There was a chance the information would be worth the pain of talking to Slipstream. The chance was enough Starscream was content to have had to deal with the trouble behind him. Looking at the small information holder Starscream felt the chance hold, after all this had been for Megatron. Slipstream was a blind fool but many were. Starscream had given the code a half try that was in the information holder. After all there could be viruses in coded. Starscream had no desire to deal with the aftermath of a virus. He liked his processor just as it was thank you.
The trouble was the information would be worth a great deal and Starscream needed the Energon as did the whole Decepticon Army, this lead to Starscream needing Soundwave. But to call the spy master was a troubling issue as then Soundwave would get some credit…more than some…but he had to be done. Starscream had to have the information!
There were few Vehicons to see Starscream pace back and forth. The unlucky few still on the job seemed to pay no attention, after all it was common for Starscream to come and enjoy the new unobstructed view. Starscream walked back and forth, the steps even and loud. His wings were out and high as always, his optics glowing. With no warning Starscream stopped walking, after a cycle of his vents he sent a ping to Soundwave
You are needed on the command bridge. I have a code that needs to be broken so we may get to a fresh supply of Energon.
Soundwave had been doing his best to seem as neutral as possible as far as the Decepticon command chain went. His master might have been out of his mind--something that would have quit possibly challenged Soundwave's loyalty to the mech had it been as random and unfixable as it appeared to most--but he also knew the WHY and held hope that if the mech was still alive he was fixable. Revealing the why was NOT an option so as far he was was concerned, no one could know that his master still had his complete loyalty. It might not have seemed terribly out of character to those who didn't really understand his motives (which, honestly, was near everyone on the ship), but there were those who did and it always helped to remain as unreadable as possible. Especially to Starscream.
His loyalty would never have been full transferred to Starcream even if Megatron ~had~ been put permanently out of commission, but that was something else Starscream didn't need to know. Soundwave knew how to play his cards.
Pulling himself away from his current task in the comm station, he sent a brief affirmative to his 'commander' and made for the bridge. Their energon stores were indeed running low and if whatever Starscream had discovered wasn't a complete fools errand then he would be glad to offer his assistance.
Seeing Soundwave come in to the Command Bridge Starscream turned to meet him. Walking up Starscream called the small device from sub-space. Showing the information holding device to Soundwave had Starscream looking at it much like a rust virus. Starscream knew the protection codes could be bad and knew while ok in so much he had to be so as not to fall to those who would take Second in Command from him, he was lacking a great deal in the hacking and related field.
“This has the location of energon mines but has it seems to have viruses and I am sure other nasty codes.” Starscream touched the device as little as he could as it seemed as if the problem would leak out and get him by the looks of how Starscream was acting with it. “I know you are the expert for trouble files. I would love very much to have the information but it seems we much both have the findings.
Soundwave glanced down at the pad in Starscream's hand then back to the commander's face. Viruses and nasty code? He couldn't help a flash of skepticism that washed over him.
He took the offered pad from Starscream and, after a cursory external scan, extended one of his cables and latched to the side. He didn't start to hack into it right away however. With a glance back to Starscream, he pinged the seeker a few query glyphs, asking where he'd received this convenient and booby trapped data pad.
Starscream rolled his optics. “Don’t give me that look.” Never mind Soundwave often did. “The data pad is from Slipstream. Said it was coded and all…I am not about to take a chance. What would the Decepticons do without me!” The short time before he started to talk again gave away he had no need for an answer. “I just want the location of that Energon. If the info is good it could help us greatly. This war is about to be determined by who has more Energon. The Decepticons should win easy but are….lacking so far.” Starscream had come to stand right in front of Soundwave servos on hips and wings out and even.
“Why do you keep looking at me, get the info.” Starscream looked at the data pad and to Soundwave, back and forth. “I am not sure why she gave me the data pad and not a temp one.” He kept looking back and worth. “I did not think to ask for one. Just get the information. I might get the data pad back to her…or not.” The back and forth looking did not stop.
