Name/Alias: CAG
-Character Info-
Name: Kickback
Age (or human equivalent): Mid 30's in maturity.
Gender (or human equivalent): Mech/Male
Species: Cybertronian (Insecticon)
Faction: Decepticons
Original Occupation: Hive Seeder Caste
Occupation/Specialization: Black Operations
Appearance: At least as tall as Shockwave, slightly shorter than Megatron. This doesn't count his wings or antenna, which would make him taller. Mostly black highlighted by neon yellow and violet accents. Athletic build with heavily armored upper body and thick, powerful legs. Narrow waist and hips. Long wings raised up over the shoulders. Strong set of gauntleted arms ending in normal black hands. Possesses a second set of fully insectoid arms ending in sharp claws.
Altmode: Cybertronian Locust/B-2 Stealth Bomber. The locust can slightly alter its shape by extending and flattening its wings, and drawing in its limbs, shifting into a better disguised B-2 form (similar to how Airachnid can shift from Drider to Robot). Both forms are almost entirely black.
History:
Kickback could not tell you exactly when he was sparked as he wasn't sapient at the time; he hatched intelligent but not fully self-aware, a perfectly normal thing for an Insecticon. Memories from the first few instars* of his development are groggy and dreamlike, consisting only of events either traumatizing or ecstatic. What he does remember distinctly, however, is the day when his hive was raided, and he, along with hundreds of other first instar Insecticons, were snatched out of their home, immobilized, and stuffed into cages and transport trucks bound for the surface.
Because of his size, weight and coloration, Kickback was graded for sale in the high-caste exotic pet and slave markets. Purchased by wealthy high-caste denizen of the Towers, Kickback was kept alongside the his Master's sparkling as a family pet. Alongside the sparkling he learned to read, write and communicate in Cybertronian - a fact he kept well hidden, though he would occasionally slip and show hints of a far greater intelligence than a mere pet should have had. Once Kickback "molted" and got bigger, his intelligence only grew - as did his appetite. While the sparkling that had treated him as a friend and playmate enjoyed having a pet that was closer to a younger brother in behavior, Kickback's master was not as comfortable with the Insecticon's size, appetite and worrying intelligence. Against the wishes of his sparkling, the Tower-dweller sold Kickback to a mining facility in Kaon where he would be put to heavy duty physical work and used to produce new Insecticons.
Being a hive seeder was used against him; Kickback saw his larvae taken from him, abused, crushed, killed, treated worse than the garbage they were slopped with. He became vicious and intractable, escaping restraints, biting hive workers, passed from ownership to ownership as a troublemaker, his confinements and beatings growing worse. His hatred for other Cybertronians grew in proportion. From within this extended period of slavery his capacity for strategy, patience and deceiving others as to his true intentions increased. He began to incite other drones to attack workers through his natural ability to control them, and he was soon found escaping his cages using tools somehow stolen from Hive workers. His owner, fed up and worried about the safety of his workers and operations, sold off Kickback to his final destination: A research laboratory in Tarn, where he was slated for vivisectioning and study. Transforming in front of terrified researchers and roaring curses at them in full Cybertronian, Kickback pulled apart his captors, disappearing into the labyrinthine underground beneath the city.
Kickback would later turn up in Kaon, observing the newly forming Decepticon movement and its leadership. The ideas of freedom to choose one's fate resonated soundly with the Insecticon, and he made his presence among the gladiators, miners and low-caste that populated the fomenting rebellion. Though despised by many of the Decepticons as a sub-Cybertronian "scrap-eater", some of the higher ranking planners among their numbers saw the potential of having hordes of Insecticon drones fighting alongside them. Kickback was accepted into their numbers, where he found that his talent for hiding his intellect and true intentions continued to serve him well. He has served the cause faithfully and successfully since then, finding place on the Nemesis after its launch and operating within the ranks of the Decepticons on Earth.
