Two hours of a drive, two hours of painful silence or forced interaction, all sadly leading up to construction that blocked off the freeway and clipped their straight path off abruptly. It was a large issue with the more remote regions they were passing through, singular roads often being the sole means to get from point A to point B. Any incidents such as a bad crash, or in this case, much-needed construction, could force individuals to take a much longer and far more convoluted path than would be ideal. In this case, a row of white and orange barriers and sand filled barrels blocked off any hope of proceeding forward on this route, aiming the trio over to a side road that wove and snaked through a seldom used path that pitched between large trees and rocky terrain.
The road was cracked, bumpy and rough, with many a stray pothole. An occasional area dropping away to barren dirt and gravel before the asphalt decided to make an appearance again. While the state of the road would leave much to be desired, as it was badly in need of maintenance in parts, one look at internal compasses or GPS would reveal they were still going in the right direction. It was just a bit more winding and rural compared to the original route - leading them past a few out of the way homes of individuals that evidently did not wish to remain near civilization.
The trees on either side came and went every few miles, opening up to large swaths of land that had been ripped clear to feed human’s desire for lumber, while other patches housed livestock. Cows watched absently as they passed, chewing idly with a level of boredom that was possibly felt by at least one of the Cybertronian.
The sky had been brilliant blue, warm, and inviting with barely a cloud to be seen. But as the day drew on, and the elevation they drove continued to rise as they passed through the region, the air started to grow bitter and cool, grey creeping above to slowly consume what blue had been there previously. Evidently, the predictions of rain that had been made were coming a bit early - at least to this portion of the state - humidity gradually rising the more time slipped between their fingers.
