Optimus couldn’t focus.
His internal chronometer informed him with a quantitative assurance of techno-biology that he’d wasted half an hour diverting processing power unconsciously from his primary task to four dozen sub-directives. The single entry he’d been working on remained utterly untouched. The data wall running down the screen in front of him, running through the interior of his mind, cycled through again and again and he didn’t see any of it because, he admitted, he was thinking of other things.
Shadowrunner was still in the wind. He’d given her official off-duty leave until further notice.
The glyphs running across the screen changed direction as he applied a different cipher to the data set, half the symbols sorting themselves into new arrangements and the Prime focused instead on decrypting the code compile. His fingers at the console moved finally across the interface, highlighting keystone glyphs. Shadowrunner was still missing. It had been nearly a week since the events at the DMZ, nearly a week since Optimus had re-emphasized the base-wide restriction of personnel allowed to Africa. Shadowrunner was still missing.
Ironhide was relieved of duty for the time being.
Shadow was still missing.
Barricade was alive.
Megatronus…
Shadow was still missing.
The console beeped harshly at him, an error flagging in his CPU and informing him he’d just entered that last sequence code incorrectly and the entire data set was reverted back to default. He cycled his vents slowly, closing his optics. It had been nearly a week since the DMZ. He couldn't focus.