Personality:
Kickback lives up to his name in multiple ways. He is very laid-back and easy-going, to the point where more high-strung personalities would see him as lazy or even stupid. He's difficult to anger and takes insults and threats in great stride, behaving peaceably and passively towards more aggressive and violent members of his organization. Towards neutrals and even enemies he takes a live-and-let-live approach, attacking only when under direct orders, and even then apologetically towards his targets. He seems to be far more interested in making friends, goofing off and satisfying his enormous appetite than he does in engaging in combat, presenting himself as a kind of good-natured, dull-witted regular Joe trying to have some fun and enjoy life between work shifts.
Most tend to fall for the above ruse.
Beneath the lazy, playful, charming demeanor, Kickback's mind is razor-sharp and attentive to every detail, listening for information he can use to manipulate the unwary towards his ends. Even other Decepticons are not immune to being blackmailed or unwittingly used towards whatever ends Kickback has in mind for them; while Soundwave occupies the position of being the eyes and ears of the organization, sifting for potential traitors among the ranks, Kickback is the spiked drink that encourages loose lips to let down their guard and spill their guts. There is very little Kickback will not do to further the aims of his masters or himself.
When Kickback has his victims isolated and sufficiently helpless, the ruse is dropped; he becomes frighteningly sadistic and takes great enjoyment in playing on his victim's worst fears, if he happens to know what they are. He enjoys breaking his victims mentally and emotionally, and dragging them down to the point where they agree (or have no choice) but to become his slaves - this is perhaps his greatest weakness, as he may let someone who could potentially jeopardize his cover or his safety live for the sheer pleasure of watching them squirm under his control. In battle, Kickback is an eager predator with a twisted sense of humor, and seems to end his statements with a hissing triple echo-echo-echo.
Likes: Megatron's Ideals, Shockwave's Technology, Soundwave's Intel, Eating, Humans (No, really!), Eating, Extended Vacations, Other Bugs, Eating, Information That Can Be Used For Blackmail, Cute Cybertronians, Eating.
Dislikes: Slavery, Destroyed Insecticon Pods, Windshields, Being Hungry, People Touching His Antenna Without Permission.
Strengths/Weapons:
Close Combat: Kickback's major combat discipline involves close range physical combat focusing on disabling, dismembering and dismantling. Gauntlet-swords, clawed hands and feet, bladed wings and an extra set of taloned insect-legs make up his physical weaponry. In insect mode, Kickback can tenaciously cling to most surfaces, and is capable of biting through and devouring most materials.
Gear Shredder: Kickback's long-range weaponry is the Gear Shredder, a heavy hand-held weapon with a wide arc-shaped barrel. It shoots spinning, bladed disks rapid fire that are designed to cut slices off of or through light to moderate armoring. The Gear Shredder's projectiles can be ricochet ted off hard surfaces to catch targets at an angle or behind cover. Effective range is 500 yards. Again, Kickback's proffered method of combat with this is to disable or disjoint them.
Cloaker: In Robot Mode, Kickback is able to engage a cloaking device that functions as digital camouflage over his skin, blending him into his surroundings. The device is for hiding and approaching targets using stealth; if he is damaged, if he transforms, or if he makes a lot of noise, the cloak is effectively useless or unable to operate. Stealth-cracker devices that perform deep scans for energon or other unusual energy readings will locate him even when cloaked.
Bomb Production: In B-2 Bomber mode, Kickback can drop standard 500lb JDAM GPS-guided bombs. How many bombs he drops depends on how much he's had to eat recently, but he can drop an absolute maximum of 80 (the same as a real life B-2 Stealth Bomber). Each bomb is good for blowing up a mid-size to large vehicle or two-story house.
Weaknesses:
Low Stamina: For all Kickback's strength and skill, he doesn't have a lot of staying power. Prolonged battles rapidly drain both strength and ammo. If he cannot succeed in quickly overpowering an enemy, he will be forced to withdraw and retreat.
Short-Ranged: Most of Kickback's attacks, both ballistic and melee, are short-ranged. Long ranged attacks are very effective in taking him down before he can get to you.
All-or-Nothing Cloak: Kickback must maintain his surface armor impeccably, or his cloaking ability as a robot and stealth coating in insect-bomber mode rapidly fail. This is particularly bad in bomber mode, as he will be a sitting duck to faster and more maneuverable aircraft.
Big And Slow: In Bomber mode, Kickback must be accompanied by support aircraft. Apart from stealth bombing runs, he has no real defenses and can be outmaneuvered by faster aircraft (as mentioned above).
