Cat had actually managed to fall asleep in the Med Bay. She wasn't sure how many hours they'd actually spent talking, or if it had even been hours but she didn't really bother to track the time, or even determine what day it was. Down here, inside, it didn't matter. She left the 'Bay feeling a lot lighter than when she first walked in, glad actually to have Side's snark follow her out the door. It was, oddly, like a hug. And yes, she wrapped herself up in that red jackass's comments like a down blanket shamelessly.
But she was still tired. And that bothered her.
She had half a mind to just stay and sleep in there but her stomach had actually started to cramp and it didn't take much for her to follow the idea of some food. Some food and possibly a shower and… then more sleep, probably.
So it was with an armful of tupperware left-overs and a gallon of cookie dough ice cream that she was making the trek back to her shuttle, queuing up in her mind the order of movies to watch. She needed some Bruce Willis. Some yippie-kai-yay and car chases. Yeah.
Post-battle restlessness, nothing to expend the extra energy on, and a vague sense of being In The Way sent Hot Rod on an aimless wander through the halls of the Haven, apparently her new mission to protect it for the foreseeable future. Roddi had no complaints about this - she loved new planets, new people, and the prospect of a sapient native species was enough to send her EMF into wild firebursts of delight - but she hadn't been very useful in the battle that had introduced her Order to the Haven, and now she was disquieted. And wanting to go for a run or a drive or find a shooting gallery - they had to have a shooting gallery, right? Even Neutrals went around armed nowadays, it was crazy not to.
I can still show Elita how good I am with my bow if I find a practice range. ...I need to practice anyway, as much as I can, if we're going to be fighting Decepticons again and - "Whoa!"
Movement forcibly dragged her attention from her reverie back to her sensornet where it belonged. Roddi jumped back, though in truth she hadn't been close to stepping on the little being who'd crossed her path. Roddi cycled harshly, regaining her equilibrium. "Sorry!" she said quickly. "I, um, I guess I wasn't paying attention to where I was going..."
She trailed off as the anatomical details of the human, for that was what it was, registered for her. "You're," she breathed, sinking to one knee to get a better view. "You're that human Azimuth rescued! She said you had bearings. That's amazing. You're amazing!" Roddi became aware she was grinning like an idiot and tried to tone it down, just so she didn't scare the human - her dignity already a lost cause.
It was the only word that really made it through the initial shock of actually being stopped in the hallway and for some reason admired. Now that she was coming back though she became semi-aware of how much of a deer in headlights she must have looked like. Mouth open she tilted her head back to look up at the new resident, brows still high on her forehead from the open and unexpected praise.
Young came to mind next, like Moonshot or Bee, with a bit of a taste for style if she were to guess from the flames and bright colors. Young and adorable.
Catherine decided she liked her.
She said as much, very matter-of-fact, when her face suddenly went from stunned to a relaxed grin. "You're a sweetie." And no she would never admit aloud she kind of preened when the femme mentioned her having bearings. "I'm Catherine, you can call me Cat, though. You must be one of the Solus girls, right? Er, femmes. What's your name?"
"I'm Hot Rod!" Drawing herself up proudly, Hot Rod gave Cat a cheeky salute. "Novice of the Order of Solus, blade-class, and assistant to Elita One. Nice to meet you!"
She'd been warned to be very respectful of any humans she met and not to give offense, but judging by Cat's grin - amazing how human expressions were so much like their own! - she wasn't offended at all. Her glyphs lit up with eagerness, delight and curiosity - enough to be blinding, for beings who could pick up EMFs. It was probably a good thing Cat couldn't.
"How long have you lived here with the Neutrals?" she asked, shifting to perch on both knees instead of just one. "You must be really brave like Azi said. Not that the Neutrals here are really scary or anything, but they're so much bigger than you, all of us are. Are all humans as brave as you?"
The very next thing that came to mind was that Hot Rod here, in all of her darling glory, did not fit the description she and Sideswipe had discussed just yesterday before all the shit in Africa hit the fan. She was bubbly, springy, bright, cute. Catherine couldn't help herself but offer a low, throaty giggle as background vocals to Hot Rod's speech. It was mostly the mental image of this li'l femme "beatin' Code into my(his- Sideswipe's) head".
"If you can call me brave." She grinned, nose wrinkling to signal the joke. She didn't have a field to show it, and she was extra expressive anyway, so it tended to work out. "It was kinda by chance, and, well… stuck around." More like adopted them. "Just one'a those things, ya know? Been here… shit, more than half a year now, I guess." She shrugged a shoulder, "Been around at least since Haven was still a shipish item, though." By this time she'd walked her way up to the femme (if she didn't move) and give a kind of half turn to look back and up at her. "Still live in the shuttle; I was just headin' there. Wanna see? Lots of neat native Earth things..." She was walking backwards kind of slowly as she spoke, inviting as she moved. It was just around the corner anyway, and hell, the cutie looked like she would enjoy seeing a few of the average muggle human belongings.
Hot Rod actually squeaked. Squeaked and wiggled like an excited sparkling, her hands clasping in glee. "Do I ever!" She crawled a few paces after the human before she remembered she could walk on her own pedes. Er. At least she knew she wouldn't be intimidating to her new friend.
"This is so shiny," she enthused. "I've barely been on Earth a whole rotation and I'm already meeting a human and getting to see where you live. I mean, I know you don't usually live in shuttles since humans haven't quite figured out space travel yet - but you'll get there, though! I know you will!" Hot Rod added quickly. "Elita says we're not supposed to share technology like that with people if they haven't figured it out themselves yet, but once you do just think of all the things your species and mine can build together. I bet - ooh," she breathed, optics bright as a vision of the future came to her. "A space platform! We could build a space platform together and do science and explore unknown worlds and ooh. That would be so wild!"
She beamed at her vision, then let it go before it made her walk into something or anything embarrassing like that. "Hey, is that your home? I mean, your shuttle? Your shuttle-home. Something."
