Name/Alias: Dreamu
Character Info
Name: Virtuoso
Age: Late 40’s
Gender: Mech
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: High Priest of Primus (Think Bishop)
Occupation/Specialization: Field Artillery (Soldier), Priest
Appearance:
Body- Standing roughly at the same height as Breakdown, Virtuoso is a sturdy and straight backed mech. His armour is of the extravagant type, sporting flat black and white paneling. He is adorned with golden accents and pale blue biolights. His pectoral plating is dark and pointed with space on the chest to display his golden Decepticon insignia. Cascading plates of gold edged biolights and white make up his shoulder armour. Hanging above Virtuoso’ hips and ending at his ankles, is an open front ‘skirt’ that alternates between his primary colours with the second to last panel being gold. The skirt can be adjusted so as to either close or open it, allowing for ease of access to stored weapons. His legs and forearms are streamlined and solid, not sharing the same aggressive angles as the formerly mentioned attachments.
Helm- Virti possesses a long rectangular face with defined facial planes. A set of black plating gives him a pointed and narrow nose, and serves as the first set of ‘cheek bones’. The cheek juts transition into upwards projections above the eyes. Under the secondary row of white cheek plating, is more black that gives an open helmet appearance. Mimicking the nose plate, is a narrow strip of black metal that hangs off the chin. He has golden brows set above pale blue optics, and a hollowed structure on the sides of his mouth that hold lighting of the same colour. Golden plates with the same blue lighting, make a split crest that adds further to his ornate appearance.
Vocals- Deep and level. Something that is almost calming to listen to. Some pronunciations have a gravelly draw to them. Has an ambiguous and slight accent.
Altmode:
Refusing to adopt an alien altmode, Virtuoso has kept his original form; that of a Cyberronian flier. It is shaped like that of an irregular tri-cornered star with a central point that is extended outwards and down. This outwards point is the nose of the craft and is where a majority of his biolight plating is focused. The nose is jagged with layered plates that transition to smooth and seamless planes the further back they go. A majority of the craft is black with a white panel on the wings’ outer edge and a curved golden panel that horizontally bisects the craft. Being he is not a passenger vehicle, there are no windows.
The underside of this craft is smooth until the assault cannon is in use. Plating moves so that the gun can descend. It is secured via a central point that swivels 360°, the chamber is triangular in shape and has biolights that are more concentrated towards the end.
While his alt can survive the perils of space, it's not meant to stay up there long term- that being multiple years. He can hop to planets in the same solar system, but needs assistance with anything beyond that. In regards to speed, he’s no seeker. Virti can give common military aircrafts a run for their money, but is usually on par with them.
Pertinent History:
Virtuoso was forged into the intellect class during the middle of the Golden era. He originally had his start in political philosophy, taking up occupancy in Praxus. This interest eventually soured as Cybertron progressed into the caste system. Even though Virti benefitted from this due to being in the upper caste, he didn’t agree with the inequality. He often spoke up against it, but never went far enough so as to be a threat to the system. To him, politicians were a heartless sort and impossible to get through to. Frustrated with the lot, he switched to religious studies in an attempt to simply ignore it all. It was not initially a decision made out of faith. Even as a nonbeliever Virtuoso was studious and eventually made his way up the ranks in the church, landing him his High Priest title. His forced ignorance of the rising societal unrests worked until it did not. His carefully maintained distance soon became detrimental. Being in a position of power worked to both force his hand and to further alienate him.
It left him lonely.
This distance is what finally pushed him towards some semblance of faith, mainly charity work. Despite what records and officials may say, he didn’t help those troubled by the caste system for publicity- he developed a genuine care for them. Through his work, he eventually became partnered to an unnamed, low-caste dissenter. They were lively and the light of Virtuoso’s life. They were the one that truly solidified his faith and belief in Primus. His reasoning being that the existence of someone so wonderful was proof that a higher power did care and that they deserved to be worshiped. It was through his partner that Virti learned of the growing Decepticon cause and eventually joined it (an odd thing given the fact that he was considered a Towerling). The Cons were what Virtuoso failed to do at the beginning of the era; they took action.
Early on in the war, Virtuoso lost his partner; another casualty among many. After their death, he devoted his entirety to the battle and faded into the ranks. Virti didn’t appear again until a few years after the Exodus event. He didn’t attend the initial migration on account of him hunting down enemy stragglers. It wasn’t until enemies were scarce, that he focused his efforts on rejoining the main force. Being that he is not tech savvy, it took some while until he could get off a collection signal.
When the space bridge eventually opened, an Autobot flier took off towards the portal with Virti in hot pursuit. The tenacity of his fight ended in a partial victory, the Bot was dead and he was damned. Virti had received grievous injuries in the battle and struggled to close the distance between Cybertron and the teleport. The passage was a rough one, rendering him unresponsive once finally through. The extent of his injuries required for him to be placed in stasis even after repairs. He went down with the Nemesis when it crashed into the ocean weeks later, sharing in its watery tomb and has since remained there.
That is until recently.
Personality:
Virtuoso, when boiled down to his base elements, is a bleeding heart that hides behind a curtain of cool reserve. Outwardly, he is of a self possessed nature- one that more often than not, comes across as pomposity. He is the sort to maintain a professionality to a frustrating extent, not rising or lashing out at perceived character jabs. To stoop at personal insults is ‘beneath’ him (or so he says).
As a priest, faith is important to Virtuoso. He holds a great respect for Primus, and an even greater respect for others’ beliefs. While not staunch in his convictions, Virti likes to gently remind others that ‘Primus embraces all’ and other little rhetorics. He has a strong belief in practicing what he preaches, meaning he won’t tell a fellow soldier to ‘stay strong’ if he himself is not.
