Butch nodded at Ava's words. She didn't register every second or third of them, but the gist came across. Kup began explaining how the situation unfolded, and Butch kept looking around. The enormous space was some kind of security room, no doubt. Butch could see flashes of the Earth as a globe, a couple scenes of the high desert, and glyphs she didn't understand. In one of the further corners was the entrance to a tunnel, recent tire tracks leading in and out. Kup's, maybe?
" ... She threatened to cut my avatar's throat if I didn't divulge the truth. She called my stories turbopony pucky, if you would believe that?"
Butch's attention snapped back to Kup. Her mouth opened and closed again. "I...um...well...." She shrugged helplessly. There was no denying that she'd threatened to cut someone if they didn't start talking. Butch glanced back at Ava, nervous for her reaction.
Then Kup did the last thing Butch expected: he thanked her. Butch looked back at him, staring in disbelief. The softness of his face and the warmth of his voice struck her like an open hand. Her shoulders sagged a little, and she braced herself a tad less against his thumb.
"Y-you're....welcome?"
Kup started to walk, and Butch grabbed his thumb. She made a soft sound of surprise, watching intently the path the robot took. When he approached the raised platform beside the screens, Butch took the initiative. When Kup's hand was only a few feet from the dais, Butch sprang and jumped off his hand, landing with a clop on the edge. She pranced a few steps away like a nervous pony, brushing herself off before looking at Ava again.
