League was not happy. Granted he was never a real chipper sort, but it was things like this that could really drive a bot to plan very unpleasant things for their commanders. Once again he was up slogging through the middle of a burning wasteland. Why? League had wondered that himself, though he knew the answer, it didn't stop him from muttering darkly with every step he took."Of course Prime. Always Prime. Two cups full Prime. I swear one of these days I'm gonna shove an anchor so far up his aft that he'll..." Some days it didn't much pay to be the base's only expert in energon as well as all things having to do with mining.
When informed of the tiny energon reading, League would have offhand dismissed it, as there was most likely not enough there to do the Autobots any good. But Optimus Prime was never the sort to let tiny possibilities slip through his servos, such as this might lead to a bigger deposit. While League did agree that it was possible, he considered it far too much of a gamble, this entire mission could be one big waste of energy, something the Autobots did not have enough to spend without reason.
On top of all of this, sensors showed that the location was relativity close to a human town, while it was a very small town, there was the threat that if they bridged League too close someone might see. Of course a towering humanoid submarine walking across the flat lands of New Mexico was also pretty easy to spot, but just slightly less then a rip in time and space. "Thanks a fragging lot you Rusted-Wonder!" League hissed, knowing that it had to of been Ratchet who brought that little tidbit of info up.
Following his scanners, League soon arrived at the spot where the faint energon signature was recorded. It was on the very fringes of the human town, but it was also in the center of a mass graveyard. At least a graveyard to a machine. Humans called it a 'junkyard' which irked League a bit as he moved in closer. On the plus side there was so much metal piled everywhere that it was somewhat easy to hide, even for a big hulking mech like League. It didn't take long for his sonar to go off, leading him right to the source of the energon signature.
Confused and more then a bit surprised, League's scanners confirmed that it was only a small trace of energon, not the hidden treasure Optimus had been hoping for, not the one League was hoping for either. He found himself standing over an old locomotive, the sort he had seen Bumblebee watch on the TV, according to League's data banks it was obsolete by some years.
Scratching his chin the bot leaned over the engine, combing over the machine slowly with his scanners. The strangest thing began to happen, deep inside the rusted hulk League could detect the faint bit of energon, something no human would know about, much less put on this old cargo hauling machine. But things got even stranger when he preformed a deeper scan and began to get some pins of Cybertronain metals.
"Hmmmm." Thinking about this puzzle, League pulled one of his high grade energon cubes out of subspace. Now this was a gamble, one he had no idea might work. If it didn't he just wasted good drink on a lifeless nothing. In that case he would have to get Ratchet to bridge both himself and the train back, just to see what the doc-bot could tell from it. But for now he tried something a bit crazy and perhaps more then desperate, League poured the high grade down the smokestack and then took a few steps back, just in face his theory was correct.
