CHARACTER INFO
Name: Flamesnort
Age: Mid 30'sGender: Male
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: Pest exterminator
Occupation/Specialization: Hunter / Sentry
Appearance: Flamesnort is a giant mechanical lizard with a feline upright stance. His lizard-like face ends with a short pointed snout, his tooth plates are serrated but interlock with no gaps and his cheek and cranial armour plates extend backwards like a crest protecting a short neck. Flamesnort has a deep chest and slim waist, while his rear legs are longer and stronger than his forelegs. His powerful tail which is nearly as long as the rest of himself tapers to a point. Flamesnort's rear feet have three claws and his forefeet have three claws plus a thumb claw. He is predominantly a dark shade of green with black thighs, shoulders and select segments of his head crest. He also has purple biolights running down his thighs and across his cheek plates. Flamesnort's optics are the same shade of purple with a darker pupil/iris. He has a small Decepticon insignia at the tip of his central cranial plate. In sheer mass, Flamesnort is about equal to Knockout or Bumblebee, standing basically hip height to hip height. Flamesnort also shows signs of extensive weathering from long term exposure to wind, rain, sun, volcanic ash, saltwater, glacial ice sheets, pure simple abrasion, and all the scars of war.
Altmode: Mark 1 de Havilland Vampire with Dark green on top and black underside. The cockpit canopy is tinted so dark as to be effectively opaque. There is a small Decepticon insignia on the nose but otherwise there are no painted makings of any registration, which is in no way suspicious at all. The other tiny detail is that he lacks the guns of the real Vampire.
Pertinent History: Flamesnort was forged at a time when the caste and class system was still growing. While his quadrupedal form was a statistical anomaly, his circumstances were entirely natural. For his place in society, he was tasked with the hunt and extermination of pests and vermin in the city-state of Kaon. Initially he was thankful for life and purpose, but he quickly felt outcast from the majority of society. No matter how noble and polite he acted, no matter how good a job he did, he found himself ostracized and clinging tooth and claw to the bottom rung of society. While he was content with his profession and satisfied with a good hunt, he came to desire more acceptance, even recognition for his part in the functioning of the city-state. In the quiet hours he’d often think and daydream. Mostly he pretended he was some heroic warrior from ancient Cybertron hunting down the last remnants of a Quintesson army. In short he was enthralled of the stories of the Knights of Cybertron, and other tales of valor and heroism.
Flamesnort was not the only mech becoming increasingly dissatisfied with the inescapable caste system or the arrogance and snobbery of his self-proclaimed betters. It was a young brazen and charismatic miner turned gladiator that seemed to put the thoughts of dissatisfaction into words, a gladiator who fought in the pits of Kaon. Megatron made great speeches calling for a transformation of society and rallied the lower classes like Flamesnort and even open-minded individuals from the upper classes. Megatron's words called to Flamesnort's spark. Overthrowing the tyrannical government and bringing freedom and equality to the masses was exactly the calling Flamesnort had been missing in his life.
Flamesnort counted himself one of the most ardent of the Decepticon cause. He had little taste for exterminating politicians let alone those merely following orders, they were people too after all, but he agreed with all his spark that it was "them or us". Flamesnort idealistically clung to the belief that anyone who fought for the Autobot regime was just as evil and oppressive. Once full-scale war broke it became obvious to Flamesnort that neither side was likely to surrender. To surrender meant losing everything that had been sacrificed in vain. Unfortunately, it was a sentiment both sides would hold to be true. Flamesnort fought as hard as he could to ensure a swift victory.
Flamesnort completely blames the Autobots for jettisoning the All-Spark to the far reaches of space. Without it, no matter what happened thereafter, both sides were doomed to lose. Flamesnort almost entirely lost his resolve at this point although he hid this from his peers. He was quick to volunteer when Decepticons were selected to guard the pending seeding of far off planets with energon. He had the tenacity and patience required to see through this long term goal to replenish their dwindling resources, and his loyalty to the Decepticon cause had never been questioned.
When all the preparation was ready, Flamesnort left Cybertron for the first and only time in his life and was dispatched to Earth. He had zero contact thereafter with any Cybertronian. He thought he was simply going down for a long stasis sleep. That's certainly how things started until the first earthquake interrupted the cycle. A malfunction was what he dreaded and unfortunately what he got. Self-diagnostics of the stasis chamber showed a bad chronometer. An easy fix on Cybertron but impossible on Earth with no tools or parts. What he didn't know was that the problem ran deeper in the system with multiples sections marginally out of perfect alignment. The net result is that the stasis chamber was not running at full efficiency. Any time Flamesnort spent in stasis he still used energon at an imperceptible rate. It wasn't much but after 20,000 years he was drained. As a safety measure, he tried short stasis jumps, but the bad chronometer meant he could never tell how long he had actually been in stasis. For over a million years, Flamesnort spent increasing periods outside of stasis. He only ever drew from the energon stock he was guarding when he absolutely needed to. More out of boredom than any curiosity did Flamesnort travel and explore the planet he was on. He found Earth simply too squishy and alien to his sensibilities and he never did wander too far. The range of his explorations barely covered England always staying close to his station.
