Name: Ironhide
Age: Older, but still in top condition. Equivalent of human late 40's/early 50's.
Gender: mech/male
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobots
Occupation/Specialization: Weapon specialist, frontline warrior, military
Appearance/Altmode: A sparked military build, Ironhide is wide through the shoulders and chassis with heavy limbs that house some serious firepower canons. He stands tall for an Autobot (roughly Bulkhead's height) and while not quite as massive as Bulkhead he is still considerably heavier armored than most. Predominately deep red (not candy apple) with gunmetal and black trim. Altmode is a GMC Sierra Denali truck, modded with heavy off-road tires.
History: Ironhide has been a soldier his entire life; created as a military build, sparked for and serving as part of the Cybertronian Guard planetary defense, he's been part of the rank and file for as long as he can remember. He remained a member of the Guardians throughout his younger functioning until the beginning of Megatronus' Decepticon uprising, when Zeta Prime recalled the Guard to Cybertron and decommissioned them, reassigning the members of the Guard to swell the ranks of the Enforcers and fledgling Autobot forces. Ironhide was assigned as the personal guardian of Orion Pax, newly designated Optimus Prime, who was stationed on the front lines of the conflict.
Cynical and bitter about the cavalier treatment of the enlisted ranks and the corruption he had witnessed first hand at the higher levels of the military, Ironhide briefly entertained the idea of joining Megatronus' cause. It was only Optimus' growing willingness to stand and fight for his beliefs in addition to talking about them that convinced Ironhide to stick with the Autobots. Coupled with Optimus' receipt of the Matrix, an artifact unseen since Guardian Prime's day, this became the core of the old soldier's loyalty to the Prime. He has, over time, become a trusted and extremely loyal officer, but he maintains a realist's pragmatic view of the war in the face of Prime's optimism.
Ironhide has a longstanding relaxed relationship with Chromia, a military femme who is just as tough and no nonsense as he is, and with Jazz, a former-Decepticon special operations mech who fell in with them after defecting to the Autobots and training with Chromia. After the fall of Praxus the three of them took in, raised, and helped train the only survivor, Bluestreak. Ironhide has a mentor-esque view of many of the younger bots - and at this point most of them are younger - having helped train the majority of them at one point or another, but Bluestreak remains family with Ironhide standing for Creator to youngling.
During the final days of Cybertron and the Exodus, Ironhide remained at Optimus' side up through the battle at Simanzi. Split between the loyalty of cohort and youngling versus his duty to the Prime, Ironhide gratefully accepted command of an Autobot force escort to the fleeing civillian waves, one of the last to make the jump before the placement of the brutal Decepticon blockades during the vorns of Endless Retaliation that followed the Simanzi massacre. He remained separated from the Prime through the resulting Cybertronian diaspora, only eventually making his way back several millions of years later to the newest frontline and regrouping field on Earth.
Personality: Ironhide is the gruff army drill instructor that everyone dreads and appreciates at the same time. Blunt to the point of 'in-your-face', he says what he means and stands by it. His loyalty to the Autobot cause is perhaps best personified in his personal loyalty to Optimus Prime; while experience has instilled a hard edged cynical side to Ironhide, firmly rooted in the starkness of reality, he can't help but strive to believe in the strength of Prime's dreams for their race's future. Loyalty, however, does not equal blind obedience - Ironhide is well aware that sometimes the weight of command rests easier if the commanders don't know all the details and it falls to the under officers and grunts to get the job done by whatever means necessary.
Ironhide has a quick temper, a mouth, a streak of stubbornness a mile wide, and a tendency to reach for blunt force first and attack head on. Despite that, beneath the tough-as-nails growl he has a softness for those in need, a fierce loyalty to his friends, and a deep protectiveness of those weaker than himself.
Beneath all of that Ironhide is, at the core of his spark, a Guardian. As military his function was to guard Cybertron itself - forced away from that, he has redefined it by those he guards. Currently this begins with Prime, extends to those he calls kin, and then trickles out to the rest of those he serves with. A lot of his perception of self and function is wrapped up in those bonds.

The spark ran cooler over the passage of vorn, not so hot and heady as it had in youth. No less strong - never that, he'd be on the conveyor belt for the smelting pits before he admitted weakness - but too many cycles of the same thing gave a mech a cooler world view than the plasma fire of youth.
Too many cycles of the same faults. The same failures. The same problems, the same mishaps, the same slag, over and over. Ironhide might not have seen it all but he'd seen a good breadth of the Pits and he had learned a long time ago not to expect much else. That was a soldier's lot in life, and it wasn't pretty or comfortable but it was the best he had.
He'd thought he'd seen most of it. He'd thought his spark was settling into a cooler complacency, immune to the ups and downs of life. He'd been wrong.
