(Set day 5, week 4 towards the evening)
The sun was setting over a state forest in Pennslyvania. A cool breeze rustled gently through birch trees and pines. Beneath their trunks, white tailed deer grazed at the undergrowth. A network of small rivers twisted through the forest and by their rocky banks, the calls of the great blue heron could be heard. It was a place relatively undisturbed by the modern world.
It was peaceful.
And then, it was not.
Two jets cruised through the air above it. Today, the patrols had sent them towards the Eastern coast. Somewhere in the middle of all this wilderness, tucked away beneath all that foliage, there was a long abandoned military base. It had gone out of use nearly half a century ago when the land had been set aside as a wilderness area.
Time had allowed the forest to reclaim it. The only break in the tree line was the small airstrip that ran alongside the main facility. Even so, the tarmac was cracked and crumbling. Grass poked through the holes of the runway. The same situation applied to the big block that sat next to it. Vines and trees has sprouted all around the building. The main entrance was a gaping hole as the building had weathered away and some supports had given up. More than one branch protruded through a broken window.
It was an unlikely location for MECH to operate. There was no road access at all, the nearest one was miles away. The tracks that had once lead up to it were overgrown with trees and unusable. Given MECH's nature of packing up and moving from base to base easily and quickly, it was a very low possibility they'd made a home here.
Nonetheless a patrol had been directed there to check it out and make sure it was as empty as it should be. It was for this reason that Steelstrike and Skywarp were flying over the forest towards the site.
