The first words that Windshield said, they were understandable. Ire, frustration, inklings of potential distress... his past job was not a glamorous one, and even among the working class it was a pretty low tiered position. Lost into the bowels of the world, making sure everything was running clean so that others could utilize the boons it gifted without second thought to what went into such things... Except Optimus, or more... Orion had thought about such things often once his eyes started to open.
Nothing in their world happened by TRUE automation. Everything was sourced on the labor of others, even if it was simply the mechanics who continued to keep the drones running in the first place. So many things others took for granted, enjoyed upon the backs of the unfortunate. In Iacon it was so easy to forget such things as individuals walked blindly into the higher tiers of living, where things that rolled off the street gutters, were forgotten and never thought of again. In such a world, it was easy to never once question the given luxuries they all enjoyed, focused on a distant goal, trying to fight not for survival, but for a higher wage or a more glamorous job title to hold over their peers. It was just... an entirely other world of thought, and the moment Orion was cognitive enough to start to question and learn, he started to ask about things others tended to never glance at a second time.
It was this that drug the scholar into the depths of the world, rooting up the truth and the source, clawing along to learn and sympathize with individuals who were simply created with a frame that shackled them effectively to slavery. What doomed one individual and blessed another? Was there an actual algorithm or checklist? Or was it simply backed upon the mood and generosity of one set in charge of the switch... flipping new sparks down a path of torture and grueling labor, or sending one to schooling to adapt and train their skills for more 'glamorous' arts. It was a disgustingly broken system, and Windshield obviously carried the scars of this heavily.
Only to seemingly accuse them of never working in the shadows or looking beneath their rank to help others until their world was lost.
Common misconception.
Sometimes perspectives were skewed greatly in this war, which is part of why it was being fought as valiantly on both sides as it was. It seemed as if Windshield was potentially one of the individuals, who were biting into the idea that Decepticons were the ones looking for equality and freedom, while the Autobots strived to take things back to the old rule, putting the working class back into their makeshift slavery. It was sad but understandable that such misconceptions were still swirling around, since conversations between the factions seldom occurred without it being filled with insults and blaster fire...
But... if Windshield was one of the ones to believe the Autobots strove to enslave again until the world perished, and Optimus was reading his commentary correctly, then why would he want to join their team?
He did not have a chance to evaluate the recording with too fine of a comb, if it was even strictly accurate to begin with. Only seeing the broad picture, only looking mostly at actions and what was, or was not done, and so Optimus was uncertain exactly how definitive a break the mech had made from his peers. Was returning to the Decepticons no longer a choice for survival? And even the prospect of potentially reforming the world under 'functionalist ideals' was better than death?
The Prime shifted his weight slightly at this, helm lifting a bit to glance over in Ratchet's direction, before peering back at Windshield. He chose at the moment not to comment on the statement, allowing Ratchet to get in any words he may have in mind, or for him to redirect the focus in the direction of the repair work that needed to be done. Optimus did not wish to start a heated debate trying to clarify the Autobot's overall goals, when they needed to get the mech functional once again.
