<PLAYER INFO>
Name/Alias: Ian
<CHARACTER INFO>
Name: Neon
Age: Late Teens
Gender: Mech
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobots
Original Occupation: Protége to Directa of Iacon
Occupation/Specialization: Scientist (Technical Engineer)
Appearance:
General: Neon is a medium-sized mech. He is about as tall as a Vehicon and his proportions are roughly similar to Ratchet. Covered in medium armor, the Scientist’s body is composed of soft, rounded shapes. His shoulders are encased in smooth plates, socketed with tail lights from the front. Meanwhile, the wheels from his altmode can be found lodged in his shoulder pads and bulky forearms from the sides. Neon’s color scheme is comprised of black, magenta, and light blue. Black is the primary color, while magenta and blue serve as accents.
Features: Neon’s physiognomy is smooth and friendly. He usually keeps to a shy smile or a neutral expression, accentuated by his big blue optics and thick eyebrows. There is a pair of antennae sticking from his audio receptors, sweeping backward. They’re affected by emotion, rising when excited or scared, and drooping down when dejected or sad.
Altmode: A Black Toyota Corolla with light magenta rims and a single light blue stripe going down the center of the car.
Pertinent History:
Neon is a last-sparked Cybertronian. Very early into his life, he has been taken under the wing of a scientist named Directa, who resided in seclusion far away from the frontlines. She was an elusive presence among the Autobots. A staunch pacifist, she wanted to impart her knowledge onto somebody who wasn’t spoiled by the war. After subjecting a chosen few bots to rigorous testing, she picked Neon to carry on her legacy.
While the Great War raged on in the distance, Neon learned the sciences of Cybertron with Directa’s steady hand to guide him. A stern yet kind-hearted femme, she imprinted onto Neon not only theories and algorithms but also her wisdom and morals. In so doing, she shaped him into a valued scientist, not unlike those who had lived during the Golden Age and died in the war.
But like them, not even Directa and Neon could avoid the Decepticon’s march forever. As the Autobots were pushed back further and further, the two scientists eventually found themselves under siege in Directa’s tower at the outskirts of Iacon. She urged Neon to run and to rejoin the main Autobot forces, while she gave her life in defense of their home, burying the Decepticon forces and the research they coveted with her.
Lost and confused, Neon ran away from the encroaching armies. He rarely ever set foot outside of the spires, and now he had to navigate through a city descending into chaos. In spite of his misfortune, he managed to group up with a platoon of Autobots ready to evacuate Cybertron. For a mercy, they agreed to let Neon come with them.
However, Neon did not feel at home on a ship full of battle-hardened veterans. Although he was on good terms with them, he always longed for solid ground under his feet for as long as they cruised the stars together. And eventually, one day, they parted ways. Thus did they leave Neon on a lonesome shadow port in the deep reaches of cosmos, far away from the stars burning yet with the flames of war.
And then...the message arrived.
Personality:
Diplomat: Neon is timid and nonconfrontational. He’d rather solve conflicts with words than guns and swords. Adverse to violence and frowning upon the brutal ways of the Decepticons, it is a wonder he has managed to maintain his views throughout life’s many tragedies.
Quiet: Being somewhat introverted, he doesn’t talk much and likes to keep to himself. But in spite of his skittish nature, Neon can show unexpected courage and resolve in times of great need.
Defender: Though he isn’t a warrior in nature, he is a mediator and a protector in that respective order. When reason fails, and all other options are exhausted, he will fight to his dying breath to defend friends and allies.
Merciful: Should he beat an opponent, he will always choose mercy. He simply isn’t the kind of person to kill anybody; at least not without a very, very, very good reason to. And even then, he would regret it his every waking moment from thereon.
Mourning: Behind Neon’s adorkable mask is a lot of sadness. He grieves the loss of his teacher and looks to the stars, hoping that she is somewhere out there, still alive and well. Yet she never comes, no matter how long Neon holds out hope. He hasn’t quite come to terms with Directa’s departure and it burdens his mind heavily.
Likes: Books, clever thinking, talking things out, quiet, peace, making friends, protecting loved ones, reasonable arguments, solving conflicts peacefully, moral integrity, helping people in need, sharing views with other scientists, being useful to the Autobots.
Dislikes: Brutality, violence, Decepticon mentality, amoral actions in general, disorder, chaos, loud music, parties, flirting, coarse humor, laziness, war, the frontlines, weapons of mass destruction, causing harm unnecessarily, loneliness, invasion of personal space.
Goals: To overcome loss. To save the ones he can, and to fight for those he couldn’t. To prove that he is more than just a naivé, sheltered child. And to help the Autobots while staying true to himself and his ethos.
Strengths - Mental:
Clever: He is an out-the-box thinker, able to come up with solutions to problems rather quickly. Sometimes, he struggles a bit with the execution of his plans, although that doesn’t change the fact his mind is rather sharp. If he has a good team on his side, Neon can fill in the role of a smart guy.