High Winds: Kickback's Insect mode cannot fly in high winds or during storms - he's effectively grounded.
Rear Guard: In Insect mode, Kickback's greatest strength comes from his legs, and he has little offensive power other than biting and eating in the front.
Passive: Unless otherwise ordered, Kickback is not likely to attack anyone, not even Autobots. He prefers to maintain the guise of being friendly and foolish in order to gain intelligence and maintain the element of surprise for when he actually DOES attack. Kickback must carefully weigh and consider the net effect of every negative action on his carefully built information network, and more often than not, his hands are tied.
Hungry: The Decepticons are still laboring under the impression that Insecticons don't actually need to eat energon regularly. Because of this, Kickback lacks endurance (as mentioned above) and is often under-fueled and under-supplied. He can be distracted with anything that looks like it would make a good meal, particularly when the hunger pangs are violently intense.
Special skills:
Construct Additional Pylons: Kickback can build an Insecticon Hive, which entails consuming and reshaping raw material into cavernous honeycomb-like structures using thousands of tiny manipulators in his bug-mode's mouth. He can also fabricate very simple components such as electrical cables, fasteners or metal paneling found in most Cybertronian bases.
Energon Seeker: Kickback can locate sources of energon through internal sensors in insect mode. This is normally used to locate food for himself or a hive, but can be put to use finding energon for the Decepticons.
Knows His Way Around A Lab: While Kickback has no formal training as a scientist, he is familiar with laboratory equipment and its proper use, making him a handy lab assistant.
Torture: Kickback is very familiar with how your body works, and how to make you hurt. A lot.
Matter to Energon Fueling: Insecticons can consume 95% of all matter and use it as a source of fuel. The conversion rate is less than stellar, and is somewhat dependent on what Kickback's eating: Dirt, rocks, grass or trees have to be eaten in large amounts even to get a little energon converted in return (100 to 50:1), where as oil, metals, radioactive materials, some chemicals or other transformers would get a better conversion rate (25-10:1). The best possible fuel for him is still be energon like everyone else, but he can sustain himself apart from it (though he'd spend a good portion of his time hungry and eating without regular rations).
Extra Info:
Unreadable Glyphs/Strange Frequencies: Kickback's EMF operates on frequencies not native to Cybetronians. His glyphs are equally foreign. Those who have not spent time with Insecticons or been instructed on their language tend to find their projections a lot like reading heiroglyphics or a foreign alphabet. Insecticon “war cries” or ululations are a part of this system of communication, understandable to other Insecticons, or those who can translate them. While Kickback can emulate standard Cybertronian glyphs and waves fluently, it requires mental effort. Should he be drunk, dazed or distracted, his glyphs may come out garbled or nonsensical.
Drone Production: Kickback is capable of creating new Insecticon drones within his body after consuming a large amount of matter and a moderate amount of energon. Larvae are encased in egg-like pods that must be affixed to power cabling inside hive structure in order to complete development, at which time the pod hatches into a non-sentient, non-transforming duplicate of Kickback's insect alt mode. Pod production varies depending on materials and energy available, taking as short as a day or as long as several weeks. Larva mature to hatching from between a week to several months, again, depending on available energy resources. Building a full swarm would take more resources and time than is currently available to the Decepticons on earth, but that does not preclude Kickback from creating a controllable decoy of himself to take a fall when necessary (or gifting someone with their very own six-legged 'kitty').
* Instar - One of the levels of Insecticon development. Rather than molting as Earth insects do, Insecticons after a sufficient amount of time, feeding and conditioning go through a single burst transformation that causes them to get bigger, tougher, smarter, hungrier and sometimes have new body structures or abilities. The first three Instars of an Insecticon's life are usually non-sapient (though rarely some become sapient after the first!). Fourth instar Insecticons have Cybertronian intelligence akin to sparklings, Fifth instars are fully mature. Fourth and fifth instars are capable of transformation, but the vast majority of Insecticons never reach these last two stages due to predation, malnutrition, injury, starvation or being killed outright by other Cybertronians who never realized they were sapient to begin with.
