Name:
Mitchell Bates
Age:
15
Gender:
Male
Species:
Human
Faction:
Humans
Original Occupation:
Criminal/Student
Occupation/Specialization:
Mechanic (Under the Table)/Drop-Out
Appearance:
Mitch is a shorter kid with fiery red hair and piercing green eyes. Though he is a little on the shorter side, he makes up for it with an athletic, some would say muscular build. He’s not a “hulk” by any means but the kind of kid who could definitely hold his own if need be and it’s very obvious. Being the "poor kid" and homeless, he often doesn't appear to be the cleanest kid. He's usually wearing clothes too small or big for him. And he can be a little off-setting at first. But his softer features and kind disposition do help.
Altmode:
N/A
Pertinent History:
Mitch was born in Las Vegas, Nevada to your typical, loving middle-class parents. It should have been an open and shut case; given they were happy and while not wealthy, did get by just fine. Unfortunately, life isn't exactly a fairy tale for anybody, and his fairy tale ended quite abruptly when he was four years old. The cops didn't tell him a lot but he overheard some of it, things like "dead on impact", "drunk driver", "foster care". It all was and still is mostly a blur for him, especially when he can hardly remember his parents.
Instead of foster care, Mitch went to his maternal uncle who was barely old enough to take care of himself. Carlos Linx was a smooth talking, cocky twenty-one year old who had no idea what he was doing. Furthermore, he was deep in with a small, but active gang in his hometown of Jasper, Nevada. With Mitch around, he tried to go "straight" for a time, but before long, he'd gotten dragged right back in. By the time he was eight, Mitch was also inducted into his life of crime.
Mitch... Wasn't a criminal. But as an orphan, did everything he could to please his uncle and keep himself out of foster care. He broke into homes, learned to hotwire and take apart cars, and eventually at eleven got caught robbing a local convenience store. They threw him in juvenile hall, and while Mitch, who was small for his age and hardly a "tough guy" was out of his element he took this as a wake up call. Over the next three years, he was a model prisoner. Keeping his head down, keeping out of trouble, and eventually getting an early release.
Unfortunately, going back to Carlos was out of the question. So, out of pure fear, Mitch ran from the department of social services. Since then, he's taken an alias "Dane Cromwell", and made a small, abandoned home of the edge of town his home. In the time since then, he's found a car garage that pays him under the table and moreover keeps him out of trouble. But he lives in constant fear of being found and put into the one place he fears most: foster care.
Recently, events around town have grabbed his eye however. For the first time, the boring little town he's returned to seems to be a haven for something he can't quite pinpoint. He's noticed a government presence, and heard the conspiracy theories but these small examples are hardly enough to quench his building curiosity. Or his desire for adventure.
Personality:
Mitch at his core is a "good kid". Smart as a tack, friendly, and open-minded, it isn't hard for him to blend in well with the crowd so-to-speak. But all of these qualities are hidden by a closely guarded defense system. Mitch has been hurt in his life, a lot, and therefore struggles to open up in order to show those qualities of his for fear of being hurt again. With all of this being said, when you've earned his friendship, you're his friend for life. He'd put his life on the line for you and will more than typically have your back. That said, Mitch is known for his ability to read people, and situations a little too well. A fact that's attributed to a high IQ that has been crippled by a heavy sense of low self-esteem. So it's better not to test his patience or said loyalties.
Likes:
Trucks, Sports, Old school movies, Helping people, Adventure
Dislikes:
Social Services, Authority (sometimes), Gangs, The Dark (fear), Closed spaces (fear)
Strengths/Weapons:
Loyalty: As stated before, when you're a friend of Mitch, you're a friend for life. So what connections he makes are extremely strong, as well as make him a great friend to have.
Physical Strength: While he's not the biggest kid around (see weaknesses) Mitch is really physically active and built. He's got a great sense of muscular definition that could come off as intimidating - if not for his short stature. Yet he's still not to be underestimated.
Bravery: Mitch is hardly a scaredy-cat, though he has his phobias. He's the kid that charges into the line of fire rather than runs away from it. This is both a strength and weakness in some ways, especially since he can tend to get in over his head.
Weaknesses:
Low Self-Esteem: For someone as capable and intelligent as Mitch, his self-confidence is severely lacking. He's never been the kid with someone in his "cheering section" and therefore never really "believed in himself".
Short: At 5'4", Mitch couldn't exactly call himself a giant. And while some would say that is also a strength since he can get into "smaller" spaces it's also a huge hindrance even with his physical capabilities.
Emotional Walls: Mitch has an extremely hard time getting close to people. Does he want to trust people? Of course he does. But it's not easy after his uncle has betrayed him. This makes it harder for him to form emotional connections with those around him.
Special Skills:
Mitch is a gifted and skilled mechanic. Though he's not old enough to get a truck of his own yet, he has a particular love for working on them. Moreover, his former criminal past gives him a *certain* set of skills such as lock picking and hot wiring - which come in handy in a pinch.
