(Week One Day Two Jasper, Nevada)
Javelin was excited.
She was excited in a way that was so rare for her nowadays. She seldom had anything to really look forward to anymore. War tended to dull that sense in people after a while, and it was hard at times to just be able to relax.
But tonight, she was excited.
Doing her best to ensure her excitement didn’t leak out of her frame and draw undue attention to herself, Javelin ensured she drove just a teensy bit over the speed limit. Too fast you got a ticket, too slow and that also drew attention. Learning how to blend in with the locals was her bread and butter, as the humans said, and she drew on it now to make sure everything went well.
Her side mirrors adjusted slightly to ensure that Patch was still behind her.
As they made their way through the streets of Jasper, slowly approaching the arena, the traffic grew thicker, more and more vehicles using side ramps to slip into the lanes around them.
It was early evening, and while the sky was still lit, it had taken on a soft dark blue, starting to fade towards navy, and the lights of the city were staring to come on. Streetlights lit up, stores and shops had bright red “OPEN” signs that flashed on and off. Occasionally a billboard lit up with an image of a human selling something or other, and for a brief second, Javelin was hit with a powerful wave of nostalgia for the pre-war Cybertron. Parts of it were like this, all lit up and cheery.
Gone, now.
Checking her speed slightly as a car merged into traffic in front of her, Javelin’s holoform noticed children in the backseat, one of them holding something that looked like a giant hand with the pointer finger extended. Her headlights lit them up, and she could see them talking animatedly with each other.
Looking forward along the street, in the distance but growing closer, was the Arena. The lights here were already bright, even with daylight still visible, tall parking lot lights extending into the sky. Javelin could see the traffic slowing here, as cars were turning in, looking for places to park.
She smiled.
::Hey Patch. Still with me? You doing ok in this traffic?::
Javelin wasn’t sure how much exposure the other femme had to humans, or just other alien species in general, and with one that wasn’t supposed to know of their existence, in particular. She didn’t want to spook her, but also didn’t want her to think she was “checking up” on her.
::It’s pretty thick out here, isn’t it?::

As she spoke, they passed a billboard, it’s lights just coming on.
