A light smile from Raf, it was all that was needed to assure Optimus that the worry seemed to have been deterred in the young boy's mind. It helped Optimus relax that small bit further into the situation, for despite the Prime's inability to dance around social issues with very much care, and the huge gap of experiences, worlds, and species that lay between them, he managed to navigate the interaction just fine. While it seemed so trivial, where others could see him as performing such acts with ease as a leading figurehead, it didn't always come natural, and he stumbled through them with a bit of luck. Any time he successfully navigated such a thing, he counted it a small victory, one that didn't fade despite the countless years of juggling situations and mitigating problems.
Once the catwalk was safely put aside, Optimus brushed his hands against one another once just to make sure no small bits of metal or chunks of drywall or whatever else got snagged was brushed off. It was a precautionary thing, just making sure nothing got lodged into the seams and hinges that composed of his hands, before he moved forward, placing his right hand palm up on the catwalk before Rafael.
A quiet invitation, it required no words for the moment, and once Raf had hopped up onto his open palm, he pulled back carefully while curling his fingers ever so slightly to offer a handhold. The Prime's fingers were broad and flat, rectangular in a cross section that he used to make a sort of branched shield for the human around him. If Raf started to lose his balance, or even if he felt insecure at all, he would be easily able to hold on to one of the digits or his thumb to stabilize himself. Only once Rafael was balanced, did he continue to move.
"Let us just check to see if the other connectors appear rusted. We can make a plan then."
The ceiling that hung up above was... very high. Optimus would not be able to touch it on his own from the ground level, and reaching up far enough to actually allow Raf to observe the connectors was not necessarily an easy task. That said, he pulled the human closer to his frame to minimize jostling, before he moved to lift his leg and start to walk up the large ledges of platforms.
A little less than half of the room began to step up in stages towards the human's elevator, a series of stairs ramping through the center of it that was more appropriately sized for the organic counterparts. The outer ledges didn't see much use really, other than an occasional sitting point for individuals waiting for shift changes or missions. It is these ledges Optimus calmly scaled, before looking up towards the higher catwalks that were suspended by cables.
"Brace yourself."
The elevator shaft was reinforced and secure and was not at all a flimsy part of the base. It acted as a center support for the expansive room, and would be able to take on a heavy load of weight without issue. It is because of this, Optimus moderately crouched, the hydraulics in his limbs snarling active and starting to pressurize, before he hefted up into a controlled jump to try to gain some height on the room. His left hand clapped forward to grasp onto the column at the peak of this jump, gaining a good grip in an instant. A high grasping point, a toe of his ped grinding forward to follow suit, a push to use the new footing to rise a bit... and Optimus would find himself hefted high in the room.
With upmost care, moving Rafael as if he were made of crystal, the Prime eased his right hand away from his body, and gingerly held the human up to one of the nearest support cables. The cable would be close enough that it threaded nearly between his fingers that still acted as a support cage, allowing Raf to see the connector and determine if it seemed rusted at all.
"Regarding this Science Fair-"
He started, trying to keep the situation casual so Raf wouldn’t get too scared being so high, hopefully.
"-I am aware you won, but not exactly what you did."
A flat inquiry, interested. It would be fascinating to see what the judges valued, and what sciences Raf figured out on his own to impress them.
