“More for me then,” the Old Warrior said, with a soft smile.
“An Honor and well met, Pyro, of Helex. I'm Kup, of Tesarus,” Kup said, in response to Pyro's greeting. "My Warranty Card Expired several Mega-Cycles or a Lightyear Ago. I should look into getting that Renewed at some point,"
“A Wrecker? Those are some nice Mechs. I tried to go for it myself back in the Early Cycles, but I was either too nutty for them or they were going to the nearest Soda Shop for some Nutty Bars or to McAdam's House of Oil. Wait,...they didn't have Soda Shops on Cybertron,” he began, realizing he'd been about to go on an odd rant.
“Forgive the tangents. It comes with Age,” he'd say, taking a seat in a vacant chair near Pyro. “You mentioned a Mind Bomb? When did you see a Mind Bomb in action? I don't mean to doubt it, but what would they have to gain from it? Bumblebee's a Scout. They might be able to get some recommendations on his favorite video games, but I doubt they'd be able to gain anything of what they deem as valuable,”
Pyro had to admit he found it kind of unnecessary for a proper greeting from the old mech since the younger already established he knew who he was. Ah, well. Pleasantries, and all that. Though Pyro did give a slight chuckle about Kup's expired I.D. card (as the Wrecker remembered they were called). Then came another tangent, though this one did at least end on a funny note. Earned a corpse chuckle that one. Though the Wrecker did have this comment "Pretty sure its 'Maccadam's Old Oil House.'" Pyro also gave a "It's okay." towards Kup's apology. Then the subject turned back to the Mind Bomb, or at least weapons similar to it. "Yeah, I pretty much came to 'this can't be it,' same as you. If the 'Cons had this for some time, why use it now and risk breaking the truce, especially when MECH is still in operation and both sides need all the help they can get to try and take them down." Pyro explained to Kup is own line of thought. "Also, I was thinking 'mind-affecting' in the sense of creating artificial stimuli or emotions to undermine and try to kill us from the inside. Though like I said, the timing is what makes this unlikely."
“Maccdam's Old Oil House? That does sound familiar,” Kup said.
“The Cons are a sneaky bunch. As the Humans would say, they would sell their own Mothers if it could give them an advantage,” the Older Mech said. “I'm sure the Truce will play its part, but don't ask me about it. I wouldn't know. The Decepticons will always try to find a means to gain an advantage, and it wouldn't surprise me if they somehow managed some advantage. As for M.E.C.H., ...I'd rather the Decepticons deal with them. At least, we'd simply have to watch who the winner was,”
“Mind-Affecting? You might be right. If the Cons had designed this to do that, their aim wouldn't have been to cause the rest of us to act out of character. It would have been the one closest to Optimus Prime, but that's only an Old Mech speculating," he'd say, taking a few puffs from the Ci-Gar.
The notion one of their own had been subject to an unknown virus, or a mind bomb or a squid bomb had been concerning...hm...calamari did sound nice. Shaking his helm, he'd guide his thoughts back to the problem at hand. "If the Cons had designed it with the intent to cripple or decapitate, why would they go for a Scout like Bumblebee? They would know he wouldn't do enough damage, but that might be why they did it. I don't know. I've seen some crazy things in my time, and have done even crazier things. The question we should perhaps ask ourselves is not that the Decepticons created it if they did or even to what aim, but how Bumblebee contracted it,”
Pyro shrugged his shoulders when Kup brought up the valid question, "Why Bumblebee?" "Fair point." While the Wrecker had his doubts about this train of thought from the start, this proves they were not unfounded. The thought did cross him that, Maybe they wanted to infect someone close to Prime. But like Kup said, Bumblebee's a scout for a reason and probably wouldn't do enough damage before being incapacitated. Then came the other good point from the old mech, how was Bumblebee infected in the first place? Pyro gave an acknolwedging "Hmmm.", and turned to his thoughts to come up with something, but ultimately had nothing. In the end, whatever this thing was is nothing Pyro had encountered before, and thus had nothing to base this off of. Best he got was syringe injection by the 'Cons, catching 'Bee unawares by knocking him out, but again, that assumes the 'Cons had anything to do with. Pyro pressed his fingers to his forehead in frustration.
“Other than this business about a Disease, what else seems to be bothering you?” Kup asked, taking a puff off of his Ci-Gar.
“You can't bog yourself down creating scenarios, contemplating the angles, or figuring out why the Cons did it other than the fact they did do it. It's not a matter of if they'll do it again, but what else they have in store. It's why the Cons are so tense,” he'd say, taking another puff of the Ci-Gar. He had to admit, out of all of his remaining vices the Ci-Gars had to be the one he truly liked.
It hadn't hurt that he'd never really had many vices to begin with, and those that had remained other than the Ci-Gars had either been pushed to the side due to a lack of time or simply ignored for a lack of imagination.
“They're too busy focusing on ways to make us feel bad, to decimate our ranks or to eliminate us entirely to re-create Cybertron or this Planet in their own image of Utopia -- which by the way they're too busy bickering amongst themselves to pick one,” the Old Mech said.