Unfortunately with his faith, comes a dose of xenophobia. He carries resentment for anything or anyone not Cybertronian- if it’s not Primus created, it’s no friend of his. Those that possess alien alts are seemingly an affront to Virtuoso. This is perhaps the one thing that he will outwardly disagree with.
Drawing back to what was stated earlier, Virti is compassionate to a fault- an empath if you will. He is the type that genuinely cares for those he works around. It is this great care that runs the mech ragged and forces him to maintain a steely mask. If one were to somehow get past this blockade, they would get to know a warmth that could almost be considered divine.
Likes: Meaningful conversations, comradery, keeping busy, promises fulfilled, sincerity, challenge, religious texts, Primus, meditation, any sort of weapons- specifically his sword.
Dislikes: Humans, anything human made, inaction, hypocrites, aimless ideas, oppression, isolation.
Weapons:
Scatter Shot- A personal favourite of his, this weapon can be likened to that of a shotgun. It fires bursts of hard light pellets that is most effective at close range. He can get 6 shots off in close succession before the gun overheats. The source of the ammunition is slivers of processed energon that requires reloading after 12 shots. This weapon will do a number on both medium and light armours, often breaching the plating and causing damage to once protected structures. In regards to heavy armour, it will damage but unless the barrel is within reaching distance it will not harm anything serious.
Assault Cannon- This weapon is only accessible in his altmode, and is the only gun he has that can fair well past mid range. Used in aerial battles, it fires a spray of hard light bullets that are capable of piercing through heavy armour. It is a messy and inaccurate weapon that requires a steady flight path to be effective. This cannon is integrated into his build and draws power from Virtuoso. It will overheat within a couple minutes of continuous fire and will require a cool down period of twice that.
Shortsword- Ornamental and elegant, the only weapon that matches Virti’s appearance. The blade is heavy and looks like that of a scimitar. At the end of the handle is a worn tassel (a memento from someone long lost). Useless against heavy armour, effective against light, and has varying degrees of success against medium. As for his skill with this weapon, he is no specialist but can still hold his ground.
Strengths:
Papa’s Packing- Virtuoso was over eager when it came to joining the war. As a result, he is practiced in a wide array of projectile weaponry. With his training, Virti can pick up and use most close to medium range weapons. Being versatile in what he can use does not equate to how well he can use said weapon. Wellness being in reference to how precise he can get (the dude’s accuracy rating is embarrassing).
Extravagant- With such a fancy appearance comes an excess of armour plating. It is classified as medium-heavy armour. The heavy armour is located in places with layering plates such as the shoulders and skirt. Where there is not layering, there is medium strength armour.
Fiendish- For a priest, his fervour exists in an odd place. When in combat Virtuoso brings an unwavering intensity to battle. This focus can result in heavier hits and tactic changes on the fly. Unfortunately this can lead to recklessness as he will get too caught up in the fight and will not disengage until he is either victorious or too injured to continue.
Hardy- Virtuoso is space flight capable, meaning the extremes of the great expanse are not as troubling. Without assistance, he can leave and enter planetary atmospheres.
Weaknesses:
Beacon- With such flashy armour and exuberant bio lights, Virtuoso is a hard target to miss. Even with dimming, he is not someone you want to send on stealth missions. It also doesn’t help that he enjoys being loud when tasked with combat, ‘to make it more fair for the other in Primus’ eyes’.
Staunch- Complicated appearances often result in mobility limitations. With all the plating on his arms, range of movement is poor. Virti is unable to reach anywhere above chin level due to his shoulders getting in the way. This results in a range of attack that is very much forward and centred. His metal skirt offers no advantage to movement. It gets caught or in the way, making it difficult to complete any actions aside from static things such walking, running, and sometimes jumping.
Disastrous- Hyper aggression and a singular focus? It’s a bad combo. It got Virti’s partner killed, and it nearly killed him too. He’s reckless and goes to extremes so as to come out victorious. This blinds him and has resulted in friendly fire on several occasions. To try and deter him from combat, or to even get his attention can result in brutality to some degree.
Stubborn- Virti is rather stuck in his ways. If something is proven to work he’ll stand by it, and if it doesn’t, it’s bad. This can lead to issues when it comes to following orders as it may result in arguments.
Widower- The loss of Vitriouso’s late partner has had lasting effects on the mech. Their memory haunts him in a way, influencing many of his choices and actions. Touching on the subject of them is bound to illicit some form of negativity, whether it be anger or even a deterrent. Due to the sensitivity of this subject he tends to be tight lipped about it. However if one were to mention something along the topic of partners or companions, it’s certainly enough to cause pause or even disarm him.
Bull through China- Precision in combat is not something Virtuoso possesses, hence why his skills in accurate weapons is nonexistent. This forces him to be close to other combatants, and to adopt a ‘spray and pray’ style.
Unidentifiable- Given that he refuses to take on an Earth based alt form, Virti can’t operate in heavily populated areas. Joy rides are more often than not, out of the question. Unless directly bridged to a location or in a mission where discretion is not necessary, he's bound to the base.
Special Skills:
Sensitive- Virtuoso’s compassion stems from the fact that he’s overly sensitive to other’s electromagnetic fields. He is not consciously aware of this ability; just that he tends to be impacted by the ‘mood of the room’ more heavily than his compatriots. He is perpetually under the belief that he feels emotion like the others around him, and is just not the best at coping with it. Due to Virti being unaware, this a detrimental quality that will never see the light of improvement or weaponization. In short, he thinks he's a pansy and tries to overcompensate for it.
