It was a dark day indeed that Barricade ever chose to hunt down the Decepticon air commander for reasons other than fragging around with the twitchy Seeker. While it was true that Barricade had once trained under Megatron’s second in command, the Mustang by no means respected Starscream and had never in particular made any attempt to hide this fact even while under his direct command. Megatron himself had ordered Cade’s training overseen by the Seeker. It was an… interesting relationship.
While Barricade’s grasp of temporal physics and aeronautics had been thorough and expansive, that didn’t stop Commander Starscream from occasionally trying to choke the young lieutenant to death just for being so mouthy. It was notable that despite the frequent choking, Barricade never missed a point his CO was telling him… even while being choked. Their mutual hatred for one another amused Megatron, Barricade knew this, which was most likely why he liked putting them in the same room together – to watch Barricade mouth off uncontrollably and Screamer twitch in rage.
It was highly unprofessional.
Barricade loved it.
But there was a time and place for everything and while Barricade tended to blur the lines between appropriate and inappropriate he knew now was more the time for structured, military discipline and… and… Fraggit. Whatever. The infiltrator popped up ninja-con-style behind Starscream on the command deck, having approached unnoticed until he said, loudly, gleefully, “Commander Starscream!”
The command deck was a wonderful place to be when Megatron was not around. Starscream stood looking over all that had once been his. He enjoyed the feel of the power again, even if only for a short while, being in charge and in command. Of course all good things must come to an end. All would think after a few times of a ninja-showing-up Starscream would grow numb to the joke done by Barricade. Somehow the Seeker never did. With a jump the Seeker turned around. The wings out and stiff, the servos dancing like always.
“Barricade stop that!” The Seeker’s wings still out had gone had gone high up. It was clear the SIC was mad but there was also a note of glee in the optics. “What do you want now? I am busy. Unlike you who seems to just ninja around.”
Barricade would never get sick of Starscream’s frenetic twitchery. EMF all aglow with amusement, he gave a sort of ironic salute thing that could have been him dusting dirt off his shoulder mount for all the respect it seemed to indicate. He ignored the commander’s question for a moment, moving past him to the nearest control panel and keying in a few strokes, the holo interface leaping active in the air above the console and flickering to show the Phantom and a large map of both Jasper Nevada and the East Coast power grid, the latter of which was marked by seven red beacons.
“You’re busy waiting for my report, Commander.” Barricade shot his CO a lengthy sidelong look before bringing up the powergrid. “Shockwave just finished with the details.” He indicated the red beacons. “These seven powerstations are being simultaneously power leeched by Vehicon units while Soundwave hacks the control mainframe and keeps the humans from shutting anything down remotely. During this time, I will be engaging the Autobots and splitting their party, likely outside of Jasper Nevada and I will need airsupport, specifically yours.”
Barricade ignored the Seeker’s familiar brand of loathing, though he was mildly perturbed by the glee in his EMF. The thought of Starscream happy had come to mean one of about a handful of things in the infiltrator’s mind, none of them conducive to his own health or Megatron’s generally.
“When I give the signal, your job will be carpet bombing my pursuers before joining the regular troops defending the powerstations.” Then, to evade the argument of rank, he added, “These are Megatron’s orders.”

Starscream did what he would never do with Megatron. He rolled his optics. Barricade was making him wait for the report. The glitch. He was scrap but could be of use if Starscream could figure out how to use him. A pleasant thought for later.
Hearing the report was both interesting and annoying. He hated being given Megatron’s order from another mech. And from Barricade. The worst. “So the infiltrator gets to be the messenger puppy. Good job little boy.”
Starscream went over to the holo studying it. His wings shifting and his servos crossed at his chest while he shifted from leg to leg in time with the wings. “You need my help? I am shocked to learn you can’t do this yourself. I have to wonder why you need me however. Would not a group of air Vehicons be easier for you to deal with?”
“Of course that would be easier for me,” drawled Barricade, returning Starscream’s eyeroll with one of his own. He swiped a servo across the console board, clearing the data on the holo screen. “Would you be willing to requisition your Vehicon jets to me to use as I see fit, command the assault? I’d certainly rather just handle splitting the Autobot team, timing the power drains, killing Autobots, and then piloting the ship that will ultimately annihilate Optimus Prime… You know, the one that I brought to Earth?”
He shot the Seeker a completely calculating look before adding, a bit thoughtfully, “Actually, you know, the idea of you being excluded from all those endeavors doesn’t sound like a bad thing at all. You’ve done nothing to forward the Decepticon cause since your glorified bout botsitting the Nemesis while Megatron was down. Why break a perfect record?” The Mustang shrugged, EMF rippling with sarcasm. “But sure. I’ll just take the Vehicons and you can… I guess, go with one of the other power-stations teams.”
“I have done no worse than Lord]/i] Megatron. I was just getting my footing, if I had been given more time and the Autobots would have been dead. But what would you know having been gone so long.” Starscream gave a strange look. “Ah yes the ship…interesting.” The look became thoughtful, “Are you sure it will work?”
