“Soundwave,” June recited, “the Decepticon eyes and ears, communication and cyber-infiltration specialist. He’s one of Megatron’s most trusted operatives and, at least according to Optimus, Megatron’s real right hand.” She dropped the formal tone, arching a brow. “Blaster goes toe-to-toe with that guy? Huh.” She frowned into the rearview for a moment. “Well, don’t mind me, but Blaster just seems a little bit… loud, I guess for special operations. Shadowrunner’s special operations so I guess he – I mean… she just seems more the type. You know?”
The highway was peeling off into deeper desert, the fancy little Nissan streaking away into the dry isolation of the outer desert roads where, waaaay in the boonies, the Autobot base was hidden.
As they drove along the vast stretch of highway leading to the middle of no were Bluestreak began to speed up. Loving the feel of the sun and the wind on hir plates.
"He does, I think he was "Trolling" Soundwave when I found him before we got to base with..."
With Ray....
"Yeah Shadows more stereotypical Special Op's but i don;t think either of them can do much right now."
“Well, after what happened with Megatron and that warship back in Chernobyl… everything’s been pretty quiet from the Decepticons, I would suppose.”
Megatron went crazy…er and from all reports Prime had had a classic “you should have seen the other guy” fight with him. The warship was destroyed, Barricade and numerous footsoldiers killed. In general, the Decepticons had to be licking their wounds wherever they were and that was good news for the Autobots who seriously needed some down time to wax on and wax off their own injuries. Ratchet was still doing check up and system scans for the Bots injured and all of them had been injured in one way or another.
June glanced up at Blue’s rearview again, registering the flash of sad in her own eyes thinking of Ray and Bluestreak. Barricade had killed that man in front of the gunner just to hurt them… and she wasn’t sure if that mech’s death made up for it. If his death was enough…
“Bluestreak.” She beamed, changing the topic with gusto. “Do you or any of the other Bots like human movies? I know Bulkhead like monster movies and Bee likes video games but what about you?”
“Then we need to get some Bots together and go to a drive-in theatre some time. I know Optimus gives you guys downtime so we should totally use some of it and get you guys out and having fun. The kids could come too and I’ll splurge on popcorn and overpriced concessions for everyone. My treat.”
Because everyone could really use some normalcy and downtime after this like catastrophe. From what she understood, human casualty was Optimus Prime’s number one massive no-no both out of personal conviction and demand by the Pentagon who were more or less housing the Autobots as a necessary protection against the Decepticons… and would only continue to house them so long as they proved a continued, viable defense. Fowler wasn’t saying it and Optimus wouldn't bring it up, but there was some serious flack being taken on account of the collateral caused by the last Decepticon attack, both civilian and military alike. It was true, the moment the Autobots arrived that the deaths stopped, but the Cons had moved so fast…
Well, again, they’d all lost people. “How does that sound, Blue?”
A quick google search of what a drive in theatre was and Bluestreak hummed in excitement. It looked like fun, watching movies with the humans. Everyone could do with some R&R.
"That sounds like a great idea June. We could all use some down time and a this drive in sounds like fun! Well, as long as it's not Zombie movies. I hate zombies, they give me nightmares."
Or at least the giant alien robot version there of, when ou recharged at least.
“Then it’s settled! Movie marathon for the Autobots at the local drive in theatre. That’s just the way it’s going to be. Once everyone’s up and running and good to go, we’re all going to the movies and I won’t hear anyone arguing with me on the point. You all need some shore leave in my opinion.”
Though, ‘shore leave’ necessitated their having a team big enough to accommodate relaxation. Optimus Prime, though he would never say so June was certain, was not commanding the Autobot Army here on earth… he was the leader of a refugee band under the asylum of the earth government. June had hear and seen enough of the Decepticon troops to know that this was no longer a conflict of nation against nation… the Autobot were agents of guerrilla warefare at best. And mostly they were just keeping their heads down, saved only by the fact the Decepticons themselves were not keen to launch and open campaign of destruction against the human race… content to build the machinations of their war machines over time.
So June was pretty damn proud of every single one of them for thrashing Megatron’s latest ploy and killing the mech that killed Ray. Optimus, of course, didn’t believe in eye for an eye but June was certainly militant enough to feel no pity. Barricade was a soldier and was shot down a solider. He got the death he signed up for. Ray… never asked for this. And that struck close to home.
“When we get back I’ll bring it up. We could all use the down time.” All of us. This was their time to get better. She wasn’t going to waste it either.
