Atracchus wasn’t sure which part unsettled him more. The red-plated mech beside him truly, irrevocably, asserting his position as the Chief Medical Officer of the Decepticon’s flagship by successfully operating on a mech without even seeing what he was doing. The all-too tense moment after the strut fragment was removed where the primary feeder line surged again, even more so than before, to the point where Atracchus was certain that it was going to explode and another life was about to end messily on a medberth, even after everything that had been tried to save hir.
Or, the fact that Knock Out had actually just made a joke to him – not at his expense, not as a cynical remark on the state of all things, as he was so very well known for. It had a…peculiar, way...of diffusing the tension in the room. Yes, that was the word.
<<Y…es, sir.>>
Was he meant to joke back?
<<I certainly did.>>
In some scenarios, neutrality was the best policy.
Fetching equipment – now that was something he knew how to respond to. Atracchus still remembered the location of the right cupboard from his earlier aide shifts. As he fingered through the stocks, looking for the correct equipment, a strange feeling pressed itself against his backstrut: almost like a sensation that wasn’t quite there, and it was noted for its lack. He might be doing a lot more of this in the near future. He still wasn’t quite sure how he felt about it. If every situation was as stressful as the one he’d just been a part of (and that had been a success!) the stress would surely kill him before any misfired weapon, buzzsaw slip or outbreak of disease.
But for now, there was still work to do. Relegating the line of inquiry further down his priority queue, Atracchus returned to Knock Out’s side: tubing in one hand, and connector in the other.
((KO made a joke and Atracchus just dun EVEN XD I'll leave the other bit for now - I say let's ride out the bang, and end on a whimper All good?))
