Insecurity, what could be second guessing on some levels... Optimus' unseen gaze flicked back upon Windshield as they drove, considering the tone he had taken a moment prior. While reading emotion in Alt-Modes was difficult in some ways, more so when going at higher speeds on the road where dipping and twists of wheels were more dangerous than just an expressive trait... it was not Optimus' strong point to begin with. He tried to look into things to best compile a response, but it was just so difficult to get a good grasp on what may be going through the other mech's mind.
He thought about reassurance, telling Windshield he should not look back and devalue his choices. That at any given moment he did what he believed was best for him and the life he wanted to live. While it may not have worked out... it was what he had done for a reason, and that alone had value. He thought about encouraging embracing this fact, while also looking forward to what may come, but... such placating words could look coddling in a way. Coming from a world of Decepticons where the strong survive and the weak get torn apart... to 'baby' such insecurities a foreign thing. Optimus wondered if that would feel more alien than simply letting the moment pass.
Asphalt tore beneath them at their quick pace, white lines flicking to blurs as they passed, other vehicles twisting around the slower ones at a ragged pace to get where they needed to go as soon as possible... Incrementally more on and off ramps would be seen, new participants snaking onto the freeway, while others pulled off to get onto the slower paced roads that slipped beneath the raised streak they traversed. Large signs mapped out where they were going. While destinations likely felt quite foreign, odd names for the side streets, they were now cut into by larger ones denouncing a new highway that was coming.
'Exit Only' brilliant yellow bars were attached beneath the green signs, the white dashes turning into a close-set dotted line. With care and an eye for others, Optimus shifted his mass onto one of these exit lanes, intending to start to drive out to where Windshield would be tucked away from the native's eyes. A place he could stretch out and feel safe, without keeping a constant eye out for danger unless their shielding happened to fail and the Decepticons or MECH caught wind of his location.
"The highway we will soon enter will be your line back to the city."
A way to say he needed to start truly paying attention should Windshield wish to explore and look around. However, Optimus hoped he would research more and act with care before blindly throwing himself into the alien world.
"You will require a Holoform before traversing once again."
Decisive, blunt, direct. Windshield was lucky he was even permitted to go on this ride. While tinted windows helped a good deal, in the end it only took one incident to give Fowler a hard time, and make Raf try to scrabble through forums to delete as many traces of evidence he could stumble across.
