In the dark, one of the chains holding the gates together swayed and rustily mumbled to itself. Ruined appliances crouched around the two mechs in slumped rings; faint light reflected off the hollow portals of doorless ovens.
"Not surprising," he said finally. "There seems to be little understanding among some of the command that the work of mechs like yourself and myself are the foundation that a war effort relies on day in and day out. Glory is one thing, but without the best supports underneath your tower, it falls."
Pyrotech's attention appeared completely focused on one of the nearby cars in the junkyard. His hand slipped down off the door of the car he'd been testing and then settled on one of their hoods lightly, delicately. His fingertips rested on the curve of white metal, then drummed on it as if thought.
"Thirty pounds?" he echoed. The doors behind his shoulders swung forward slightly as he turned back to face the other Decepticon. Once again the weapon mounted on the red mech's shoulder moved to make sure it did not even pass the barest section of Flatline's frame. "It's easily doable. I know I have that much stashed away, and you are welcome to it. It's in the form of human electrical cable, but it's easily transportable and stored like that."
It was one of the things Pyrotech collected whenever he had a chance to. Over the years there were some things he had learned to stockpile and it had served him well when he returned from Australia. There had been no ability to bring it with him that time; the decision to go overseas had been thrust on him in the spur of the moment, and he had gone with only the barest crew and the most minimal of supplies to carve out a location in the hills above the salt flats.
He had been glad to come back and find his storage undisturbed, although he wasn't surprised. He knew how to hide things very well. It was a talent based off necessity.
Between himself and the courier, it had taken several weeks to haul what was needed to start building again back up into the deserts of Oregon. At least now he had a few Vehicons to help with the heavy lifting and digging He'd hoped that there might be some use for the big truck as well, but that... hadn't lasted long. A pity, but he had no time to deal with that sort of nonsense again.
"That said, I could use something in trade. Perhaps you would be willing to discuss the idea?"
