Episode 2.5 | Week 1 | Day 1
Silence.
It was....disconcerting.
Just moments ago there had been the normal sounds of activity in the outside hallway. Foot falls of the quarterly guard or the occasional candid conversation muffled by the heavy door. Just moments ago there had been quite the racket and several pairs of pedes went racing down the corridor. Now there was nothing. Even the ever present and menacing rumble of the engines seemed too far away. Vega could almost swear she could hear the irritant buzzing of the florescent lighting.
What happened?
The common COMM channel was regularly off for her, only leaving open important frequencies if someone higher on the chain requested her presence. The common chatter was a bothersome hinderance on her concentration. She paused as the silence lingered on for just a few moments longer than it probably should have. A meager stack of data pads lie in a semi-neat pile on the otherwise empty desk space to her right. Each with detailed topographic maps of certain land masses. She had just started reviewing a map of Australia when she noted the lack of life outside.
Vega delicately lay the data pad on the desk as she stared at the door, waiting to hear the continued sounds of productivity. Normally a lull would mean a changing of the gaurd or perhaps they were called elsewhere. That could explain the sudden burst of noise a moment ago. But why had they not come back yet?
Rising from the low desk she crossed the room slowly, keying in the access code and leaning out the opened door into the hallway. A hand on the wall to her left Vega leaned her head out into the hall. Hopefully she could maybe flag down a patrolling soldier and ask what was going on.
Blip!
The sudden alert startled her and quick as she could she opened the mass sent message. Maybe it could be a summons to explain what exactly was going on? A single glyph. That was all it was. Vega was abruptly as confused as she was concerned. What did that mean?
A sudden lurch, Vega gripped to the doorway tightly. "What?!" Again the floor shifted, far more violently than before. Vega was thrown from her place in the door, tumbling into the hallway as she felt the entire warship list heavily to one side.
She immediately opened the common channel - in the hopes answers could be obtained - but instead she was met with panicked screaming and immediate evacuation notices. Were they under attack? In the truce? With unsure footing Vega scrambled down the hallway, half crawling by the four way junction. Whatever the cause may be she just needed to follow the notices.
Get out. Immediately.
