CHARACTER INFO
Name: Terrabit aka Dirt Bunny
Age: Late 20’s
Gender: Femme
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: Civil Engineer specialising in Demolitions
Occupation/Specialization: Military Engineer specialising in Demolitions
Appearance: Terrabit stands about half a head shorter than Knockout but with a far heavier hourglass build. Her skin is primarily black in stark contrast to her mostly white armour. She also has splashes of orange throughout in the small details.
Terrabit’s helm has four horns, two from the temple that curve like a ram’s and two above these which flow backwards. She has a flip down visor which has a pair of eye-bands like miner vehicons. When the visor is down, her cheek-guards slide forward and connects at the front forming a chin guard. Terrabit’s face is dark grey, she has large orange optics and orange freckles.
Her torso is the most lightly armoured part of her with black abdominals and white chest plating. Terrabit has a small orange backpack of kibble. Her arms are large and strong, well armoured with vertical rather than horizontal shoulder protection. Hands have three broad flat fingers apiece. Terrabit’s legs are just as well built as her arms. Her feet in comparison are tiny, almost completely hidden by her calf and shin armour. Her heel struts are replaced by the sprockets of her alt mode treads, giving the appearance of spurs.
Hanging from her hips are Terrabit’s alt mode treads forming a sort of skirt. One section is at the front, one section on each side of her hips leaving a gap from the front section, and one further section at the back. Each of the four sections are equal in length and hang almost to ground level.
Terrabit wears her faction badge like a belt buckle, and she is covered in numerous scrapes and missing paint.
Altmode: Bobcat T870 Compact Track Loader.
History: Terrabit was created one of many, in a long line of construction workers in the late golden era. Her natural intellect led her into civil engineering, design, calculations, and planning. Terrabit’s natural interest however led her thereafter into demolition work, very specifically, explosive demolition. Calculating just how much of a given explosive to put exactly where for optimum results were her forte. The cycle of her work went along the lines of clear the old and make room for the new. Mostly…
Sometimes construction was more on a blank slate as one part of a city or another expanded. Clearing already barren ground of purely natural debris was hardly an onerous task for Terrabit. But it was during exactly one such job that she uncovered the ancient remains of a predacon. Like the vast majority, Terrabit had visited natural history museums and marvelled at the ancient remains of the creatures long extinct. The largest specimens always got her the most excited. But now, now she was holding a piece of one in her own hands. It got her motor purring in way she hadn’t felt in a long time. Terrabit very quickly became an amateur archaeologist. Of course, she tried to specialise in predacon fossils, just like every other little spark dreaming big dreams. It rarely went as smoothly as she hoped but she did have one advantage in being built for the hard labour.
At one point early on in her new hobby, Terrabit got her helm remodelled with predacon-like horns. She always wanted to get more aesthetic work done but never really got around to it. As centuries passed, the high council became increasingly oppressive, and Terrabit’s freedom to dabble in archaeology became all but nonexistent. Her disdain for the council only increased as newly constructed buildings and infrastructure were more drab than anything else. In her optics, Cybertron was losing its grandeur under the current leadership and becoming stagnant.
Terrabit never really felt comfortable with the blood sports in Kaon and Slaughter City, but certainly could empathise for need for emotional release. As Megatron came to a head with the newly appointed Optimus Prime, she sided with the gladiator. She felt it was time to tear down the old and install something new. As political warfare evolved into full on civil war and the deaths on Terrabit’s conscience piled ever higher, she too evolved to survive. Where one her motto had been “Out with the old, in with the new”, it instead became simply “Out with the old”. Her ideals went from replacing old buildings to replacing the council, then onto rebuild whole districts and even cities, until rebuilding Cybertron from the ashes of war became sensible.
