throughout the world(s).
But while he seems to be a courteous and friendly individual, he has a dark side as well. He is a hardcore fanatic with strong religious believes as he sees the Decepticons as one of Primus' own will and prophecy. His wish to 'enlighten' his fellow teammates can take on rather 'dark' sides while trying to preach, and deliver this sermon in 'unnatural ways'. This believe borders on pure obsession as Downfall has seen and experienced a lot of things, and can appear moody and grim from time to time, especially when reminded of his own past.
Likes:
Companionship: While he doesn't mind to be alone at times, he prefers to stay close to his teammates or partners in case of an emergency. He always had worked within a team, and therefor is used to team-play rather than solo work.
Listening: Downfall prefers to take part in a conversation in a more... passive way; lending anyone an audio-receptor who wants to vent off some steam. Just listening to other talk and enjoy their stories is something he finds rather relaxing.
Flying: Free like a bird and loud like a jet, literally. Like most other fliers he likes to soar through the sky, enjoying the wind underneath his wings and the chill air upon his frame. Unless it's raining, in that case he doesn't mind to stay indoors for a day or two.
Working: As long as it serves the Decepticon cause, Downfall will take any job available to him.
Explosives: Sadly this profession lays in the past, and sadly, would stay there for a long time. But he still enjoys to educate himself in the arts of new developed ammunition and takes great pleasure in hearing 'the big bang' when unleashed onto their enemies.
Dislikes:
Cramped Spaces: Downfall gets uncomfortable when stuffed into tight or crowded areas. He is a large individual and therefor needs enough space to navigate his heavy frame around, preferable without having his wings slammed into an elevator door or the like.
Digital Media: No comment here!
Hustle and Bustle: 'The strength is to be found in serenity'. And this he takes literally and to the word. He is everything but a fast moving individual and will take his time to do his job properly.
Being Interrupted: He doesn't talk much, but when he does, he expect others to listen and pay attention to what he wants, and has to say. Nothing gets him more annoyed than being interrupted mid-sentence.
Birds: Those tiny little pests… they get... everywhere!
Strength/Weapons:
Maverick Missiles: Equipped with two of those air-to-surface missiles, Downfall is designed for close air support. While those missiles are unable to lock onto moving targets on their own and require more accuracy than Downfall would like, they are straight forward and will hit a stationary target easily. Constructed for destruction, those missiles are considered everything but a nice firework to look at, and while their radius of detonation isn't very far nor wide, they can pack quite a punch. Anything with less armor would be best advised to seek cover once this missile finds its target.
Paveway Explosives: Two of those laser-guided bombs are attached to either side of his wings and are fairly exposed in both, robot- and vehicle mode. While it is only the latter where Downfall is capable of using those two devices, their enormous mass is something to admire. Filled with a good amount of reactive substances and other chemical resources, they tend to form an unstable mix that detonates by impact or sudden release of said energy. Particular designed to leave their enemy in fear, those explosives do not choose sides and will engulf and tear apart anything within range. Their power is far greater than the Maverick Missiles, used for larger targets such as certain portions of an outpost, or convoy, up to specific parts of a base. They can remodel nearly any surface and terra-form it into an apocalyptic wasteland, so to speak. A point blank detonation could probably even destroy the sturdiest of tanks.
However, Downfall is very picky when it comes to this sort of weaponry. He prefers to stick to less expensive methods as the construction and amount of materials used to built them are hard to find (if even). He considers those two devices a sort of 'last resort' option and will think twice before deploying or dropping them on something, or someone not worth the effort and time he would have to spent on them. After all, resources are expensive and time is something they don't have!
Energon Blasters: Two of those standard Blasters are built into his arms. Those blasters serve him well in battle as they don't require as much accuracy as a sniper and therefor can be fired at anything that can be marked as a target. They have a constant and steady flow of fire, not rapidly fast, but strong enough to pierce through light and less armored components. Useful for keeping the enemy occupied and distracted, but not efficient enough to damage someone with a sturdier built. However, a shot to the face could still be painful.
Heavy Hitter: While Downfall isn't a trained soldier, he has the necessary power to land quite a punch. With large fists made to dent even larger individuals to scrap, the big flier doesn't hesitate to make use of them. He is strong, and certainly will proof it to those who choose to get too close. Yet, with little experience in combat, he is more of a 'whack a mole' type of fighter, throwing random punches at the enemy while hoping to hit his target.
Flying Tank: Thanks to his former job as an Explosive Ordnance Disposal mech, he has been gifted with a frame that can withstand even a more severe explosion. Thick armor is covering his whole frame, protecting his vital components and mechanical structure in case of an attack. With multiple layers of metal coating his chassis, up to broad sturdy limbs attached to it, Downfall is a hard nut to crack. Someone with less firepower or strength would be advised to think twice before launching themselves at this flying tank.
