Week 3, Day 2.
The food court of Jasper's local mall was busy at lunchtime.
Warm scents drifted through the air. There was the smell of peapods and soy sauce, of burgers with their warm coatings of cheese; every once in a while there was the whiff of fresh baked chocolate chip cookies and the most evil of mall creatures-
Cinnamon pull apart buns. More calories than rightly belonged in an adorable pink and white paper bag. They were the sort of delicious things that sat in your stomach like a brick and you regretted every sticky bite.
Tables of teenagers parked themselves over slices of pizza and huge sodas, laughing and talking and showing each other their cell phones every few minutes. Not to mention texting the person right across the table as if they were far, far away. There were other people too; harried mothers offering french fries to their five year old while the older child nagged about the play structures right outside the court. A young business suited pair sneaking over from the nearby offices to grab a sandwich. Several grey-haired older women also sharing their fancy phones and giggling as much as the teenagers.
It was a typical small town American mall. It had a Sears. It had a JC Penny's. Up and down the wide halls it had over thirty small stores selling everything from comic books to rather eye-striking negligee that covered just what it needed to.
Sitting in one of those hard plastic bright red mall chairs with an Orange Julius in front of him was someone who was utterly fascinated with all of it. He was also a hologram. As usual, it was of a broad shouldered, well-toned tall man wearing a grey t-shirt and jeans, along with scuffed cowboy boots. Top that with bright blue eyes, blond hair, and a easy, friendly smile, and no one at all was aware he was only a solid projection of light being relayed by an alien robot.
Who was right now transformed into a silver Nissan tucked next to the other cars in the parking lot.
They weren't allowed out without another Autobot right now. Keep things safe. Luckily for Bluestreak, he'd managed to get Bulkhead to go out with him. They'd have to leave as soon as it came time to pick up Miko from school, but at least they could combine this lunch break and meet Nell...
Because honestly, uh, he needed to meet her. For reasons that only a human would get. The adult sort of human. Miko was pretty awesome, but he wasn't about to ask her the questions that had been turning over in the back of his mind for the last few weeks...
Bluestreak turned his cup with his fingers again, wiggled the straw in the thick liquid. It squeaked.
"I'm still figuring out why you drink this," he grinned. "I mean, I love the color. Great color. Would be fantastic on a wall or something - er, not thrown on there, I mean like a paint color, haha, but..."
"I know, I'm rambling," he admitted sheepishly. "Thanks for coming out here to talk it was the only place I could think of that we could meet and I could ask some stuff- and uh, I kinda wanted to see the mall. The kids say it's really the place to be. I can see why. All these things to buy, wow, and it's so bright and clean and nice."
"How've you been? You working with Ratchet a lot lately?"
