Having hope was one thing, sometimes a foolish and misplaced desire to see the situation as anything else than it objectively was. Jetfire liked to hope a lot, but hope didn't do much good in a vacuum. Seeing his hopes reflected through Optimus served to fill that void, for lack of a more apt description. Through the warmth of his own expression, the former seeker let the Prime know that his reciprocation was greatly appreciated.
"Hopefully, I can offer much more than new perspectives."
There was another topic of discussion that Jetfire had withheld from the others, partly out of importance, and also out of a fear of ridicule. It was something he had a particular interest in, coupled with a solid body of expertise. Dipping the tip of his helm off toward the corner of the door they found themselves blocked by, Jetfire indicated that a walk-and-talk might be in order.
"I've been rather busy attempting to settle myself here, though I've also had the time to peruse our current personnel roster."
Prior to making contact, Jetfire had been expecting a low population of Autobots on Earth. What he found was far below even his conservative estimates, sadly. No matter. It simply signaled a paradigm shift, not the dreaded end. Not yet, anyway. There was something else he'd been hoping for, aside from a higher population count. That too, he found severely lacking.
"And... it appears we haven't many fliers among us."
He did the math, as he tended to. Factoring in each and every air-capable bot on base, Jetfire's presence alone accounted for a raw twenty percent increase in population. Narrowing the parameters to non-rotor fliers, he was roughly thirty-three percent of Autobot air power, currently. Less than ideal.
Jetfire couldn't conjure up a fleet of aircraft to make up for the sucking deficit, unfortunately. The Autobots would need to rely solely on new recruits trickling in of their own accord, if they made it to Earth at all. But, if they couldn't beat the Decepticons with quantity, he would ensure the Autobots would be able to surpass them in quality.
"I'm under no false assumptions that we'll suddenly replenish our pre-Exodus air numbers any time soon, or even ever. But with that in mind, I'd like to seek your permission to establish a squadron of our current fliers."
His optics faltered, avoiding Optimus's gaze briefly in favor of an insignificant corner of the hall. It sounded ridiculous, even coming from himself.
"Though, it might be more apt to call it a flight."