Utterly unmoved by Starscream's dramatics, Soundwave turned his attention back to the data pad. It really didn't look or feel--and his instincts more often than not proved to be correct-- dangerous, but there was no need to take chances. Moving carefully, the specialist called up his defense suite and started the process of hacking the tablet open.
It didn't take but a moment and his caution proved to be utterly unnecessary.
The table's defensive, if they could have even been called that, crumbled before him. There were no viruses, no booby traps, nothing malignant or otherwise dangerous programs on the piece of equipment. In fact, other than a fairly obvious password the tablet had practically no protection at all. It also didn't contain any data on energon locations either, Soundwave discovered after a quick scan of the contents.
The only thing on the pad was a bunch of obviously (and poorly) edited pictures involving Starscream in various foolish and compromising positions and a rather bawdy poem lamenting Starscream's inaptness at...well everything. Soundwave might have actually found it funny if he hadn't just wasted a cycle that he could have been using to complete his work. Having a fully functional sense of humor might have also helped.
As it was, he handed the pad back to Starscream, (just as a speech program loaded and began reading the poem aloud at a rather high volume) and turned to leave the bridge.
There were not words to express how much he wished for his Master's return.
((OOC: Feel free to keep Soundwave from leaving if you want. XD This doesn't have to be the end if you have more to say/do. ^^))

Taking the data pad back Starscream was about to ask about what was on it and head the words start to spill out. With a look of disgust he let his claws take out the sound system. With that done Starscream looked back at Soundwave, even as he left, “Wait! What are the locations of the Energon?”
Looking at what Starscream could on the data pad he saw the pictures and felt Slipstream really needed more to do if this is what she wasted time on such junk, sad really. Maybe some isolation in the brig would do her good and was best for her. “Is there is nothing useful on here?” Still looking he noted the lack of any information. In anger Starscream put his claws though the device. “Was there nothing on the Energon location?”
[[ooc: yah Starscream wants to talk a little longer but should not be to long. :3]]
Only Soundwave's natural levels of patience allowed him to pause when Starscream called him to halt. At times his 'Commander's' idiocy was quite impressive indeed.
He glanced back over his shoulder as the seeker began clawing the data pad in frustration. If the mech couldn't already tell that he'd been duped, Soundwave didn't think anything he had to say would help him understand it any clearer. He simply continued to stand and stare as Starscream fumed.
With a few more jerks Starscream was done with the data pad. "....What? I feel better."
Starscream looked at Soundwave and back to the pad. Optics flaring dark blood red. He gave one, last, fast claw and tossed the pad away.
Starscream studied his servos, his wings flicking and optics turning darker. "Well Slipstream may still have the the information. We need the Energon locations from her. Any ideas you want to voice?" The look on Starscream's faceplate should it have been human would be clear sarcasm.
The specialist simply remained as he was, half turned and staring back at Starscream, his body completely still save for the minute shifting of his balance plates. He knew he was being taunted, but like most things Starscream did, Soundwave simply allowed the commander's mocking to roll off him--the mech's opinion of his person meant nothing to him. In reply he simply replayed an earlier portion of their.... conversation.
"If the info is good it could help us greatly.... The Decepticons should win easy but are….lacking so far..."
Of course all HIS OWN information was perfect and lacked nothing, but when it came to the secondhand hearsay of others...More often than not Soundwave found the measure of competency to come up lacking. He was not hopeful for anything Starscream or Slipstream had to tell him.
Still, he would investigate it either way, especially if Starscream ordered him. The Decepticons did indeed need more fuel and, if one were skilled enough in such things, strings of half-truths could be woven into facts.
((OOC: You can interpret Soundwave's replayed reply however you want but he's basically saying "You sure about that?" as well as throwing Starscream's own words back at him as far as needing good information goes. XD ))
