"Airazor is very nice," Rhinox confirmed. "For what it's worth, I'm sure she didn't take offense. She's never been quick to anger." He gave Dipper a reassuring smile. "And she has had people be a bit vocalizer-blocked around her. It happens."
"Velocity is. I couldn't talk straight in front of her no matter how hard I tried. The same goes for Airazor. I... honestly try to talk to her. I-I hope you're right and she isn't offended. I really don't know what to do about Velocity. I just get extremely nervous," said Dipper.
It was times like this Rhinox regretted his size. He hadn't noticed anything particularly intimidating about Velocity, and Airazor was such a friendly person as long as you weren't a 'Con. But then, for heavy hitters like him, very little appeared intimidating. The world must appear very different to smaller mechs.
"Perhaps a desensitization program would be helpful," he suggested. "Spend a little time in Airazor's company, a little more each day, and you'll soon lose your nervousness around her."
Rhinox headtilted a little. Suddenly, the picture was becoming clearer. In a weird way, Dipper seemed to share a certain... minor personality flaw with Rattrap.
"Dipper," he asked gently. "Are you nervous around Airazor and Velocity because they're femmes?"
He tried to find a good way of phrasing it. After stumbling over a series of what could be vaguely considered words, he finally came to the conclusion that nodding worked. His head bobbed up and down indicating an embarrassed "yes."
Rhinox nodded slowly, thoughtful. Dipper didn't seem like a bad sort, just... laboring under certain misconceptions - ones that he shared with a lot of humans, come to think of it.
"Then we'll have to adjust a few subroutines," he said gently. "Until 'femme' simply means another subset of Cybertronian for you, and not 'exotic species around which you feel under pressure to put on a mating display.' " He smiled to take the sting out of his words. "It'll take time, but it's worth the effort to have someone like Airazor as a friend."
Dipper paused. It was more or less accurate. The fact was, he was sure that nearly all femmes thought of him as some sort of annoying loser that could freely be ignored or to trample on his feelings however they wished. In his efforts, he was sure he screwed up more in front of them.
"Can you help me out with that? I mean uh... if it's not too much trouble," said Dipper.
