Episode 3 / Week 3 / Day 7 / Closed
Things have been a bit hectic lately. Neon tried to maintain his optimism, of course. He always did. But it was so difficult. Without Ratchet, every issue concerning the mechanical fell to him. Of course, there was still Rafael and Patch to deal with the digital side of stuff and the medical issues. But he'd be lying if he said that Ratchet's...mental absence...didn't overwork him just a little. Right now, he was the de-facto residential technical engineer for the foreseeable future. Nobody liked the thought of moving on without Ratchet or even accepting the possibility that he may never recover...But somebody had to keep the gears turning.
In an attempt to distract himself from the grim reality of their current situation, Neon decided to optimize the groundbridge a little. These changes were insignificant in the grand scheme of things. A slight percentual increase in distance traveled or slight decreases in Energon consumption. Most people won't even notice that the bridge underwent maintenance once he's done with it, but at least this way, Neon could stop thinking about Ratchet for a bit and do something useful instead.
He approached the bridge from the side, dropping down to the slight decline below it to access the individual pylons and set off to work. First, he'd check the fuel lines, seeing if he could do something to increase effectivity. That'd take a series of lengthy tests and multiple comparisons with alternative schematics. But at least it was more work to make him feel like everything in the world was alright...
...Even if it wasn't. Even if Ratchet had forgotten everything, even if Sparkplug was still out there, building weapons of mass destruction for the Decepticons or researching something terrible. Oh, there was just no running away from reality like that, was there? Even as he rearranged wires and tugged at individual fuel lines and pumps, the imagery of everything that has happened since his arrival was vivid. To not even say a word about Soundwave. That was a mistake of his own making, one which he has not fully dealt with. It came at the worst possible time and he had yet to properly apologize to Patch...In any meaningful way, at least.
He let out a weak sigh.
