CHARACTER INFO
Name: Barricade
Age: Early 30s
Gender: Mech
Species: Cybertronian
Faction: Decepticon
Original Occupation: Police Officer, captain of Kaon Rapid Enforcement Team 217
Occupation/Specialization: Shock Trooper captain during the war, currently Ground Soldier
Appearance: Barricade is slightly shorter than Breakdown and shares a similar shade of blue. He includes sharp white accents on his upper arms and chest, plus muted gold detailing on his face and hands to contrast the dark blue.
The top of Barricade's helm protrudes out over his optics, forming a cap of sorts. A retractable crimson visor further protects his optics from harsh light. Thick vented cheek guards protect the sides of his face. His gold faceplate is smoothed out, devoid of any detailing. His neck, however, does include some exposed metallic "muscles", tubes that stretch as he moves. To somewhat shield his vulnerable neck, a thick collar rises from his chest.
Many armor plates make up Barricade's wide upper torso. A large portion of his vehicle mode hood creates the middle of his chest plate, flanked by the vertical sections of his grille guard. His headlights sink into his chest plates, fully functional in robot mode. On Barricade's abdomen, interlocking metal strips allow him to flex his torso. Light armor covers the front and back of this area, while the sides are left armorless.
Barricade's bulky arms are protected by his four vehicle mode doors. His front tires top his shoulders, and his rear tires form the lower halves of his forearms. His hands connect to his wrists via square holes in said tires, and his shiny knuckle dusters are always equipped. He displays Decepticon insignias on his shoulders.
Part of Barricade's light bar hides inside his hip assembly, and he can use them in robot mode like his headlights. Armor segments connect to form his hips, similar to his chest. Barricade's thighs are slightly thinner than his lower legs, which are also covered in armor. His pedes consist of three “pods” at the front and sides of both legs. They seem to be built right into his legs, but move independently like regular feet.
Altmode: Dodge Charger SRT Hellcat Police Car (The black on the car in this picture should be dark blue.)
Pertinent History: Barricade’s predetermined path in life set him up as a member of the Enforcer Caste. While many suffered under the restrictions of the draconian caste system, he excelled as a new police officer in Kaon. His post was not an easy one, as Kaonian law enforcement suffered high mortality rates in the dangerous streets. If you wore a badge, chances were you also had a price on your head. On top of that, the Kaonian government treated its officers as expendable tools just like the rest of the population, so they never got the equipment needed to protect themselves. Some of Barricade’s worst memories are not from the war, but rather deep in the mines, cleaning up the aftermath of altercations turned brutal melees.
Eventually, Barricade's superiors put him in charge of an elite Rapid Enforcement Team. As the head of the newly formed Unit 217, he busted suspected criminal gatherings (really just political opponents of the establishment) and shut down anti-caste system protests. Despite the access to better equipment and a gunship, the situation only got worse as time went on. He'd make friends, maybe entertain budding romances, only to see their lives ripped away. Barricade soon grew weary of this meaningless cycle.
When Megatron declared war against the High Council of Iacon, chaos broke out in the city of gladiators. 217 were assigned to guard the Kaonian cabinet in the tower district of Kolkular. Decepticon fighters had overrun most of Kaon, and a safe room at the top floor of the megacomplex served as the last line of defense for the old government. Barricade knew that no one would be coming to bail them out, and he resented protecting the beings that did nothing to help their city. In that moment, he made a decision that would change the course of his life forever.
He declared his former leaders guilty of treason against the people of Kaon.
The sentence?
Immediate execution.
When the Decepticon forces finally reached the top, they found open doors to the safe room, and five mutilated husks courtesy of Barricade's swift betrayal. On that day, he and his team swore allegiance to the Decepticons.
The Decepticon military folded 217 into a shock trooper division, forming the tip of the spear for Megatron’s onslaught across Cybertron. From cleaning up strongholds of resistance on Kaon to mowing down Autobot lines at Tesaurus, Barricade always found himself in the middle of the action. ever having to hold back, he released all of his built-up anger at whoever found themselves in front of his weapons. He finally felt that he could deliver true justice.
During the Battle of Tyger Pax, Barricade and another soldier were briefly assigned to a guard post on the outskirts of the city. The two Decepticons noticed a small Autobot scout skimming the perimeter. Under the sounds of blaster fire, they easily intercepted the yellow Autobot, but they didn’t expect him to put up one hell of a fight. Barricade intuitively picked up that this young bot knew something important, so he readied his stunner and shoved it into his foe’s faceplate. As the Autobot fell, a stray shot from his blaster struck Barricade in the helm, blowing out his brain module.
Against all odds, Barricade survived a point-blank blast to the helm. He was nursed back to fighting shape, and continued to serve as a regular trooper. When the war on Cybertron neared its end, command reassigned Barricade’s division as security for the Nemesis’ takeoff. While the battleship pursued the Ark, Barricade flew one of the last space worthy fighters to tear through Autobot air defenses. Planning to regroup with the Nemesis as it entered the space bridge, Barricade’s ship was severely damaged before he could do so, wounding him yet again and sending him drifting through space.
However, he refused to give up on the cause, no matter how much that cause razed Cybertron. Touching down upon a Decepticon moon outpost out of sheer luck, Barricade found himself low on Energon. The outpost had been raided long ago; there were no spare parts and insufficient fuel for the craft and its pilot. The only thing of use left was a space bridge, destination-locked to a small planet orbiting a yellow dwarf star. He figured whoever manned this station left for this planet. Without any other options, Barricade stepped through the space bridge.
Arriving on the planet Earth, Barricade knew he couldn’t survive for long on his low energy reserves and temporary breach patches. He set up a Decepticon-coded distress signal, and the Nemesis soon rescued him. Spending the next three and a half months in its medbay, he missed out on quite a bit of events (including the Nemesis crashing into the ocean) while he recovered.
