CHARACTER INFO
Name: Nightfall
Age: (In Human equivalent years- mid-late thirties)
Gender: Mech (male)
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Autobot
Original Occupation: Weather Analyst
Occupation/Specialization: Soldier/ Military forecaster
Appearance: Nightfall's plating is mostly white, a gleaming snowy color on his helm, upper arms, and chassis. His lower arms, his midsection, and his pedes are a gleaming dark blue- as is the visor that, for him, replaces optics. His legs and servos are a polished black color.
His wings are folded back in a 'V' shape, covering his back-struts, though the rounded ends protrude past his shoulders just slightly
He wears his Autobot insignia in red, one in the center of his chassis, over his reinforced chest-plates (concealing his cassette dock) and another, smaller one, on his shoulder. Size- wise, he's only a foot taller than Arcee, and only fractionally bulkier; most notably so on his chassis.
(In altmode, his frame is primarily white in the front, with a red nosecone, though the middle of the plane is banded dark blue, as are his wings. The plane's tail is black, as is the landing gear.)
Altmode: Nightfall's alt-mode is a Cessna 140, a light general aviation aircraft
History: Nightfall was cold constructed as a Carrier, with two Cassettes built and onlined with him, all three of them as one. The cohort who commissioned him were interested in an aerial that could survey weather patterns, as the majority of their cohort were scientists and geologists; light-framed grounders and even a microscope or two. Glimmer (his secondary cassette) was a lizard-frame simply so that Nightfall never felt the need to remain airborne for longer than necessary.)
He was set to his function and assigned tasks from the moment his systems were fully integrated, and for the first two orns of his life, was blissfully happy, doing what he was created for and aiding the ones who'd commissioned him.
And then unrest (which Nightfall had only vaguely registered and dismissed) broke out into open war. Personally, the mech was horrified- to him, Cybertron had been *perfect*, and if some were poorer than others, well.. the world needed all types, didn't it?
At first, he tried to remain neutral, in order to keep his Cassettes out of any kind of serious harm, though as one by one the rest of his cohort joined the Autobots, he felt increasingly pressured to join them. And then Iacon itself fell under attack, and Nightfall finally pledged his loyalty.
For a time, Nightfall was assigned as a simple grunt soldier, equipped with only a basic energy blaster and not much else, assigned to patrolling with a composite squad of groundframes and another low-flying aerial like himself. Uncomfortable with the idea of allowing his Cassette to roam in increasingly dangerous environs, he began to keep them in his dock more than usual. And the times they were out and about, he kept an optic on them.
His unit was out one cycle, on a simple energon scouting mission, when they were attacked by a Decepticon unit out for the same thing. Except the Cons outnumbered them by three. In the ensuing
chaos, Nightfall's Cassettes separated from him to both defend their Host; Glimmer, he was immediately able to recall, but his other, Flare, refused, and in moving to physically retrieve him, Nightfall was shot several times. He survived, but was badly damaged, and Flare.... His second cassette did not survive.
Even as the bond broke, the Con, unwilling to stop there, moved in to finish them Nightfall off- and it was there that his memory core's a little glitched. He doesn't *really* remember what happened. Only that he woke up in the medbay, Glimmer tucked securely inside him in docking mode, and what was left of Flare gripped fiercely in one servo.
The loss of one of his Cassettes- one of the bots that *needed* him- deeply grieved Nightfall, and he spent the next few cycles in a sort of daze, wandering around and performing his assigned tasks rotely, not even bothering to fuss over his remaining Cassette.
As the War progressed, Nightfall gradually returned to his senses- but he no longer held any hope for the re-unification of Cybertron, and indeed felt nothing but the coldest of hate for the Decepticon who'd offlined Flare- and those Cons who'd created the divide in the first place. He placed what was left of his faith fully in the Autobots.
And then Cybertron died, and the Autobots fled the planet on the Ark; Nightfall managed to make it in at the last minute, by volunteering his services as a minor medic.
Personality: Mainly reserved, Nightfall is usually the last mech to enjoy large crowds, or any kind of group attention, if not for his own sake, then definitely for his Cassettes'. Nope. He's happy on his own. Alone means less chance of danger, for all involved, or future spark-break.
Reserved: Nightfall isn't a very chatty mech and can come off almost arrogant, in avoiding others who try to speak to him. He doesn't mean to be aloof, however; it's simply that the mech has difficulty opening up, allowing others more than the most basic of greetings, unless it's on *his* terms.
Polite: If he's approached on 'common' territory, he'll make an effort to be blandly polite at least,
Territorial: The space that he's claimed as his room, or his workspace, is *his*. And no one else's. And on the rare event that Glimmer is out and about, that instinct is only intensified.