Starscream gave a disgusted look the wings annoyed and yet mad as well causing them to half dance, “As much as I would enjoy not having to deal with you I must. I am not letting you kill my Vehicons like you have all your ‘partners’ over the eons.”
Barricade shot the air commander a cool look, level as his EMF. “Not all of my partners have died,” said the infiltrator vaguely optics returning to the control panel. “Just the ones to weak to keep up and to answer your previous question, no, I am not sure it will work. It will fly, I can make the slagging thing do loop-de-loops if you like, but I can’t promise the weapon systems will come online after this little venture.” A pause before Barricade added, wryly, “Shockwave, however, has given it an eighty-eight point five six three percent chance of success barring ‘individual non-performance’.”
His expression for exactly one moment shared and open and common disdain with Starscream for the psycho scientist. Whereas Barricade had general reasons to hate Starscream he had far more specific and recent reasons to hate Shockwave. Also dressing up his passing the buck with fancy numbers didn’t escape the lieutenant’s notice: ‘individual non-performance’ meant him, Starscream, the officers on the ground, and the Vehicons. Not him fragging up calculations, naturally.
“Once I have the Autobots engaged I’ll comm. you to my position. Track my position through comm. frequency and I’ll give you the go to frag my pursuers. Then we’ll reconvene with the other Vehicons. Is that clear enough?”
“KIA or MIA it all seems to be the same in the end.” Starscream waved a servo to show he was moving on the conversation.
“Shockwave’s percents are pointless. He is all about individual non-performance when even his scrap mess up. He should get his processor fixed.” The wings and frame all had an easy about them. But even then there was a feel to the EM field that showed he trusted Barricade no more or was letting his guard down no less because they both had a dislike of Shockwave. Starscream would be sure to remember as it looked as if the infiltrator had a more personal reason.
Starscream just looked at Barricade “You will give me the go? I have enough knowledge to know when to came and take care of the Autobots.” Starscream was sure to keep his EM field more arrogant than normal.
“Then strike when you deem it most prudent,” said Barricade, unfazed. Starscream’s ‘more arrogant than usual’ was actually par for the course and Barricade had weathered the 2IC through far more extravagant bouts of self-importance. At least in this case they were talking about Starscream’s forte – airborne combat. Barricade glared.
“But I won’t be responsible if it was not the most opportune moment.” He glanced at the commander again, looking him briefly up and down, though what passed through his head as he did was unfathomable. “I don’t anticipate it mattering. Once the Bots split and we’re outside the notice of any human populace, feel free to destroy them. The quicker this is done, the sooner we can help the others.”
“Oh I will destroy them. It seemed there is one action we can agree on that. The faster the Autobots are destroyed the better.” Starscream gave no acknowledgment to Barricade’s look standing as he had been and as he normal did. Barricade liked to make moves that would cause another worry. And the Seeker would enjoy the thought of Barricade’s glace not working.
With a shrug Starscream smirked at Barricade. “Do you want a head start? I can fly there in half the time it would take it to drive there.” Starscream let his wings dance to give yet another point about he could fly were as Barricade could not. Barricade never really seemed to care about flying even in the flight school Starscream had Barricade in the infiltrator never loved flying like other did, a fact Starscream could not understand with flying be so important to him.
“Yeah, yeah, Seekers rule, dirt-kissers drool. I’ve been through your anti-automobile tirades before. Just make sure you and the Vehicons are there to get them off my back. The Bots have their weapon specialist and Blaster on base with them and either of them could be trouble, even for a Seeker.”
Barricade shot the Air Commander an exceptionally flat look, his EMF utterly disdainful. He was aware, by the nature of the other mech’s look and tone that he didn’t get Barricade. For all that Starscream was a schemer, a plotter, and long-time warrior and aerial tactician, he still didn’t get why Barricade did the slag that he did. He didn’t understand why Barricade, a racer bot and a built grounder, would choose to train in piloting and aeronautics. He didn’t get his loyalty to Megatron. He didn’t get Cade’s relationships with any of the other mechs he worked with.
“If we do this right, we win the war tomorrow,” said Barricade flatly. A smirk. “Let’s not frag it up.”

“At least you know.” The wings dance for a moment longer, then went back to resting position. “I know what to for backup. It will be an easy run and a dull time I am sure.” Starscream’s wings half jerked at the talk of Blaster and his servos moved from his hips to cross at the chest. “Blaster….that will be annoying. I hate his choice his music.” Starscream did not like Blaster’s music but more than that Blaster being like Soundwave, the silent shadow, worried Starscream like no other bot. Blaster could hack his processor. Not a happy thought or pleasant. Best to find where Blaster was and avoid the area.
Starscream felt the shift in Barricade’s EM field. Barricade could be such a pre-madonna. And others thought Starscream was the drama queen. Starscream watched and waited for the moment to pass. Only half wondering what Barricade was thinking.
The sly smirk came at Barricade’s words. One of Starscream’s servos dropped as the other came forward as if to crush something. “That is the idea. And what a glorious idea it is. You do your part and I will do mine.”
