Week 2 | Day 1 | Morning
Location: North America - Somewhere in the Sierra Nevadas
Petrichor drove through the ground bridge – the transition from solid concrete to loose dirt and bits of gravel still taking her by surprise despite her expecting it. She braked smoothly once clear and having given her partner enough room as well. This was her first actual assignment since arriving to Earth and being cleared by the higher-ups of Omega base. Bumblebee had been designated as her partner for this task, which happened to be a pretty standard energon scouting mission. Petra was actually relieved that her first mission was something she was more than familiar with and for all appearances seemed like it should go fairly smoothly short of a natural disaster. She opened an encrypted frequency and commed Omega outpost.
“Petrichor to base, we made it through. We’ll keep in touch. Over ‘n out.”
After conducting a quick scan of the surrounding area and noting that no humans or otherwise were around, Petrichor transformed and walked a few steps forward. She liked her choice of alt mode. It suited her in her opinion. It was versatile, capable, and not half-bad looking. She was excited to really test it out in the field in more rugged terrain like they would be exploring today. Petra had sat a ways outside base for a bit watching the few cars speed past on the interstate before noticing plumes of dirt being kicked up by several vehicles outside the 4 lane paved road. One in particular had caught her eye, despite it being covered in the red Nevada dust, as it crawled and scrambled over sandstone boulders and dug through washed out arroyos. She had gotten close enough to scan it and then returned to base, patiently waiting for the moment she’d get to actually use it. And now that time had come. But first things first: checking her energon scanner for any traces of the tell-tale energy signature of the fuel.
She turned in place, optics on the hand-held device and watching the readings. So far…not much. She lifted her gaze and the sigh she had been about to exvent died before it could even leave her. Before them was vista that spanned far out into the distance with mountains and trees stretching across her field of view. The sun was warm and shone brightly on her frame and a breeze stirred the branches of the pines nearest them, making them whisper and creak. Her mouth hung open in breathless wonder, processor taking it all in. While it wasn’t Cybertron, Earth held a stunning beauty all its own.
“Wow,” she half mumbled to herself. A grin began to slowly split her face and she turned to Bumblebee. “This sure beats images on the internet! Oh! Look at that!”
Instantly her attention was on a rushing waterfall a little ways behind the black and yellow scout at her side. Gallons of water were rushing off of the side of the rock face they stood atop of and plummeted to a small pool a couple hundred feet below them before continuing it’s meandering journey downhill – either to collect in a lake somewhere, become ground water, evaporate back into the atmosphere, or possibly even make its way to the ocean that bordered this side of the continent they were on. She practically bounced over to the natural feature and kneeled to excitedly stick a servo into the clear fluid. She knew it wasn’t corrosive – at least, not for Cybertronians and not for such a brief period of time. It was freezing to the touch and smoothly pushed past her fingers. Her grin grew even wider and her optics glowed brightly behind the glass of her half-visor.
“Wow!” She repeated.
