Dart didn't lift her gaze off the dirt until he had finished his tirade. Her shoulders shifted, her hands came to rest on her lap. Then she slowly creaked back to rest against the wall. A long stream of air sighed past the corner of her lips. Her optics half closed. She sretched her fingers; trying to shake out some of the tension that had filled her frame until the sounds settled around her.
"Sorry. I promise, I wasn't trying to talk down to you, sir. I wouldn't have, it happens to me all the time, I don't like it either. Just- just had to repeat what I was going to say when we're done with this, you know?" the courier admitted. "That's all. Stick it into my head for later. I have to do that, sir, it's just me. Part of my job. Words, I'm supposed to hear once and remember."
The courier's spoiler rattled once in the dark. Now she took a gulp of air in the silence, held it. Her nose was still focused on the drifts of air eddying around the cave, she was sniffing warily once again, watching. "I know, I mean... No. Trust me, I know exactly how my ranks work. I've failed enough to understand that, sir."
Dart lifted her chin and this time the scruffy femme simply gazed out into the dark. Her blue optics didn't blink, just... held a quiet, resigned expression. "I dunno if they'd sympathize with me, but that's not why I did it. They never have to care or know that they would have died, and they probably won't, and that's- that's all right. It's me, not them, you know?"
She paused and a small, wry smile curled the corner of her lips. Then a faint chuckle. "I still have to explain what happened. I'm- I'm sort of banking on the fact that if they didn't want to come down here themselves, they'll be working on their story too."
