“Perfect place for something shady then...”
It always amazed Nathan at how remote some places could get inside the continental United States, despite having both coast lines settled via an east to west migration. Some places just weren't really meant to have human settlement for the moment he had to guess. But that didn’t mean that humans couldn’t get there if they really wanted to. Probably humanity's best and worst feature was their determination.
At Rita’s reluctance to put boots on the ground, Nathan offered no objections and reassured her with a nod.
“I understand.”
He had no idea who she really worked for at this point, but if they wanted to stay clear of this he couldn’t necessarily fault them. MECH already knew that NEST was gunning for them, hence he had no issues with putting himself out in possible harm’s way. But if whoever Rita answered to wasn’t on MECH’s radar, probably best to keep themselves uninvolved beyond what assistance she already gave them. He took a long sip from his mug of coffee before speaking.
“I’ll drive my own car then. I’ll need to change first...”
He motioned down to his clothing. Given his current state of dress as a businessman, it would look quite out of place for someone like him to be trudging around in the backcountry of Washington.
“I have some gear in the back of my car, but can you provide me with a few additional items?”
All he really needed was a small backpack, some water bottles, beef jerky and a map of the area. Just small essentials that would help sell the idea that he was just out for a hike in the area should he get caught by anyone.
