Holy Primus' bolts, Chris had been right. Their weapons really didn't do much damage! Admitted by an Autobot herself! He didn't know whether to be scared or offended at her comment, but either way he kept his rifles trained on her.
She looked surprised, but about what, Jeff didn't know, and on top of that she didn't seem to be going for the human, and for that Jeff was disappointed.
"Y-you're...Where are you going? You can't plug into that! I- uh - I got a hostage!" The Vehicon nearly turned his right arm on Soledad, but she was probably as scared as he was. He remembered this one time he was in the room with two commanding officers. They'd had a tiff and were quarreling, and the argument got so bad Jeff was sure they'd kill each other. But then one of them had turned his weapon on him instead of the other. The only reason he wasn't shot dead that day was that the other officer had pointed out quite correctly that the base they were occupying at the time had only a very very limited number of Vehicons to boss around, and if neither of the officers wanted to do manual work, Jeff had better live. so, Jefferson figured he understood Soledad's position; it was somewhat the same, and the Vehicon had enough of a sense of empathy to not do that to her. Instead, he continued to try to subtly save her life. "Um. You're running out of time, Autobot, I already called reinforcements! They'll be here any second! You better, uh," Stage a rescue? Grab the human? Get the Pit over here? Maybe he could hide a statement within another statement, like some subliminal messaging. "UH. Make like a tree! Go on! Shoo!"
...
MAKE....like a TREE!? Shoo!? The hell was he saying!? Not only was that the stupidest joke to use as a line in battle, he also finished it wrong and did not, at all, relay any secret message within that joke whatsoever! He could punch himself! And shoo? Who in the history of the whole war ever told an Autobot to shoo??
