From the sound of things, Maximus was taking his role of an exterior distraction seriously. A resounding boom from his main gun roared through the din. It was followed immediately by the sound of an impact as another chemical silo was blasted apart.
The sound echoed through the loading bay. It only added to the confusion inside. It was difficult to see in the darkness, but Optimus' optics would penetrate it more readily than human eyesight. He would be able to make out the soldiers as they hurried along the rows of shipping containers. It was an interesting procedure. As each row was captured a small two-man team would move on to the next row and secure it, allowing the next team to move forward. In this methodical fashion they quickly advanced up the bay, despite the noise and darkness.
It would become readily apparently to Optimus that Fowler's men were not messing around either. Any resistance they encountered was brutally pinned and seized. Most of the MECH guards refused to throw down their weapons when ambushed. Muzzle flashes sparked in the gloom, until extinguished by return gunfire from the impassive soldiers.
However, despite how fiercely the MECH guards fought back against the soldier, the appearance of Optimus in the loading bay met with a different reaction.
No sooner did he take one footstep inside than a panicked shout rang out. His great height gave him a towering view over the combat area; he would be able to make out the men cowering behind stacks of skids and plastic-sealed crates at the back of the bay. Several were pointing at him and shouting.
Shots hit his armour an instant later. But they were low caliber munitions, and simply ricocheted off. One soldier took advantage of the distraction that Optimus provided to lean out of cover and fire a burst of shots. A MECH guard dropped an instant later.
A call came through over his comm.
"Optimus, sir?" The unit commander spoke calmly, despite the gunfire. "We've encountered an electronically sealed door at the back here. Looks promising. We suspect it leads into the guts of the facility, which might be of interest to you and your people. Any chance you can get us an ETA on when your man will have the power off?"
