Skystone smirked momentarily at Rain’s comment about chasing Cloudcompass.
“Oh, so you don’t like it when they play hard to get?” Her voice was her own unique blend of dry and humorous, everything she was saying all in good fun.
“Friendships can be...difficult, obviously.” Here she paused, her voice going a little deeper and a little sadder. “One of the things in life war ruins best. You think you know someone, until push comes to shove.” Here she gave Rain an appraising look before casting her gaze around her, as if to indicate the base itself.
“It’s what makes workin’ in a troop like this so full of problems. We don’t really know each other. We don’t have that foundation, here. Not yet, at least.” Maybe one day they would, though. Skystone wasn’t optimistic by nature, but she did believe that this group could at least work out a few kinks. It wasn’t that anyone in the group was less than capable, it was that they all seemingly had vastly different goals.
She tilted her head at Rain’s next words. “Primus, I can’t even begin to remember the last time I thought about a bar.” Or the war ever ending, went unsaid.
"I'm beyond sure Avalanche would drink us under the table, by the way. Might be the only femme that could out-drink me that badly." Now her tone was lighter, much more amused.
“Oohhhh there’s a big difference between playing hard to get and just straight up running, not that I mind the long game, the greatest victory follows the greatest challenge.” There was mirth in her tone with a subtle hint of eagerness. Even as she sought transcendence, she still sought joy and she welcomed the right sort of challenge.
Rain looked Skystone up and down appraisingly. She didn't need to, having already judged the other femme’s physique. Avalanche and Skystone were basically freighters who both made Rain look like a paper dart in comparison. “You’d likely have me passed out in a corner before you're even tipsy.” Rain joked. What she had in experience could not compare to sheer mass. Of course Rain had gone for taste rather than oomph in her drinking, but that was truly a long time ago, back when she was physically capable of enjoying the taste of a cube of high grade.
“So aside from rock gathering, getting inebriated and chasing tail, what else do you do for fun? And flying doesn't count!” She had to tack that on the end, to cancel out the easy option. Fliers who didn't relish in flying were far and few between.
Being a soldier in an ideological war was full time but most people she ever met still needed the little joys to help keep them in the light.
There was something about the way Rain could just laugh after a day like today that clued Skystone in to how the femme had stayed sane for so long. Or the way she could so easily slip into thinking about romance, despite the topic of war also being brought up.
She also couldn’t help but agree on Rain’s point about high-grade. The femme was pretty tiny, especially compared to herself and Avalanche. But if they ever got the chance, she wouldn’t mind seeing for herself what a lightweight Rain was. If for no other reason than it would indicate enough stability in her life that she could go to a bar.
Rain’s next question left her a little behind. For fun, other than her little collection? (she was pointedly ignoring the “getting inebriated and chasing tail” implication).
“I enjoy music. Listenin’ to it, more than makin' it, obviously.” She hadn’t been sparked to create, so she generally didn’t. “I enjoy it most when I get to read. But I’ve never had much time for it, unfortunately.”
She then gave Rain a side glance. The femme spoke a lot, but sometimes Skystone got the feeling her speaking was less her revealing information and more her saying a lot to not say much at all. “You mentioned you meditate to relax, but what do you do for fun? Or at least excitement?”
