Standing behind Optimus, Ratchet watched the Prime’s back, occasionally still watching the looping video. He remained silent, not wanting to interrupt Optimus at this critical moment. Ratchet knew the stress Optimus was under, and how this had added to it.
When the leader of the Autobots turned and gave him a command, Ratchet nodded, and turned on a ped, moving quickly back towards the medibay. He was trying to think of what he was going to need – what he expected to find, and what might take him by surprise.
Normally, he carried his tools on his person – various welders and scanners built into his hands and arms, and anything else was carried in his oversized backpack on his back.
This would take more, though. He needed to pack more than normal here. Taking out a battered, bright red container from a lower cupboard, he opened it and started adding to the supplies already inside.
He’d need a grinder to remove the glass and any damage it could have done underneath. What he knew of the melting point of sand left him with a worry about internal damage. Medical patches and absorbent pads, clamps to close off any bleeding lines.
Additional tools were carefully removed from the walls and cupboards, and placed inside.
For the T cog that had been exposed, there wasn’t a lot that could be done. Ratchet packed a small kit containing fine filaments of wire and thin patches. If the delicate cog hadn’t been too damaged, the filaments might be able to carry electricity.
Activating it now before a full exam would be dangerous – the medic hoped Windshield remained resting.
Pausing to look around the medibay one last time, trying to decide if he needed anything else, Ratchet hoped he had enough. A glance to Bumblebee and Sideswipe, he pushed away the guilty feeling that swept over him. He turned, and walked back out through the doors, to stand at the Prime’s side.
“Ready when you are, Optimus,” he said quietly, and nothing else, waiting.
