Layby was a simple being. Hard-working and honest, he tended towards casual conversation and friendly banter, not the nitty-gritty details of politics and culture. Deuce? Deuce was fascinating — they were in a public space, and yet, he dared to give away the secrets of his culture in hushed whispers. Sarita leaned in, fascinated, hanging on to every word with hungry eyes once more.
When Deuce finished, Sarita took a moment to process, twiddling her thumbs and staring at the clean, plain space of the table. When she looked up again, she replied, quietly and with cautious curiosity, "Colonialism? What kind of colonialism do you speak of? Were their methods much like the expansion of the British Empire, or are we talking something more along the lines of Genghis Khan? From what I understand, the British Empire had a lot of economic growth and slavery, while Genghis Khan wiped those who angered him from the map, but was liberal in a lot of his rulings. I could be wrong, though — as I said, my history degree.... Eh."
She waved one hand dismissively, but her expression was sheepish. As an Earthling, she had nothing else to compare Deuce's experience and knowledge to but the sprawling, sometimes-bloody history of her species. Humans dominated only one planet, but had sent rovers to Mars and the Moon and even Venus; they celebrated every intergalactic accomplishment they had. Cybertronians probably saw such things as routine, taking trips to other worlds like people took trips to Miami.
A thought suddenly occurred to her. "D," asked the singer, "if you guys are close to being wiped out...and if I may ask: why is it, that with your technological advances and far-reaching society, you can't...clone yourselves? Or...no, I'm not really going to get into that conversation, I'm sorry...."