The fire of explosions was a thing of almost mathematical beauty to a military eye, spaced for maximum damage among the towering crystal spires. The screams, though, were nothing like the yells of the battlefield - they were workers, civilians, young and old, sparks that had never trained for or seen war. Discontent had become protest, protest had become revolution, and revolution... had come to the people, whether they were part of it or not.
Ironhide's spark burned.
All around him there was fire and chaos, mechanisms running for their lives. Combat protocols filtered out civilian frames, lightweight, unarmed, no threat, but when he found one of the Pit spawned revolutionaries - armored military like himself, splashed with the sharp edged emblem they had adopted from Megatronus - he acted without thought, striking out with all the force of the burning fury that was running like acid through his lines.
"Yeh want them," he snarled into the other's faceplates, "yer gonna have t' go through meh first!"

Dislikes: losing, retreating, dirty tricks and falseness, misuse of authority
Strengths:
- Walking Weapon - Ironhide is pretty middle of the road standard for military ground models in terms of speed and power, but he's heavily modified himself over the centuries to augment what he does have and keep himself in top shape. His multi-tiered integrated weapon systems are his own personal babies and are just about unmatched in terms of medium range sheer force for a bot his size, scaling from standard range energy blasters to solid-state heavy-caliber automatic guns and large scale energy cannons.
- Solid Wall - Ironhide's frame is reinforced for stability and ballast against his own percussive blasts, with clamps and spurs built into his pedes and lower legs that are meant to hold him steady against the recoil of his guns. Once braced, he is very difficult to move from where he has planted himself.
- Grappling - Though it's not his favorite tactic by far, Ironhide is well experienced with hand to hand and can take down most opponents - sometimes through sheer stubbornness and refusal to quit - if he can get a grip on them.
- Shield - Unlike most of the younger mecha Ironhide's armor plating has a flexibility to it, each plate attached to a mobile point rather than welded as a more secure whole. It primarily serves to allow him to overlap and concentrate his plating against an impact, increasing his shielding.
Weaknesses:
- Shield - The same flexibility of plating that allows Ironhide to adjust and concentrate his armor also means that it is much easier for things to get under his armor. When he has shifted his armor to protect one portion, it takes armor layers away from another portion, leaving other areas weakened.
- Big Dog - Ironhide has a tendency to forget that he is not, in fact, THE most heavily armored thing on the field, nor the longest ranged weapon. Flight and distance ranged attacks can get a drop on him and despite what Ironhide may think, enough of a pounding can take him down.
- Slow Down - Though he'd never admit it Ironhide has more welds and rebuilt parts than he has factory made and age as well as wear and tear have slowed him down a notch - fast opponents can get in past his defenses before he can react.
- Guardian - Though the Cybertronian Guard is long disbanded, Ironhide has never entirely abandoned his Guardian protocols. Faced with a danger to someone he is meant to guard, his own safety gets shuffled far down the tier with the safety of his charge given highest priority at any cost to himself.
- Rank and File - Ironhide also has a temper that's known to get the better of him, making him quick to jump in with fists flying before considering the implications. Deep at spark, despite working his way up the ranks, he still considers himself 'one of the grunts' and admits that tactics, planning, and command don't come easily to him - he'd rather be in the thick of it than having to think about it.
- The Anti-Code - If it's a weapon system protocol or a targeting algorithm code tree Ironhide can run circles around it, but Primus help him if it's any other type of coding. A programmer he is NOT.
Special skills:
- Weapon Specialist - If it's a weapon, Ironhide is all over it. He's not a medic or an engineer, but his rank as weapon specialist includes a higher grade of sensor and some of the lowest level medical tool modifications, enabling him to work directly on live weapon systems integrated into a Cybertronian's frame. He is capable of designing, manufacturing, installing, software writing and updating, and hardware repairing most standard weapon systems, including personalizing the system for the recipient's frame. His own frame includes a small scale manufacturing and nanite production assembly for the creation, on demand, of necessary parts for his trade (provided he has the raw materials and energy on hand to do so).
Extra Info:
- Adopted Creator - Ironhide took Bluestreak under his wing after the destruction of the younger bot's home city, essentially raising the younger mech, and considers Bluestreak as his sparkling.
- Thick as Mud - Ironhide's accent, which is thick and he has never shaken it off, is a result of his early life spent off of Cybertron, in the Guard. Most of the Guardians learned the languages of all of Cybertron's closest alien neighbors for the purpose of communication (diplomatic or otherwise) and amongst themselves the Guard used a hybrid lingo of Cybertronian mixed with dozens of xenolinguistic slang phrases and adopted words, which resulted in their own accented form that is different from any of the usual location influenced accents found on Cybertron.
- Hearth and Home - Ironhide defines a large portion of himself through his personal connections. His original cohort within the Guard is long gone, but much of his stability is tied into his current cohort which consists of mates Chromia, Jazz, and Cleaver, and adopted younglings Bluestreak and Shadowrunner.
