Bumblebee was beyond furious. He couldn't remember being this angry about anything in his whole life. Pure rage, not some cocktail of grief and frustration, and hate that ran his spark through with fire and cold. He couldn't believe that Barricade had escaped. He couldn't make it line up in his head like it should have, couldn't accept that their leader had made such a colossal mistake that their only possible lead or defense against the Fallen warship had slipped through their servos. Gone.
It had been a mistake. Optimus had intended to question the infiltrator, to execute him, to fragging punish him for what he'd brought to Earth (the weapon to obliterate them all) and what he'd done to Blue (something to make Bee's own spark seethe with rage). He'd intended to make Barricade pay... right? This was the doubt that haunted him: that Optimus Prime had realized that there was no questioning him, that Barricade was a true-believer psychopath and then... just let him go.
Because Autobots don't execute prisoners. The question tormented him. He wanted to ask, to shout, demand: 'Why is Barricade alive? Why does he go free when Cliffjumper never got that chance!? Why?' But he didn't do that. Instead, he volunteered to take Blue on a test drive to see if hir systems were back to operational and to keep himself in check - and to apologize for his earlier outburst with Dipper - Raf was invited.
"Hey, it'll be fun," said Raf, watching Bee set up the ground bridge. He beamed at Bluestreak. "You really feel up to this Blue?"
