Set week 2, day 3
Wheeljack eyed the selection of tools set out in front of him with an air of satisfaction. Say what you want about the Decepticons but they didn't skimp on their equipment. Just the drones operating the tools. He'd liberated this set of equipment during that first energon raid with Fort Max. All the hand held laser drills a Bot could possibly want and more. Wheeljack subspaced enough tools for two mecha before he glanced across at Miko.
Prime had made it expressively clear that he would not permit harm to come to the humans under his protection. Wheeljack was also supposed to get project approval for anything he was thinking of building. The project on his mind however, Wheeljack felt, would go straight to the rejection pile before he even had a chance to make a case for it. Soooo, Wheeljack figured, he simply had to build the thing somewhere else and present the results before it had a chance to be vetoed. After all, what he chose to do in his own time, when off base was his own personal business. Most of the components Wheeljack needed, he'd already acquired from his previous scavenging efforts and were already stored on board the Jackhammer. He'd gone through a few prototypes and tests before he realized what was missing.
What he needed were crystals. There were some circuits he was going to construct from scratch. Technically, Wheeljack could probably put in a request with Agent Fowler and get some synthetic ones delivered to his lab. But that of course would leave a clear record for the many optics that were on both him and his lab. That meant that Wheeljack was doing this the long and hard way, which he didn’t mind doing if it ended giving him a one up on Prime.
"So this is how it's gonna work," he rumbled at his human companion. "There's a Bot here who's rock crazy. We're going along with her to dig up some shinies. Nothing more, nothing less. In fact," Wheeljack eyed Miko thoughtfully. "Maybe I'm going alone with her to dig up some rocks." He tapped his chest plate deliberately, knowing Miko's tendency to pop up unexpectedly in unsuspecting Bots. "Have to keep you small things safe, you know." He shot her a crooked grin. "Got anything to add?"
The bot in question, Rocket, actually had no such plans. But a glance at the roster had shown she had a bit of spare time on her servos, so Wheeljack figured he might as well talk her into doing something productive that she'd also enjoy. If anyone decided to dig a little deeper, Wheeljack's explanation for his presence was that he'd gone along as back up in case of Decepticons, also, frag you, what he did in his own time was up to him.
One last thought occurred to him and he pointed to a few lockers near the entrance to the lab/hangar. Part of Prime's insistence for proper OH&S meant that all sorts of safety equipment was stored there for human use. "You should probably grab some gear. I hear hazard yellow is quite fashionable."