(A *solid* exception is the company of his Cassette, whom he will *always* tolerate. And if he feels the former is being threatened in any way- real or imagined- then his Carrier core coding will kick in, and he'll become decidedly agitated and aggressive. And woe betide the mecha who lay an actual servo on them. He won't stop until they've been pounded into scrap.)
Likes:
Peace and Quiet: If it's up to him, he prefers quiet and peace in order to correlate his weather data. And even in the company of others, he'd rather a game, and quiet conversation, than any loud crowd activity.
Medical work: He's good at the *basics*, and micro-repairs, having had to tend to his Cassette Glimmer on occasion. Also, if he's permitted on occasion to do paperwork- he actually welcomes it.
Earth Weather: It's *absolutely fascinating*! He can't get enough.
Efficiency: Doing things *right* is more important than doing them quickly.
Dislikes:
Rash Decisions: Hasty judgement calls often end in disaster. It's better, whenever possible, to think things through twice or three times.
Cassette Freedom: If Glimmer's out, the chances of him getting hurt are doubled. It's basic reasoning.
Physical Combat: It's an effort he'd rather avoid; he much prefers avoiding fights unless specifically singled out, and in the air especially- he's no match for a Seeker or jet.
Strengths/Weapons:
(In Alt Mode):
Weather Based:
Photographic Equipment: He can take infrared or regular pictures and scans of weather and geographic formations.
Remote Sensing/Telemetry: He's able to access basic satellite data on weather patterns and extrapolate the next likely event
Environmental Monitoring: Once he's familiar with a certain region, it can take him only a click or two to determine if something seems to be out of place weather wise.
A keen understanding of (Cybertron's) atmospheric chemistry: He's still working on learning all possible variations of Earth's climate- an arduous task.
Weapons/Defense Based:
Flares (in an attempt to distract any enemies): He can fire one flare at a time, both as a hopeful distraction or to call for aid.
Removable mounted automatic gun turret (30 bullet fire, 3 times)
(In Root Mode):
Automatic gun: He knows how to use it. (It's only a regular automatic gun, but it fires bullets in five at a time bursts.)
Flare gun: To signal his position, or at close range hopefully blind any enemies. (The flares only work one at a time, and if it gets soaked, it can jam.)
Weaknesses:
Lighter Armor: Everywhere but where Cassette is docked; his joints are the weakest, while most of the rest of his armor is upgraded to the point he won't die if shot.
Can be distracted: If he thinks his Cassette is in any danger, he'll drop everything he might be doing to come retrieve it- even put himself in danger.
Mediocre Flyer: Sure, he'll put his spark into it- but when it comes down to it, he's simply not as fast or skilled in the air as a jet or Seeker.
Special Skills:
Medical talents: Over the course of the War, Nightfall (like every Cybertronian who managed to live long enough) was able to build on his already-programmed in basic first aid knowledge, to the point where he could repair himself from almost any non-fatal injury with reasonable confidence, and his remaining Cassette as well, by the very fact he refuses to let anyone else manage any injury Glimmer may have.
Extra Info:
CHARACTER INFO:
Name: Glimmer
Appearance: A type-two beast-mode Cassette with the form of a laser-lizard (long and whiplike, resembling nothing more than a giant Earth skink). The Cassette matches Nightfall in coloring, its frame primarily dark blue, though with black feet and a single white stripe along his back.(The stripe, depending on whether Glimmer feels 'safe' or 'notsafe' can brighten or dim.) It's exactly seven feet long from the tip of its muzzle
Personality: Glimmer is, in many ways, an extended version of Nightfall himself, though the Cassette's intelligent enough to like or dislike certain sounds or things on his own- he's more like a well trained canine, or a toddler, in that he tends to the curious side, with no real sense of 'good' or 'bad'. He's also always a fan of being admired, and can recognize praise, or a friendly tone.
Strengths/weapons: Glimmer's frame is optimally designed to be both light and sturdy, as well as packed with sensors that can register even the slightest elevation and pressure change, passing the knowledge on to his carrier as databursts (only in Cassette mode) . He also, incidentally, has an 'intake' ringed with small, though sharp, denta, and he can turn and bite with swiftness if he doesn't like something, or he knows his Carrier is upset.
He's also *fast*, able to clock up to 35 miles an hour for short bursts (not that Nightfall *ever* lets him beyond easy reach.)
Weaknesses: Glimmer's entire frame is coated in dermalsensor 'scales', each one only lightly armored. The delicate sensors enable Glimmer to sense and warn Nightfall of displaced air and various windsheer pressures (only in Cassette mode). This is both a bonus and a drawback, as his frame isn't exactly designed to take a shot, or be stepped on. One good whack would seriously harm or even offline him.
Special Skills: Glimmer is a Cassette, and fits snugly 'inside' Nightfall's chassis, as he was made to. In the form of a data disk, he can nestle there indefinitely, as well as provide Nightfall with a secondary data storage space.