During the war itself Terrabit’s skills with demolition was key to tearing down many an Autobot installation or fortification, or the disruption of supply chains by blowing up a road or bridge. She was witness to much of the fighting while not being much of a combat soldier herself. Terrabit survived the worst parts of the war mostly due to her sturdy compact frame and decent armour. Having an appreciation for displays of raw power, and a familiarity with explosion from her profession allowed her psyche to stay intact long enough to adapt to constant warfare. She has been with the crew of the Nemesis ever since the final days, but has always been background due to a much reduced need for precise demolitions. She could often been found helping supervise vehicon miners just out of frame.
Personality: Terrabit describes herself as happy-go-lucky. She is a plucky femme who has survived near genocidal civil war and come out the other end physically intact. In comparison, anything the future could possibly throw at her is positively mild. Terrabit is for the most part laid back and social, happy to do the most menial tasks or the dirtiest work. For her, no problem can’t be fixed eventually. She does enjoy displays of raw power, hence her appreciation for the extinct Predacon race, and powerful transformers like Megatron. She also loves a good explosion. As per her original profession, Terrabit still enjoys building, sandcastles, snowmechs, and battle stations.
Simple and honest also describe Terrabit quite well. She is direct and open, as easy to read as a book and happy this way. There is no point, she reasons, in pretending to be anything other than who she is. Terrabit is proud to be a hard worker, proud to be a engineer and proud to be a Decepticon. She is not proud of all the deception that seems to be a normal activity for some of her crewmates, but she’s not one to chastise either.
Terrabit does have something of a silly side to her. She is easily amused by even the lamest jokes and stupidest pranks, even when she is the target or victim. There’s only the one life to be lived and she intends to enjoy hers. On that note, Terrabit is pretty fearless too, after everything she’s survived, what’s left to fear?
Likes:
Power: Explosions, Predacons and recently dinosaurs, mighty mechs like Megatron and Metroplex. (but not like Thuderblast, gosh no.)
Heavy Metal Music: the heavier the better.
Construction: Grandeur before function.
Sleeping: Eight hours is the absolute minimum.
Dislikes:
Easily broken: anything small or delicate does not get her approval.
Peace: Unless she’s sleeping, Terrabit likes noise and activity. If she has to sing aloud she will.
Strengths/Weapons:
Durable: Terrabit is fairly well armoured, she is built to take punishment given the nature of her profession and altmode.
Small: She is one of the smallest on the crew so in comparison, she is harder to hit from range.
Fists: Terrabit is proficient using hers and fights as a pugilist. Hers are just as well armoured as the rest of her body and carry some weight behind them.
Mine Deployer: This is Terrabit’s tool of choice. The mine deployer is a large chunky device originally designed for the permanent placement of explosive demolition charges. Roughly cylindrical, it has a rear, vertical hand grip like a power drill or gun and a forward horizontal grip on the left. It has a top feed magazine that holds three mines. For simplistic size reference, if Terrabit was a six foot human, the deployer would scale down to about two feet long with a six inch diameter and the mines would be a bit squatter than a 600ml coke bottle.
The explosive demolition charges or mining charges or simply mines, are also roughly cylindrical with a flange and self-tapping, self-drilling screw on each of the four “corners” at the base. The screws are designed to be able to embed in most structural and natural materials, starship hulls would push the limit and ununtrium is right out of the question.
The deployer presses the mine in place and drives the four screws and in the process primes the mine’s built in detonator. Any mine not deployed this way would be inert unless deliberately modified. The process of attaching a mine takes anywhere from two to ten seconds depending on the hardness of material the mine is being attached to. In theory, a mine could be attached to a foe by screwing it onto them. This would however require the foe to be restrained or unconscious, it could not be done in random melee combat. To remove a mine simply requires unscrewing the four screws. You have to possess the right tools or operate a mine deployer in reverse – there’s a reverse switch on it.
Emplaced mines are remotely detonated only by using a heavily protected switch on the deployer, or they can be shot with an energy weapon. There are no laser trip wires, no timers and no red wires to be cut.