Flamesnort even watched as the first of humanity explored the British isles. Sentient vermin was the last thing he wanted to come across, but he let it be for the simple fact that technically they were in their natural environment while he was the alien. He only ever made contact, or let himself be discovered a handful of times. Most recently was a thousand years in the past from the current day. As humans invented weapons to kill each other with greater lethality, Flamesnort took increasing care to never be found by humans. It wasn't until the end of World War II that humans finally invented a vehicle matching his parameters that he could scan. In the quiet hours of a December night, 1946AD, Flamesnort scanned a low passing jet. Once every few weeks for the next couple of decades or so, he would come out of his cave under the cover of darkness, take to the skies and skim the North Sea. Flamesnort only stopped when radar developed to the point where the chance of discovery outweighed boredom relief. Since then he's been keeping a low profile. Around 1970AD, He went back into stasis and has only just come back out 50 odd years later.
Personality: Flamesnort is a noble sort of mech, he genuinely cares about the welfare of others, and is respectful and usually polite. To his comrades, he is friendly and easy-going, and to his enemies, he is simply direct. This considerate nature however only carries over to other Cybertronians, he does not hold other lifeforms in the same regard. Flamesnort genuinely believes in the original Decepticon cause to free the oppressed from an authoritarian government. He wants to win the war and win it fast and he still believes his superiors are committed to the same and are competent to achieve this. Most others easily read him as a little naive and an obvious idealist. For his part, Flamesnort doesn't disagree. He is currently completely loyal to the Decepticons, comrades and superiors, he's even competent and reliable.
When all is said and done, duties are fulfilled and enemies at bay, you can count on Flamesnort to be relaxing it up with friends. At the end of a hard day, he enjoys his high grade, hot oil bath, and more than one rude joke to snicker at and lighten the mood. In the case of Flamesnort, a lifetime in the lower class has made him a little crass despite his better intentions. He doesn't always rise above the base nature of a lifetime's experience hunting pests.
Where his ability to read people falters, he has no issues reading sub-sentient creatures. In his field, he is quite tactical, willingly employing traps, poisons and any manner of dirty trick to trap a cyber-rat. In the right circumstances, like when he is hunting, Flamesnort can be very cunning and artful. A profession demanding the navigation of tight tunnels and burrows in the pursuit some rather tenacious prey has made Flamesnort very level headed and decisive. Flamesnort can be the most patient mech you have ever met, if it's to his tactical advantage to take the long view, then he will without the slightest bother. While he can certainly be aggressive, even ferocious, it's deliberate and controlled. In a war of kill or be killed, he does fight to win.
Likes: Chivalry, solitaire games - everything from crosswords to sudoku, honesty, high-grade energon, a good hunt, swimming, music, astronomy.
Dislikes: Unnecessary violence, oppression, lies, deceit and treachery, upper-class snoots, broken traps, mud and grass, natural disasters.
Strengths/Weapons
Battle Hugs!: Flamesnort is built for in-your-face combat. He is armed with tooth and claw and tail whip all of which he is very proficient in their use. He is slightly stronger than average for his size and able to move his bulk with fair agility and speed. With time, effort and a non-resisting opponent, Flamesnort has teeth and claws hard and strong enough to tear through heavy armor. In a combat scenario, he would struggle to go through medium armor quick enough for a clean kill and would instead target soft parts like joints and necks.
Thick Skinned: Flamesnort's armour is decently thick, but still closer to medium than heavy. He's no tank but he can brush off weapon strikes from an average opponent. A well-placed strike can still get through in places like his joints or a blow simply strong enough to penetrate.
Hot Bod: His creators saw fit to equip Flamesnort with the ability to increase his own body temperature to the point most cybertronic life will get burnt in prolonged physical contact. This is primarily a defence against vermin and small life forms. He does not quite get hot enough to melt armour. Flamesnort uses this ability in both offence and defence and retains the heat for a long time due to his mass. This is a very energon hungry ability. Obviously, Flamesnort receives no damage from his own heating and has a heat endurance beyond any normal Cybertronian.
