That was making her own perfectionist tendencies itch, and Shadow exvented a sound like a hiss as the blue dot vanished. Still, tedious was better than impossible, and tedious without anyone deliberately providing distractions wasn't all that bad.
A couple of false starts later ("Other way," Ironhide deadpanned after the first, and, "No, th' other other way," after the second, grinning at her so hard that she found herself grinning back in spite of her rush of embarrassment) and they were making progress. Slow progress - there was no other way to do this than by ridiculously tiny increments, and she had run through every language she knew twice by the time the targeting check was level with the target - but in this, at least, she knew better than to try to rush things.
There's probably a lesson in that, she thought, making another adjustment and stepping away so she could stretch tight linkages while Ironhide ran the check again. Less than two millimeters off; she felt the automatic rush of almost there, even though she knew those last two millimeters were likely to take longer than everything up until now.
"With a little luck, we might even finish this today," she said lightly, as Ironhide braced his arm back into position for her to work. Another adjustment, another test, and slag it, she'd managed to knock it just slightly off level...
By the time the targeting check centered the dot firmly on the 'X', Shadow had lost track of how many times she'd run through her complete lexicon of profanity (Ironhide's fault; he'd started suggesting new words sometime during round five). She paused, double checked - she had thought they'd nailed it once before, and Ironhide had had to point out where it was still slightly off - and let out a small hum of satisfaction even before she glanced up for confirmation.
"If that's still off, I'm not detecting it. So, now I weld it into place, right? Or do I need to do something else first?"
