(Day 2, week 1 at 3 AM)
Late night.
Or early morning, depending how you look at things. It had been 24 hours since he'd bridged out of the Omega base to go see Maximus and wound up having an unexpected deeply personal conversation with the big mech. But now that was over, he'd manage to tread through several sensitive issues and hopefully Maximus was off for the better because of it. Wheeljack had been glad to have been of help.
But now, he was idling not far from the road side, not far from the Omega base. The Lancia Stratos was hidden amongst Nevada's rocky terrain, he'd stopped besides some large boulders and was taking in the cool desert air. Wheeljack was glaring, or as much as he was able to, at the Omega base, disguised as it was in the cliffside.
Ultra Magnus was in there.
Bulkhead had confirmed it. The way in was also clear at the moment, it was night shift and most mecha were down for a recharge. Wheeljack was still too buzzed with angry energy to even contemplate powering down. But his own internal programming was complaining. Staying at the Omega base had been a careful balancing act. The part of him that was a sparked engineer had flourished with access to a workspace. But that part of him had also been sparked to be part of a team, to collaborate with other mecha. And despite his best efforts, Wheeljack was getting...attached to the Omega base.
And now Magnus was here and everything he liked, everything Wheeljack had worked to achieve, was going to come crumbling down. That's all the Commander ever did, bring Wheeljack's world to ruin.
The Stratos took off, accelerating quickly over the rocky ground as he rejoined the road again, heading for the Omega base.
Time for him to leave. Wheeljack wasn't going to wait around to watch Magnus rip everything apart again. He just needed to finish up on his last projects, then the Wrecker would be gone. Just him and the Jackhammer again.
Just like it was supposed to be.
Alone was always easier in the end.
