((OOC: Neko, I have briefly stolen Steeljaw. I have endeavored to return him in the same condition I found him in. Any objections/quibbles/etc, feel free to poke me.))
The message had come to Soledad via a giant robotic lion (or something; she hadn't asked his pedigree and he hadn't offered) who'd delivered it thusly: Shadow's back. She's fine. She needs cohort time, so don't worry if you don't see her for a few days. Understood? Excellent. I'm going back to my nap.
She didn't think the last part had been Ironhide's words.
After Steeljaw had left, Soledad had curled up on her - berth, Ironhide had called it, somehow unlike a bed but far better than her cot - and just... processed the news, as best she could. Shadow's back. It made her heart leap; it was too much for her head to hold. She'd heard only the barest details of why Shadow had fled, rumors that launched themselves into outright fantasy and sometimes blatantly contradicted each other. The only thing anyone could agree upon was that something horrible had happened, and whether Shadow had been right or wrong to run, she'd had ample impetus for the act.
Soledad supposed she couldn't have blamed her. It would make her a hypocrite.
There was no real reason to change her routine, such as it was. Soledad told herself she was just going on as before, eating and sleeping when she felt like it, hanging out with the other kids when they got back from school, and staying out of everyone's way the rest of the time. But more often than not, she found herself lingering in odd spots, wandering up and down the same hallways over and over, and unable to get to sleep no matter how tired she was. Her rescuer's name echoed in her head, and she both dearly wanted and was deathly afraid to see the face attached to the name.
"A few days" stretched into a week; by the end of it, Soledad was starting to get angry. Angry at Shadow for not sparing her a second thought, when she consumed Soledad's world. Angry at herself for expecting anything like a second thought from the Autobot, a huge, alien, powerful warrior in a conflict that had lasted longer than her entire species had existed. Angry at the holding pattern she was stuck in, desperate for something to break it.
Then, by chance, she was walking by the medbay and happened to glance in. And there was Shadowrunner, sitting on one of the berths as calmly as you please.
"Shadow!" The cry escaped her before she could pull it back, though mercifully she shut her mouth before she could say anything else unwise. Where did you go? Why didn't you say anything? I missed you so much! Please don't leave again.
"...hey," she offered lamely.
