Week Three, Day Four
4pm
Raf was waiting in front of the Medibay glass doors. A small human child, dwarfed by the area around him – furniture too large to use, computer monitors larger than the walls in his house, computer keyboards too large for him to use easily. He stood in the Control Room, a tiny shadow cast beside him by the fluorescent lighting that lined the ceiling so far above.
At the moment, the Control Room seemed empty. No one was around. Oddly abandoned, the main monitor – still showing signs of the attempts to patch it up, was quietly beeping to itself. The crack running down the middle of the screen was still there, but the frame of the screen had been repaired and at least it stood straight.
Peering back towards the room, looking for anyone who may be entering, Raf pushed his oversized glasses up on his face.
Raf guessed it was maybe between shifts. Maybe that was why no one was in the control room. But there would be someone there soon – Bulkhead, maybe, or Arcee, or one of the newer Autobots that had shown up. Which meant he only had a few minutes to work.
Raf was trying to get into the Medibay.
The main problem was the door.
A recent upgrade to the Medibay, the door now slid open and closed as needed, and could be locked completely in the event of what Ratchet had called a “medical emergency”. Protecting injured bots inside, or keeping them in and protecting those outside. Normally, the Medibay doors were left open, a sign that any Autobot could come in and seek help if needed, or seek out Ratchet as well. Raf, Miko and Jack never had trouble going into the Medibay before, although they were always watched over carefully by Optimus or Ratchet, as the Medibay had a lot of things that could be dangerous to humans.
Raf thought the doors were a good idea, but right now it was causing him trouble.
He wasn’t heavy, nor tall enough, to activate it.
The motion sensor was way far over his head, and even by jumping up and down, he couldn’t trigger the weight pad enough to get the door to open. He had tried seeing if he could hack the sensor, but of course the sensor wasn’t hackable – it didn’t have wifi or anything else to hack.
Blowing out air in exasperation, he stood, hands on hips, looking up at the offending glass door.
Raf stepped forward, and lightly put his hands on the glass door, palms flat against the surface. He pressed his face to the glass, nose squished up, looking around as much as he could see. Peering inside he could just make out where he thought Bumblebee was being held – back behind a blue curtain. At least that’s where he assumed Bumblebee was....he couldn’t see him anywhere else in the Medibay, not from where he was standing.
Raf sighed, momentarily fogging up the glass.
No one would talk to him about Bumblebee, not really. When he asked if he was ok, everyone kept telling him Bee was fine, he’d be just fine. Everything was ok, he was just resting, he was healing, he was....fine.
But Raf knew he wasn’t fine. Something very bad had happened, and Bee was unconscious. Optimus was hurt, the Omega Base had been shot up. Bee had lost his arm....Raf had seen it lying on the floor right after the fight.
There had been so much energon spilled on the floor...
Bulkhead....everyone just kept smiling and saying he’d be ok, but...their smiles didn’t seem real. They never reached their eyes, were people really smiled. Optimus was too busy...and too hurt, for Raf to bother him, but he knew Optimus wouldn’t say anything either. Optimus was worse than the others, usually, when it came to trying to keep things from the children. And Ratchet just kept trying to distract Raf by asking for his help translating things from human to Cybertronian and vice versa. But the things he was translating was pointless and unimportant. Like translating a cooking recipe from English to French and back.
Raf was getting scared.
Why wasn’t Bee getting up? Why wouldn’t they talk to him, tell him what was going on? What had happened to Bee?
One way or another, Raf was getting into the Medibay, and seeing Bee.