Weakness:
Once upon a Time...: Downfall enjoys stories and is drawn to any of them. Good ending or bad ending? Doesn't matter! But as soon as it starts? He can't keep himself from listening to them. Downfall gets very distracted once someone starts a good story, leaving him focused on that particular bit until the end. Not all too often is it this what keeps him from doing his job (or work), causing him to miss his deadlines way too often than he actually should.
Gas Guzzler: A heavy frame needs a good amount of fuel. As much as size is an advantage on the battlefield, it also is a disadvantage at the same time. Ever so often burning through his own energon reserves during a fight, or even mandatory work, Downfall needs to re-fuel more often than the average Cybertronian. This immense consumption of fuel can lead to overall fast exhaustion as he is not built to withstand a longer period of time without energon.
Autobot or Decepticon?: Telling friend and foe apart is sometimes a real challenge, especially in heated combat situations where individuals tend to 'mix' together. But as much as his lack of vision annoys him at times, it is not a real disability and only limits him to visual feedback; being unable to distinguish colors or video footage, written reports, pictures such as a projection of a diagram or... for his dismay, a faction insignia/symbol.
Limited Ammo: Downfall has only so much artillery; two main explosives and two smaller missiles. Once this capacity is used, he has to relay on his energon blaster or fists. Both of this options, however, are only accessible in his root-mode, forcing him to seek ground and loosing air-superiority while doing so.
Slow and Steady: Due to his mass and overall size, he is nearly an immobile object once on the ground. Heavy and slow moving limbs are causing Downfall to be everything but fast, chasing down his enemies on foot is an exercise he would rather like to avoid. Not all too often is this accompanied by uneven terrain, muddy or slippery ground can also cause him to loose his balance, or even let him sink a few inches into the soft surface.
Special Skills:
KaBoom!: There is more to defusing a highly explosive device than just cutting off a red wire. The big flier was originally designed to work and disarm and dispose unsafe explosives and therefor contains a vast amount of inside-knowledge regarding the topic. From defusing explosives, up to fully constructing said devices from scratch, Downfall has the 'Know-How' and is willed to take this skill to the next level when given the opportunity.
To Infinity and Beyond: He is, thanks to his well armored built, able to travel through the vast universe by sheer power alone. Yet, this feature comes with a limitation; as a mech who can consume more energon than a space-shuttle, Downfall is limited to a shorter travel distance than other space capability fliers. While hopping from planet to planet, and using free space travel opportunities to close larger gaps, he is still able to withstand the cold and harsh environment of space.
Extra Info:
SONAR: Known as 'Sound Navigation and Ranging' is a technique used by Downfall to navigate and detect objects by actively creating sounds.
While this particular technology can often be found in submarines, it provides him with the ability to virtually 'see' and navigate through the world. It functions similar to that what is known as 'Echolocation'; sending a signal (or sound) to scan the environment and than listen to the echoes that return from various objects. This allows him to identify and locate said objects and other individuals within range while forming a 3-dimensional image/map of his surroundings while using this sort of technology.
Voice: Downfall has a deep and husky voice with a heavy Russian accent.
Sample RP:
Silence!
It was the most pleasurable sound made by those who faded into the dark abyss. A sound which should cause him to feel happiness, joy and overall should make him proud. But, it did not. Instead it caused him pain, and a flicker of anxiety snaked over his frame as silence set into motion. It wrapped around his frame like a black blanket and pulled at his inner Spark, calling out with a tranquilizing voice.
But there was no sound in the dark, and no light to be seen in the distance. Space was cold and brutal. It was a harsh environment with no mercy for those who traveled through the great nothingness.
Just like Cybertron, everything was dark! The reminder of their home only flashed momentarily onto his mind while mulling over his predicament. It had been way too long since they had lost their home. Yet, with new hope sparking through the universe, there was this sort of light what seemed to bloom from their actions. The shock waves roared out like thundering tsunamis at this thought, merciless colliding with the quiet environment as his engine began to fight against the immersive stillness around him. He did not know if it was his hope what kept him going, but he knew that death was tailgating him nonetheless.
Downfall was exhausted and tired, but this mission entrusted to him was important. A simple mission, one he had done many times before, and succeeded as many times as he had done them. But the fact that he was lost was an alarming realization altogether, and while he could withstand the cold grip of death that plunged at him for the time being, he knew that he would not be able to outrun it for much longer.
A short tremor vibrated through his frame, and the call was made then. A signal send into the vast universe in hope to reach its destination point. The S.O.S message was short but straight to the point, containing important information such as his designation, faction and current location with the immediate request for assistance.
Yet he had to keep going, pushing through the vacuum while listening to any incoming signal. When there was something he was good at, than it was listening. The silence slowly faded into the background and his mind focused around any sound that may would reach his audials, trying to filter through the echos that rumbled in his processor.
With just a tiny bit of hope, this call may be heard.
