Optimus did not respond to the jab Wheeljack made about him using the word 'leadership', for it was not worth the time of day to even try to bicker about it. Whether the Wrecker wanted to accept it or not, Optimus WAS the leader of the Autobots, and there would need to be a drastic shift and large event to dethrone him from the burden-laden title. Another would need to earn the role in the eyes of all to have the title passed to, or he would be taken down in combat and another would need to step up to the void.
Cyan optics shifted over to Miko as she protested, announcing that Wheeljack would behave which only caused his lip to ever so slightly raise further. If only she knew just how futile such a declaration was, as that word beside that name was a clash of oil and water that would never mesh. Anything that could slightly be translated as 'behaving', would simply be a result of some action being the most convenient to the Wrecker that happened to play nice on the occasion. Or, so was Optimus' views on things, which is why when Wheeljack agreed to depart the Prime didn't truly relax, even if relief was felt.
This shift was not visually represented. He did not sag his shoulders or let out a sigh of a held 'breath', or any other such thing that could be picked up upon, his attention locking onto what came next.
Wheeljack would be able to depart Omega One with utmost ease. There would be no physical blockade or barrier to keep him from getting to his ship or the bridge, nor would there be any kind of verbal call of 'hold on one moment' or 'our debate has not concluded' or any other such commentary. He would be free and clear, able to cut off the fight right then and there abruptly with a decapitating blow. While the argument's root was not slain, its core burning ever strong, it would be ended for this day. This topic would undoubtedly be breached once again in the future on more than one occasion, ideally in a far better setting should it arise... yet it would be over for now.
Yes. Wheeljack's departure would not be contested.
That is... if he hadn't said what he did earlier.
"If Bulkhead weren't so stubborn I'd load him and Miko up on the Jackhammer and blow this half sparked dream land of yours before they end up being screwed, too."
That was where Wheeljack had gone wrong. To say this, even in a moment of snarled irritation? It set the stage and locked it in place as a real threat. A real option. Optimus indeed would not hold animosity should Bulkhead decide to depart on his own accord... yet Miko was outside of this framework. A child with a guardian and a life to live. Not an adult that could make the choice on their own on where they would want to go with their lives on this type of level. While Wheeljack's commentary did not specifically imply he intended to take her across the world or even off it, Optimus was in no mood to even play with that right now and wouldn't put it past him to just yell 'forget all that!' and bait her with Decepticon mine raiding and action movie-esce explosions.
"If you believe for one moment that I will permit you to take Miko from this Outpost after your earlier threat, you are severely mistaken."
Optimus knew saying 'Permit' would be problematic, but he had no cares left to offer.
On any other day? A field trip for a short adventure? Optimus would have been accepting of it. It would be fun to those involved, and there was nothing wrong with it so long as it wasn't actually raiding some Decepticon mine or anything of the sort. Yet, this wasn't some little exploration or journey, this was Wheeljack, and in his anger, he could be reckless and think he was doing Miko some sort of favor by taking her to live the life of a Wrecker or who knows what nonsense.