Aware: Hidden behind a ditzy, clueless attitude is a critical thinker aware of patterns. Neon pays more attention to the things around him than he first lets on. While he can't apply these qualities in combat very well, they can still be useful in other ways, complimenting his planning skills.
Empath: Uniquely attuned to EMF wavelengths, Neon has the special gift of heightened empathy, thanks to which he can glean the emotions of those around him much more accurately and across longer distances in comparison to what is normal. Sometimes, he has trouble perceiving deeply-buried feelings, but usually, he can pick up on EMFs better than the average Cybertronian. In terms of distance, this heightened sense translates across roughly two hundred yards.
Strengths - Physical:
Medium Armor: Due to his build, Neon has standard armor for a Cybertronian in wartime conditions. It offers a medium amount of protection from smaller firearms and weaker melee weapons such as plain swords made of a standard alloy. It will do poorly against artillery or powerful arms such as fusion cannons or null-rays.
Medium Speed: As another consequence of his build, Neon can run at speeds expected from a bot sparked during the Great War. He isn’t as fast as the smaller scouts, but he will quite probably outrun his lumbering peers like Bulkhead with relative ease.
Agility: Neon is quite agile and flexible. Even though his build isn’t as streamlined as that of some other Autobots, he isn’t too bad at moving around. It is important to note that despite this, he is unable to make proper use of his agility in combat and it relates more to general movement. Fitting through small spaces, avoiding obstacles, etc.
Weapons:
En-blades: An invention of his own, Neon has special slots located on his forearms that allow him to produce blades of condensed energy. He doesn’t use them very often nor is he too good at it. Even then, they can be quite effective against human metals and alloys. Against their Cybertronian counterparts, they don’t fare as good. While he can cut through light armor without too much effort, the blades are likely to give in to heavy and medium armor unless used in sequence on a given area.
Stun Gun: Neon isn’t in the thick of it very often, however, he has taken to a simple weapon for self-defense should he need it: a taser built into his left arm that fires electric charges, which can cause a variety of effects depending on the setting and distance. At point-blank and the highest setting, it can temporarily paralyze enemies, with the added modifier of their size. The bigger the target, the shorter the paralysis. At medium range, it can disable targetted limbs for a few seconds. It also causes some major discomfort to the affected area, since it overcharges the local neural netting.
The effects of this weapon last anywhere between five to ten seconds depending on the above criteria. It cannot cause permanent damage unless the weapon’s engineering is changed to accommodate a stronger battery. The projectiles of Neon’s Stun Gun are slow-moving and can be dodged, however, he can fire up to five of them in sequence before reloading.
Weaknesses - Mental:
Naive: Neon isn’t properly acquainted with the hard truths of the war he’s been fighting from the back seat of a scientist. On Earth, he will get his first taste of what a real warzone looks like. It will be very difficult for an innocent bot like himself to reconcile his morality with reality.
Inexperienced: Coupled together with his naivéte, Neon also wants for useful knowledge. Unlike many other Autobots serving at Omega Outpost, he does not know some of the survival skills that are necessary for this day and age. His expertise in the area of combat and battle tactics is lacking and no amount of intelligence can compensate for lack of real experience.
Pacifist: In a way, this noble virtue holds Neon back as it does many other Autobots. When a Decepticon defeats somebody, they do not hesitate to make the killing blow. Neon, on the other hand, would rather do anything but. Imprison, release, convince. Anything but kill, even if the enemy “deserves it.” He holds fast onto this principle.
Empath: While it might seem like strong empathy is an exclusively beneficial trait, that is not the case. Neon doesn’t get to choose whose emotions he feels. When he is out in the field, he senses everything in range immediately, even if it comes from the enemy. Skilled manipulators can exploit this to confuse the Autobot, make him slip or hesitate. It isn’t uncommon for Neon to experience sensory overload from all the feedback if there is a lot of people around him and the stakes are high.
Weaknesses - Physical:
Weak Spots: There are a few weak spots scattered across Neon’s frame. His neck area is somewhat exposed, and his elbow and knee joints aren’t well-guarded either. Because he is flexible in the abdomen, he also does not have much of armoring there, leaving him open to a good old gut punch.
Unskilled: Neon is still quite new to physical and ranged combat. His aim isn’t steady, and he doesn’t know the technicalities of hand-to-hand. His natural attributes cannot make up for learned abilities other fighters might possess and Neon woefully lacks. This puts him at a disadvantage when put up against opponents with more battles under their belts.
Special Skills:
Engineering: From Groundbridges to communication relays, Neon knows how to design it, build it, and fix it if necessary. He is not quite the master his teacher was, but even then, he is an exemplary student of this particular scientific discipline and a sought-after company in many Autobot installations. It should be noted, that even though he could, he does not build weapons out of principle. The notable exceptions being his En-blades and stun gun.
Extra Info: Neon’s spark type is Beta positive. He keeps a data slug given to him by Directa. He refuses to watch the recording on it and keeps it as a memento.
