Oh, bloody hell, she really didn't get it, did she?
Red Alert took a moment for himself, just a few short seconds to stare at the wall beside Rain's head as he gathered his strength, preparing for the undoubtedly exhausting conversation that lied ahead. Then he cut his optics back to Rain, fixed her with a flat, stony expression that was about as welcoming as an electric fence.
"No. I don't need you to elaborate on any of that."
He leaned forward a bit, resting his elbows on the table which separated them. As loathe as he was to allow anyone to enter his personal space, sometimes he had to sacrifice his preference for keeping everyone at a literal arm's length, in order to properly drive a point home. In this instance, the point was simple and straightforward - he was not in a joking mood, and he felt the need to look Rain dead in the eye to properly impress upon her the full gravity of their situation.
"What I need is for you to come up with a damn good reason why I shouldn't call the Ferryman and have him cart you off this planet."
His voice was calm, even, but there was unmistakably heat simmering beneath the surface.
"You've just admitted to valuing animals over your fellow Cybertronains, to having joined the Autobots because, as despicable as we are, the Deceptcions are slightly worse in your eyes. What about that is meant to inspire confidence in your loyalty to our comrades or our cause?"
He paused, not to allow Rain the opportunity to respond, but to tap the table with his index finger, punctuating his words with a hard tak.
"What reason do I have to think you are anything other than a liability who is an Autobot in name only?"
Rain leaned back, away from the unexpected tirade, the attack upon her loyalties. She couldn't quite believe that the interview had taken such a turn; righteous indignation rose within her, the urge to rail out with her own diatribe. But instead of unleashing anger at the insult, she channeled her convictions. She didn't have a tongue, but her words would be no less pointed.
“Yes, let’s talk about loyalty and convictions then.” Her tone was soft and quiet, almost conversational, but in the small room, she had all the volume she needed; her light voice carried the full strength of her spark, and a challenge for the whole universe to answer.
Rain leaned forward and put her own elbows on the table, deliberately mirroring the mech’s push towards her personal space.
“I never said that the animals are better than us. They are incapable of artistic expression or imaginative creation, for one thing. But all that culture we created? It now lies in dust at our own hands. So I say those animals are certainly no worse than us. They don't ritually mutilate others for political reasons, like the Functionalist Council did.” Yes, she was playing her empurata trump card, it was in the hand she was dealt; literally was the hands she was dealt. “And they didn't destroy a whole planet in the name of freedom. Treating an animal as a lesser being not deserving of respect is exactly the kind of thinking that started this war.
“I chose to save the animals because I value life, all life, so while the Decepticons were rampaging, the Autobots defending, and a million or more Neutrals all fled to the stars, I did what I could. I’m not some soldier or cop made with a gun in their hands, merely following orders without question and without conviction. I chose to be an Autobot more than two million years ago and have faithfully served because I care about preserving life, and I did so despite my history with the old Senate that set up The Matrix Bearer. I believe in the cause of doing good, else I wouldn't be here to argue it. Unless you want to argue that the cause is and only about killing Decepticons, because I’ve done enough of that too!”
Rain’s tone changed to a softer sadness, her fore-wings drooping with the emotion. “I’ve done horrible things, and survived horrible things, because I do earnestly believe we are fighting for more than just ourselves.”
