Why was Knock Out out of base? Any number of decent responses could have been given regarding that question. Their CMO was just that- a medical officer, the head of the department, their go-to medic in times that varied from full on crisis to routine check ups. He could have been responding to someone in need out in the field, asnwering the call of duty as any proper medic would. Providing assistance to someone who was far less able bodied to do so themselves, with either zero access to the tools required to make a field repair, or without the skill required to do so.
Surely not at the level of their CMO.
Sadly, that was not the answer that could be given. No, Knock Out took off on one of his regular outings, leaving Breakdown to foolishly, mindlessly, fall into line with their usual course of action. Knock Out would enjoy his races, Breakdown would man the station in the medical bay, radioing his partner only when there was an emergency or he was being hunted down by someone ( usually Starscream ). This time the routine they so comfortaby fell into had gone pear shaped and resulted in what was happening now.
This was a crisis, and still, Breakdown was only concerned for his partner. He would only concern himself with his partner, as well as the image of him he needed to preserve. Even if it was for a mech who clearly had some issues with his processor keeping things memorized.
"I'm not completely sure." Half truth, but good enough. "Yeah, that sounds good to me. Best to make sure there's really nothing here before we report back to base." Breakdown returned the smile with a slight one of his own and a nod, then started to walk in the direction that the other mech had indicated. "Sooner rather than later. If we're out here too long we'll lose daylight and it'll be harder to find anything, if there's anything."
