"Yeah, we have to wait," said Sarita, sounding somewhat dismissive. She didn't mean to, but all of her attention was on the horizon; she ground her teeth in frustration. Her head was swimming with curses in Spanish and English, mostly directed at herself. At least she had stopped thinking about all the ways Cleaver and Layby could be furious with her, so...progress?
"If there is time, would you mind if I asked you a few questions about this planet?"
"Hm?" asked Sarita, broken out of her train of thought. "Oh, of course! Please go ahead and sen — sir. Forgive my inattention, I'm trying to think of how we might be able to secure you a train mode."
She tapped her fingers against the dirt.
"But by all means, if you have questions, please ask. I understand why you may not want to sound ignorant; to answer your first question, sir, the most common name for this place is 'Earth'. Some call it Gaia or Terra, and you may hear it fondly referred to as 'Mother Earth'. There are hundreds of names for it, in all sorts of languages; humans have a number of different ways to communicate."
She went back to staring at the distance. A horn blared in the distance, the hissing chug-chug-chug of a moving locomotive rising over the quiet landscape. Sarita wondered if an alt-mode could be scanned from a model train; it would be easier to go into town and attempt to purchase such a thing. Or steal it, to save a walk back to the car. Which also reminded her — she had remembered to only get non-perishables this time, right?

‘Earth. Which of your languages is this in?’ Chironex struggled with the pronunciation for a moment, but it got easier to say every time he tried. ‘Earth. I’ll remember that. Maybe there’s even a name for it in the Cybertronian. I’ll find out.’
The last remark was more a note to himself, rather than intended for Sarita. If there was a name, he’d like to know. Sometimes Chironex thought he should have been an archivist or linguist perhaps, if only he knew there was a war coming. So many of the young bots didn’t speak the Primal Vernacular, the Old Cybertronian, and he felt sorry for them. They would never know the beauty of it, its splendour and richness, the variability of words and accents found all around the planet, but for him, personally, Old Cybertronian was a language which best sounded sung.
Hearing the sound of an approaching train, he followed the direction in which Sarita was looking and soon the locomotive appeared as a tiny speck in the distance. It seemed like a passenger train, but it was too far for Chironex to say. He’d need a closer look to scan a vehicle properly.
‘Is there any other way we might approach the railroad? Or do we have to stay till the humans leave this place?’
If they ever do... The transport platforms on Cybertron were always full, day and night, there was always something happening and even though this place definitely couldn’t be compared to the busy streets of Iacon or Chironex’s native Praxus, he was a newcomer and making any assumptions would be most foolish thing to do.
"English, sir," Sarita replied, her eyes still on the horizon. "I am speaking the American dialect of it now, if it is any help. My language has various versions of it, all across the world."
She went quiet, instead looking for an opening. Even at the evening hour, people were still milling about, and getting close with Chironex was going to be impossible. It looked like they were going to have to come back later, or better yet, have Layby bridge Chironex to a station less populated. The woman slowly stood up and backed away, brushing off the dusty front of her shirt.
"There's no way we're going to get you an alt-mode from this town," Sarita said, her voice edged with a hint of disdaining finality. "Regardless, there are other places on Earth where we can find you something that fits, and which do not nearly have as many humans. I must apologize, sir — I rushed into my current actions without thinking."
Great. Just great. Hopefully Chironex wouldn't be offended, and he'd still be willing to follow her into the demilitarized neutral zone. She really didn't like the idea of him suddenly leaving, especially because of her brash impatience. Really nice job fucking it up there, Sarita!
At least Chironex couldn't hear the buzz of angry thoughts in her head. He'd probably notice the tenseness in her frame, the frustrated glare and the stiffness to her step, though. Sarita could get terribly emotional and irrational at times, and a hint of that had slipped in to the current situation.
"I'll call for a bridge again when we return to my car. You may hear me refer to her as 'Sheila'; she's not...technically alive, sir, but I like to think she is."