“Those mechs can't relax. They don't know how to in their drive to eliminate us, but in attempting to eliminate us they won't have anyone to fight with. Their entire purpose of starting this War would end, and soldiers trained to fight in a war or gladiators trained to fight in a pit for the entertainment of spectators are useless without a War. Who would they fight? This Disease that Bumblebee has contracted is only proof they haven't or rather can't recognize their purpose will come to an end,” he'd say. He began exhaling the steam he'd inhaled from the Ci-Gar, and made certain to avoid blowing the steam in Pyro's faceplate.
Pyro pirked up at Kup's next question, one. Though, unsurprisingly, this led into another speech by the old mech. Although one part of it did leave Pyro with a question. What were the Decepticons to do if they win the war? A good portion of their troops have known combat all their lives, and in this hypothetical scenario, how were they supposed to adjust to peacetime? A lifetime spanning activity doesn't (probably wouldn't) go away easily. Would the 'Cons turn on themselves? Will seek out other societies and/or people to fight? Makes one think. But, in the end, Pyro had to agree with Kup's sentiment to stop dwelling on possibility, uncertainty., and hypotheticals. And all this speculation certainly qualifies. Time would be better spent focusing on the present. But in any case, Pyro finally had his say.
"Sorry, Kup. It's just that.. well" Pyro paused briefly to articulate his words. "Optimus Prime is my hero. He ended up saving me when the rest of my squad died fighting during the Simanzi Massacre. He's supposed to be the strongest and most righteous Autobot of us all." Pyro was briefly elated expressing how he saw Prime, but dropped to a more somber tone after that last sentence. "And to see how he isn't safe in his own base anymore, because of one his most trusted comrades no less, it's just.." Another pause before another sigh. "I don't know..." That's the thing with people like Pyro. They're so wrapped up in the legend their heroes have built, they sometimes don't realize that they can just as fallible and vulnerable as anyone else.
“Lad, you believe in Optimus Prime. You don't have to justify it. He rescued you during the Simanzi Massacre, and you have the utmost trust in him. You respect him. I won't argue against that. We all have to have someone we admire, and respect,” Kup said. He thought about his next words carefully, but at the same time thought back on every Cybertronian he'd encountered, to every Prime through Zeta and Sentinel to Optimus Prime that he'd encountered in his operational life.
“Heroes are not infallible, and it's what attracts the admiration towards them. You've learned a harsh lesson, Pyro. You've witnessed your Hero as being someone that isn't infallible, and isn't above it all. Optimus Prime is a mech that doesn't fully understand the responsibility that has been thrust on him. I'm saying that from how those in a position to do what must be asked of them have a hard time understanding exactly what that means,” the Old Mech explained.
“He's learning, and even he doesn't realize that the scrutiny and the pressure he believes he's under -- that weigh down his shoulders -- actually doesn't exist, the Tesaran continued, before taking a puff on the Ci-Gar. "The best thing you can do is to keep seeing him as your Hero. It doesn't matter if the Hero or Role Model or whomever you look up to may not be infallible, but that you look up to them and you respect them. He's led you to a renewed purpose, but it's a purpose you held within your frame. Heroes and Role Models are kind of funny that way. It's not that they demand respect, but that we give them respect for showing us how what that purpose is,”
“I know it hurts that you have seen him with your own optics to be capable of being vulnerable, in being affected by all too recent events. It's natural to feel that way, but I wouldn't let it get you down. You've learned to carry yourself by standing a bit taller, and he's given you confidence. It's you whom Honors him, Lad. It's not the other way around,” Kup finally said.
This speech from Kup was something Pyro needed to hear. Everyword spoken by the old mech had managed to click with the Wrecker, even the ones about infallibility, for there was one conclusion that Pyro managed to come to in light of this speech. For you see, in spite of this one incident, Optimus Prime was still the good, honest, battle-hardened, and wise leader that the Wrecker (and no doubt many others) still cherished in their sparks as a hero. While this whole Bumblebee thing was still the world-shaker for Pyro as he made it out to be, he had to admit that this speech from Kup did manage to lighten his spirits. And with that there was sincere thing to say to Kup after a moment to take this speech in. "You know what, Kup? You're right. Thank you."
“Sometimes, we all need to hear what needs to be said. We've fallen from what we were, and we've found ourselves in dire straights. We've had a few decisions set before us, with one of those being to go to War and another to leave Cybertron until it can heal,” the Old Mech said. Taking a puff of the Ci-Gar, he'd exhaled slowly savoring it and pondering his next words.
“There will be more hard decisions to be made, and there isn't any doubt in my helm that we won't like it when we're forced to make them,” the Tesaran said. He'd shifted a little in the seat. “We're short of Heroes, and those we can look up to in this Cycle. It's where we found ourselves, and sometimes as I said earlier we need to be told what we need to hear. I respect you, Lad. I respect that you respect and Honor Optimus Prime. I know he hasn't turned out to be like Sentinel, and I'm glad he hasn't. I only hope he doesn't turn out like Zeta. Zeta was a crazed Prime. I don't what happened to Zeta or to Sentinel to happen to Optimus, and that's where you come in,”
“I hope you don't mind this, and I don't think you will mind it. You need to be there for him. You need to help him. Ratchet is there to be an adviser, and an old friend. You don't have to act differently, and you don't have to go out of your way to do something you normally wouldn't. I wouldn't know what to do if you, or any other Mech or Femme took my words seriously and decided to follow a younger me into doing something we'd both regret,” he'd say.
“I'm glad I could have told you what you needed to hear,” Kup said.