Dragon's Breath: Flamesnort can also breathe fire. His range is limited to about 50 meters. He projects this flame in a line like a jet blast rather than a cone. This flame does not get hot enough to melt armour but can still cause extreme damage to very lightly built cybertronians and less so to bulkier mechs. This is also a very energon hungry ability.
Weaknesses
Old Man Bogan: Long term energon deprivation have taken their toll on Flamesnort. He is currently far from being in optimal condition, giving the appearance of being significantly older than he is. He is slower, weaker, and his flames are cooler. This is largely surface-level conditions on the majority of his systems, and can be mostly remedied with very extensive maintenance. He will never be 100% again.
I'll bite your legs off!: Flamesnort is a close-range only combatant, anyone who has a gun and can keep Flamesnort at distance is going to have a fairly easy time of it.
Wasted years: Flamesnort has spent a million years out of combat while his comrades and enemies have practising and fighting. Simply put his skills have degraded through lack of use while everyone else’s have been honed. He’s the bluntest knife in the drawer.
Incompatible: Flamesnort’s quadrupedal form is poorly suited to the manipulation of certain tools, like guns, nor can he easily carry certain shape loads. He can drag and pull quite well though.
Too much of a good thing: Flamesnort has a noble spark when it comes to other Cybertronians, a fact easily exploitable by those with a more deceitful nature, or anyone willing to use every dirty trick to win a life or death battle.
Shoot 'em in the head: While Flamesnort's frame does sport a smaller profile for his mass, his face is at the front! A very viable strategy when fighting Flamesnort is to go for the optics.
Easy Target: Flamesnort is more attractive than anyone else...but only to heat-seeking missiles.
The low road: Although Flamesnort is a naturally forged flier, he's a naturally talent-less flier. He prefers to keep his feet on the ground, this is due in part to simple tactics, he has no offensive abilities when flying and due to his lack of skill, is an easy target. Flamesnort only flies as a means of simple transport.
Anti-aircraft aircraft: While Flamesnort can detect active radar and missile locks to some degree, he has no defense against these, nor does he have radar of his own.
Special Skills: Flamesnort is a professional exterminator, he knows all the ins and outs of trapping and killing small cybertronian lifeforms. He does not generally carry any traps or baits on his person except when on the job and he will assess the situation before arming up. He can improvise very basic traps but his knowledge of chemistry limits him to knowing what to use in a given situation but not the fabrication of very many compounds.
Flamesnort purely through experience hunting vermin in tunnels has finely honed sense of sight and hearing. In total darkness, he can see adequately by the glow of his bio-lights. He is a superb swimmer, the equal of any earth crocodilian. Flamesnort is a fairly good amateur astronomer having spent so many cycles watching the stars above England and mapping the passage of time.
Extra Info: Having spent something in the order of a million years in Britain, Flamesnort has come to fairly disagree with Earth's climate and unstable geology. He has survived and witnessed several volcanic eruptions, earthquakes, tsunamis, hurricanes and several glaciations that covered Britain in kilometres of ice. Flamesnort refers to all organic lifeforms as "squishies". He has no real regard for Humans one way or another, viewing them as little more than jumped up vermin still preoccupied with consumption and replication.
Sample RP:
There was a tiny beep inside his head, more of a chime really. Some alert bringing him back to consciousness. The door to the coffin sized chamber slid away at Flamesnort’s touch. He felt bad, groggy and rusted up, which made no sense at all. The chamber was a stasis pod and should have kept him in null time. There was another small ping, this one from a control panel on the pod monitoring external conditions. Flamesnort barely had time to register the noise when the ground, walls, ceiling, everything lurched upwards half a meter suddenly. He had no idea at all that such a thing as an Earthquake could happen. “Almighty bold bearing of Primus!” He swore as the shock brought him to full alert. Flamesnort moved to go check outside since the environmental reading on the pod made no sense to him.
Outside was a small island on the east coast of what one day would be called Great Britain. The stasis pod and about a gajillion joules worth of energon were huddled in a tiny cave in the centre of the island. Flamesnort was its sentry and housekeeper. Flamesnort, his quadrupedal form navigating the harsh terrain with ease, wandered down to the shore, or where the shore previously was. It was receding, quite fast and quite far. This still made no sense to him, he looked further out scanning the distance, and then saw the wall building higher and higher. For a few moments Flamesnort stared numbly working out what he was seeing, wondering if his optics were deceiving him. And then it clicked. “Oh Primus save me…” he groaned. Flamesnort turned tail and fled back to his tiny chamber as the oncoming tsunami grew.