Terrabit’s mine deployer has been modified with the joy that is Cybertronian technology. It has a secondary mode as a rocket launcher. The deployer transforms somewhat becoming fifty percent longer at both ends thus doubling total length. The rockets it fires are modified mines, burning payload to produce rocket thrust, thus the greater the distance, the less the yield. All rockets fired this way are direct fire only, no tracking of any sort and explode on impact. They fly fairly straight though by no means perfectly accurate with an absolute maximum range of three miles.
Terrabit has a very limited supply of mines/rockets. She can construct more but this requires time and resources. The mines Terrabit builds are very specific to her, so that they can transform from mines to rockets. Standard “store bought” mines cannot become rockets without modification.
Steady: It comes with being slow, but Terrabit really is steady of hand and on foot. She would make a capable sniper provided her targets never moved.
Weaknesses:
Agility: She hasn’t got any. Terrabit is a walking brick. She may not be clumsy but she will never be a dancer, or a dodger of fists.
Slow: Her bot mode has the slowest run speed and her alt mode has the slowest drive speed.
Vertigo: Terrabit gets dizzy at heights and does not fare well with extraneous movement. She likes her feet to be on solid ground. She doesn’t fear heights or flying or rollercoasters, she just isn’t comfortable at all.
Special Skills: As per her profession, Terrabit is a skilled civil engineer. What she does lack is natural artistry, that’s why she leaves it to architects to come up with the design while she makes it work. Terrabit is also an experienced albeit amateur archaeologist. She knows her geology and is skilled at digging. Additionally Terrabit is competent in a workshop and laboratory, a simple necessity so that she can build her mines from raw materials. She however only knows enough to build her mines, but not much more.
Extra Info: Terrabit can generate a holographic (not holomatter) driver for her alt mode as well as project holographic maps, plans and blueprints from her eyes.
Sample RP:
Terrabit placed her mine deployer against the door lock. She squeezed the controls and the device bolted the explosive in place. She withdrew to the side and took shelter. “Take Cover!” Terrabit yelled to her team, an unnecessary precaution in this instance. She thumbed the trigger on the deployer and the mine detonated. The shaped explosive turned the lock into fragmented scrap and a small section of the wall into rubble.
The lock Terrabit had just so thoroughly hacked was on the only accessible door to a plas-steel processing facility. The Autobots inside were desperately trying to maintain possession of the valuable asset. Terrabit and the squad she was assigned too were in the process of taking custody with extreme prejudice.
Direcannon, the squad sergeant motioned for one of the soldiers to slide the unlocked door open. The Mech did so, managing to stay clear of the expected fusillade of defensive fire from the entrenched ‘bots. Direcannon took a tiny camera drone and used it to take a look at the positions of the ‘bots inside. He got about five second before the drone was shot down but it was enough. “Terrabit, Gunhinge, I need you two to drop that gantry crane, coordinate rockets on diagonally opposite supports.”
“Copy that” Terrabit and Gunhinge responded at the same time. Terrabit flicked a switch on her deployer which immediately shifted part and became rocket launcher. She then crept to the open doorway and angled herself to get a look at the support structure of the gantry crane without putting her self in the line of incoming fire. With the rocket launcher on her shoulder, she looked down the targeting reticule. “Gunhinge, target the wall where the support attaches, not the crane, got it?” The small white and black femme directed her squad mate.
Gunhinge brought his own launcher up to aim at the wall opposite the one Terrabit was aiming for. “Locked on, on your mark!”
“Three, two, one, Fire!” Terrabit squeezed the trigger and her rocket blasted a straight line. A twin rocket opposite to her and the pair exploded with concussive blasts as they took out the ceramaplas wall mounts for the crane. She always loved that part. As per plan, the over head gantry crane dropped, and where it dropped took out a number of Autobots and their cover.
“Decepticons, Attack!” Direcannon commanded his squad, and that’s what they did. Terrabit loaded a new triple clip of mine rockets ready for the next Autobot.