Personality: Hard-helmed, fearless, and most of all resilient, Barricade is the epitome of the Decepticon warrior at first glance. He expects the best out of himself and every Decepticon around him, and his capacity for ruthlessness extends to those he deems failures. He justifies his every action with his adherence to the original principles of the Decepticons, “Deceiving those who would deceive us.” Barricade sees himself as one of the many who had been deceived by his former masters, and finds a particular, twisted zeal in carrying out his orders. Each Autobot he kills is nothing more than a criminal and a traitor.
At least, that’s what he’d like to think. Barricade does have a few doubts about what the Decepticons truly are. While he truly believes that they are justified in their war against the Autobots, he does feel somewhat disturbed about how they wage it. However, he isn’t one to ask questions as he feels no need to do so, much unlike his stint as a police officer. What happened during the war already happened. Death was just another cost of freedom, a cost Barricade is willing to pay.
Barricade’s true loyalties do not lie with the Decepticon leader. Instead, he puts his trust into the Decepticon soldiers who he serves alongside. He knows his loyalty is misplaced, but it has always been easier for him to respect those who actively fight on the front lines rather than those who command from the rear. Combined with his growing misgivings over the Decepticon cause, perhaps these facets of his character show that Barricade isn’t the perfect warrior after all.
Likes: Cleanliness, Driving, Femmes With Aerial Frames, Human Police Procedurals (aka comedy), Orderliness
Dislikes: Forgetfulness, Slobs, Snobs, Traitors, “The Yellow One”
Strengths/Weapons:
To Punish - A wartime addition to his arsenal, Barricade wields built-in knuckle dusters to supplement his fine-tuned hand-to-hand combat skills. They enhance his striking power through small pneumatic mechanisms, allowing him to batter lightly armored foes or put a few good dents into medium armored ones. He may not hit fast, but he hits hard.
And Enslave - The palm plates of Barricade's servos are able to build up a vicious electric charge, characterized by an ominous tic-tic-tic staccato that gradually speeds up. At full charge, Barricade simply needs to touch a target in a lightly armored area with his palm to immobilize them to some degree. On smaller targets, the charge is enough to send them into stasis lock. On targets Barricade’s size and larger, it won’t knock them out, but it can still slow down and disorient them. As long as he maintains contact with his palm the charge will hold, but the target can slowly recover if his palm is removed. And yes, it hurts.
Service Weapon - Barricade’s sole ranged armament is his police-issued energon blaster, which he must transform one of his forearms into. He had some unauthorized modifications done to penetrate the heavy grade armor of miners, whom he frequently fought as a Kaon police officer. The high-powered weapon can shred through heavy plating with ease. Unfortunately, it is locked to a six shot limit between recharges.
Riot Gear - Barricade has medium armor on his upper torso, shoulders, forearms, and lower legs. Lighter protection covers his upper arms, thighs, and lower torso. His heavier armor shields him from conventional blaster fire and normal-sized melee weapons, but leaves him free enough to move around on the battlefield.
Pursuit Authorized - Barricade’s robot mode speed is nothing to brag about, but his vehicle mode is capable of going from zero to sixty miles per hour in four seconds flat. He'll hunt you down whether you're on foot or on wheels.
Weaknesses:
Weak Spots - While his armor does a good job protecting what it covers, Barricade's joints are greatly exposed. Two or three well-placed strikes can dismember him, taking him out of the fight.
Say Again? - Barricade suffers short-term memory loss from a blaster shot to the helm. The damage would have been easily reversible if medical aid was administered earlier, but unfortunately for him he was patched up too late. As such, he is prone to forgetting mission objectives and daily assignments. If he really needs to remember something, he must vocally repeat it to himself. This habit tends to annoy others a lot.
My Optics! - Also as a result of the near-fatal injury, Barricade’s optics are sensitive to light. He must wear a protective visor when outdoors. Crafty opponents may aim for his visor to disorient him. Alternatively, bright lights such as flashbangs and even high beam headlights can blind and stop him.
Not The Face! - Barricade is quite protective of his helm for reasons you can probably guess. When losing a melee fight, he tends to cover his helm, which leaves other vital areas unprotected.
I'll Get You, When I Get There - Barricade has little in the way of ranged options. His blaster is powerful, but that power comes at the cost of greatly reduced range and a six shot limit before recharging. Additionally, he cannot dual wield as it will put a massive drain on his energy reserves.
Unrealistic Standards - Barricade expects absolute perfection out of himself and his subordinates, should they ever be unfortunate enough to be assigned under him. If he makes one mistake during combat, expect to find him punching training dummies until his servos leak Energon. If someone under him makes a mistake, well, expect them to report to the medbay. As a Kaonian police officer one wrong move could have deadly repercussions, which is where his perfectionism stems from. Add that to the fact he can’t remember as well as he used to, so he tries to make up for it in different ways.
The Yellow One Is Mine! - Many Autobots have shot, sliced, and otherwise mangled Barricade, but the one soldier that infuriates him the most is Bumblebee—known to the Decepticon as “The Yellow One”. If he ever crosses paths with the scout again, he’ll uncharacteristically drop the mission just for a chance to get back at the Autobot who scrambled his head.
Special Skills:
When Cops Fly - Barricade has experience piloting Cybertronian flying craft. He’s not the best by any standard, but he can get the job done.
Extra Info:
- He tried partnering with a Mini-Con once. It was one frenzy of an experience, and he hated it.
- Barricade almost never removes his visor, even when it is safe for him to do so.
- In a perfect world, Barricade would be voiced by Keith David.
